Bring Back Rocket Race!!!

He never had much creditability in the first place, and he lost it back in The Maw forum, where he made dumb posts about Halo 3 PC and he knew nothing about what he was talking about.

Yea, i believe that

You know, I never wanted to continue this argument. I wanted to end it several posts ago. You're the one that wanted to continue this. I wanted to end this with the agreement that all the Halo games are awesome and beat the Gears of War series. If you agree to that now in all the threads we've argued in, then I will cease posting in this forum and we can be rid of this argument forever.

  • 10.18.2009 7:09 PM PDT

General you don't need to start this here. You knew coming into this forum and this thread that most opinions were going to be very pro Halo:CE. I hope you did anyway. You stated your opinion and there was nothing wrong with that but once you started trying to force others into believing it that's where you crossed the line and were begging to be flamed. With that said I realize some posters provoked you into it as well but you should of just took the high road and ignored them.

Personally Halo:CE will always be my favorite. Some of it is just the good old days memories but honestly most of it is just me prefering the gameplay/weapon balance over H2/H3's. The skill gap for Halo:CE was immense, less reliance on teamwork was needed which allowed more individual skill to shine through. The pistol was the best starting weapon to date.(Yes I know default slayer starts varied from map to map but I'm talking Slayer Pro starts or just custom built games)

Most the maps were well made allowing for multiple ways to play and were memorable. Frag grenades just felt right throwing wise and went off/did damage equal to what I would actually expect them to. Fall damage was another thing that actually added to the competitiveness. If you had to risk it you could still save yourself by crouching but fall damage really made height feel like it actually mean't something.

I feel Halo:CE>Halo3>Halo 2 but that's just my opinion. They all have there strengths and weaknesses though. Don't get the wrong impression either I like H2 a ton but for a long time before the updates to it I didn't have much fun with it. Plus it was so different from CE that it took me a while to adjust.

Bring Back Rocket Race!!!

Well, I decided to a little experiment. I start a similar thread in the Halo 3 forums. To no surprise, Halo 3 was voted better than Halo 1. It wasn't exactly a landslide though but Halo 3 still beat Halo 1.

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=38154503

Now, I don't wish to continue this argument any further. I have my opinion, you have yours. This is probably the last thing I will contribute to my arguments unless I am forced to continue arguing even more.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Untill you notice that it is almost a tie, the fanboys skewed it. With posts like OMG GFX AND FORGE while custom maps are better than any forge variant.

Yeah well, it's just an experiment. Besides, I'm sure there are a few people in these forums that never played Halo 3 before either. Some of them may not even have an Xbox 360. I've noticed that on a few people. Point is, both forums are filled with fanboys on each side.

There's no point in continuing this argument any further for many reasons.

Wow, some of the comments in this thread are laughable at best. Until you've played 2v2 team slayer on Halo 1 and have mastered nade points, map control and spawn traps, as well as gained a level 50 general status in halo 3, your logic as to which game is better from a competitive standpoint is flawed. From a competitive standpoint, Halo CE on Xbox LAN is HANDS DOWN far more superior to that of Halo 3 when looking at it from a perspective of individual contribution. With that said, let's analyze one of the more intelligent posts within this thread.

Weapons are inconsistent in Halo 3.
They are consistent, but the hit boxes are so much bigger than that of halo 1 that it makes it easier to get a kill.

Weapons are consistent in Halo 1.
Very true. There is only 1 shooting glitch in the game and that is when jumping and turning with the rocket in the air.

Control physics are choppy in Halo 3. Control physics are smooth in Halo 1.
Halo 3 has physics? The physics are so inferior to that of halo 1, that throwing a nade by a weapon has no effect of blowing it to a different location! Part of what made halo so great is the ability to blow power ups and weapons to different locations of the map as part of the game strategy.

Gameplay is slow paced in Halo 3. Gameplay is fast paced in Halo 1. Not true. A game of 2v2 TS in halo 1 lasts about the same as 2v2 in halo 3. Same with 4v4 TS.

Shots don't register in Halo 3. Shots register in Halo 1. Not true. In lan, both games register shots and there is a fair amount of skill in using the BR just as there is the pistol in halo 1.

There is a larger skill gap in Halo 1. There is a small skill gap in Halo 3.
Very true. If you take a two players that have been playing halo 1 for a year, and 2 players that have been playing halo 3 for a year, as a noob team playing either game for the first time, you are going to get more kills against the good players in halo 3 then you will in halo 1. In halo 3, the noobs will get 10-15 kills, but in halo 1 they will be lucky to get 2-5 kills.

There is greater weapon balance in Halo 1. There is terrible weapon balance in Halo 3.
Halo 1 is not a game of weapon balance. It is a game of power up control, map control, and predicting kills off the spawn. It is a superior game which doesn't require the need for weapon balance. Depending on the location of the map, the sniper, rocket, and pistol can all be equally powerful in halo 1.

The health system in Halo 1 worked well with the game. The health system in Halo 3 further slows down the pace of the game. Both health systems work well for each specific game. Halo 3 is a much more team oriented game, where the chance of surviving a 2 on 1 is very slim. In halo 1, you can rocket one guy, quickly switch weapons, and three shot kill the other guy with the pistol, or switch to the sniper and gain a single kill. I have survived far more 2 on 1's in halo CE than I ever have in Halo 3. This is true for all skill levels.

Melees require much more skill to effectivley use in Halo 1. In Halo 3, you can just lunge. Very true.

Taking both games into account, Halo CE is a far more enjoyable game from a competitive stand point. If you are a competitive player, you will enjoy Halo CE much more than Halo 3.

@ war_god,

I agree with what you said save one thing, your point on weapon balance. CE's weapon set held much more balance then that of Halo 2 or 3. The weapons in CE had their roles, and performed well in them, nothing really overshadowed the set. Halo 2 and 3 were played primarily from the BR users perspective (on a competitive level). That weapon is so poorly balanced it's not even funny.

  • 10.19.2009 3:31 PM PDT

If your talking about the BR's relation to the rest of the weapons, then I agree. In CE, your going to have the pistol in your hand almost the whole game on hh and priz unless your camo/rocks, then your going to have AR/Rocks so that you can quick camo after the launch. On dammy, the pistol and AR are not used as much as Rocks/snipe/Shotgun. Chillout is a toss up between the 4, with the occational PR being used. What makes the weapons balanced in H1 is not the weapons themselves, but the relation of the weapons to the power ups and the map being played.

That is afterall the very definition of balance, and that is where the sequals have failed, with the BR being the biggest culprit IMO.

yh? i typed that myself. i'm very proud of it.

Yes.

the Assault Rifle was better in this game. (it sounded like a machine gun, unlike in Halo 3, and had more ammo)

the story was compelling (although a little unoriginal to start with).

it was one of the best looking games when it came out, personally i absolutely loved the grass in halo 1, it deems so realistic. (other than it was flat)

it introduced the flood in a creepy yet effective way.

and the enemy's were fun to watch. (oh...and kill), for example the way the grunts ran away screaming when the elite was dead, which reminds me, what is that thing the elites do when u break their shield? its like their having a tantrum in the middle of a fight, lol.

anyway, this was the better game, i'm not saying the others were not just as fun, because they too were great, but personally, whenever someone says "Halo", i will always think back to charging up the beach on the cartographer level.

Well there's a difference between a machine gun and an assault rifle. I know this is a small issue, but just to clarify, Assault Rifle's are not supposed to sound like machine guns. That's why they're called Assault Rifles and not machine guns. In fact, most machine guns in all the Halo games don't sound like actual machine guns. The detachable turret in Halo 3 sounds closer to a real machine gun but if you compare it to Call of Duty 4, then you'll see the difference. Oh and grunts always run away in every game when you kill their leaders. It's not a Halo 1 thing. Same with the elites. When you knock down their shields in Halo 2, they'll go crazy and pull out a sword and start slashing you. In Halo 3, it'll be the brutes that go crazy.

As for the flood, I guess they were pretty interesting in Halo 1. But Halo 3 did the best in terms of the flood. You can actually see the flood infect a living person while they are still alive. Basically those little flood infection forms jump onto one of your allies or enemies and turns them right away into a flood. They can also infect dead bodies into flood. It's sometimes creepy watching someone get infected by the flood while they're still alive in Halo 3.

According to critics, each Halo game was best looking when they came out. Even Bungie thinks that Halo 2 is the best looking game on the original xbox. Halo 3 wasn't that bad either. And the grass isn't flat in Halo 3. The water effects are very nice in Halo 3 as well. But seriously, who actually stops in the middle of a game to look at the grass or the water?

When someone says "Halo" I always think of the final part in Halo 3 when Master Chief is trying to escape from The Ark before the Halo Ring destroys it. I also think about the Double Scarab Battle in Halo 3. It was pretty epic. The memorial service for Master Chief at the end was pretty emotional as well. And the legendary ending where Master Chief actually survived get's people excited for the possibility of another sequel to Halo 3 even though it's unlikely.

Now of course pretty much everything else is debatable which is what the last 5 pages in this thread were spent on. I don't really want to start this whole argument again so I'll just leave it at this.

Your mother jokes. Yeah-yuh.

The scarabs are nub scarabs in H3 from what I understand. Just going to say that.

And I do think Halo:Combat Evolved was the best, although I'm kind of tied since I never played a lot of 2 since I don't own it.

BLEEDING QUOTES BLAH BLAH BLAH NEVER WORK ANYMORE. oricuddothislolimsospecallololbruberleethaxorz

I don't think the others are bad but the original was good.

Halo 3 Limited Edition. Halo 3 ODST: Limited Edition Controller. Close to 1,500 games in Halo 3.

This is likely a common occurrence here, minus the special editions of the games. Do not create random delusions and try to spread them around in here. This forum is virtually entirely comprised of people who have played the living hell out of both games. The majority of people who have played both agree that Halo: CE has a better experience.

Halo: Combat Evolved revolutionized how FPS are played on consoles. They found the layout that works and have only progressed further with it with the sequels (though some of you would debate me on that point).

The first installment is what laid the foundation, but I can't pick a solid "best" because they all offer something different from each other. It's a wishy-washy answer, I know, but it is what it is.

Couldn't agree more.

  • 11.05.2009 12:45 AM PDT

Halo ce all the way, still the best campaign of the franchise. In halo 2, bungie just f*ed it all up. I mean no wortwortwort? cmon! If they let you play as the arbiter (which i found quite interesting), they should v normally let you fight humans instead of other stupid aliens, that was so lame. Halo 3 was just like halo 2 but had a tiny bit more of a halo ce feel to it. But the replacement of the elites by the boring brutes was epic fail! Best Multiplayer well? thats halo ce for PC. Kind of irritated me after a while to pay extra for halo 3's multiplayer, doesnt make any sense.
What about halo3:odst? is that worth it? Im hesitating to buy it. Fighting ugly apes all the time was so lame in halo 3, really miss the elites, they better have those in halo:reach !!

Oh and i couldnt agree more with up2down. Enemies in halo ce were fun to watch. (oh...and kill), for example the way the grunts ran away screaming when the elite was dead, the way they wisper "here he comes" when you r close by, the epic "wortwortwort" and the thing the elites do when u break their shield... god, now thats a halo game !

Halo 1>Halo 2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>Halo 3

Want to hear a funny joke? Marijuana prohibition.

War God-
Weapons are VERY inconsistent in Halo 3, espically the BR. Mainly due to a random bullet spread, but shots definitley do not register in this game. Bungie meant to design the game this way to further appeal to the gimmick crowd, thus raising sales. You know that when you see shots not registering on LAN, it's not just the game's fault.

These inconsistencies and having weapons not working makes the game much more slow paced than it's older brother. Tie that in with horrible control physics, and Halo 3 is nothing short of terrible when compared to Halo 1.
