Absolutely. Best campaign, and nothing can touch CTF at Blood Gulch.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

Best campaign.

Best scenery.

Amazing Multiplayer.

It was definitely the best Halo, though Halo 2 does come close.

No. It was the second best, because "from the beginning, you know the end,". Reach is the best, and to clarify;

1.Halo:Reach

2.Halo

3.Halo:Recon(Don't even think of correcting me!)

4.Halo 2, solely because of the Arbiter levels.

5.Halo 3, solely because of the absence of Arbiter levels.

And, barely fit to be called a Halo game,
6.Halo Wars

I find so many problems with this, no offence and I'm not trying to start a flame war but...
Reach is NOT better than CE, name the reason how is that even remotely possible?
I found Halo CE to be enchanting, addictive, probably the best FPS shooter campaign ever, one I would actually play possibly more than multiplayer, some weapons were overpowered, but actually felt like weapons instead "Nerfed-up water guns"
Sure CE doesn't have the online Reach does, or the Forge, or even Firefight, but I... many still find it better.
While Reach was really a not so huge step up from 3.
But my list is like this
1. Halo: Combat Evolved
2. Halo Reach [Great, not a huge step up from 3, screwed up some history though, maps weren't as good as 3's, except Forge World]
3. Halo 2 [GREAT game, but Campaign needed a little more work]
4. Halo 3: ODST [GREAT game, but felt a lot like 3 all over again]
5. Halo 3 [Great game, but Campaign and Forge needed much more work]

I do not put Halo Wars in this because, it's a good game
but is not made by Bungie I think... so therefore not really a Halo. Plus it's not FP.
As I said before, I am not trying to start a flame war or insult you, I am just stating my opinion.

It was mysterious and original in its day (and even now)...and it had the Halo 1 pistol!

Does anyone even look at B.net sigs?

It is one of the best games I've played, and better than both H2 and Reach. But Halo 3 was the pinnacle for me.

No, Reach is best

It has the most entertaining campaign of them all.

It's my personal favorite. The sequels improved upon a lot of things, but at its heart, CE is the purest example of the Halo formula.

I voted yes. Although, Reach's gameplay is as good, IMO. I might have said that Reach is better, had it not been for fail dialog and a fairly weak story, whereas CE's story sticks with me to this day.

Dont be shy...
Im sorry for my coup changes but Im new at this.

Yes but the first game is always the best.

Agree

Halo CE was the best even better than Reach because of and mainly because of the AR. The AR in Halo CE is more powerful and holds more ammo than the AR in Halo 3 Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach.

Yeah, we're all allowed an opinion and everything... but seriously, because the AR had a larger clip size? Plus it was beaten at every range by the Pistol easily anyway.

HALO CE is by far the best out of all the other halos, the campaign was epic and kept you wanting to play more, i know that halo 1 was not on xbox live but you could still play it online using gamespy or xbconnect, if most of you people experienced its online play through the xbox and not PC i'm sure you would vote it as the best halo multiplayer experience as well, the levels were all very unique and different from one another and actually felt like you were playing on a foreign alien world, they were also so different from one to the next and didn't need added cover like they do in the newer halo games, they were simple but it worked out great, i mean comon blood glutch, hang em high, chill out, damnation, battle creek, derelict, prisoner, rat race, sidewinder, you don't get better multiplayer maps than that, they also all had a very clean feeling to them too, i find they add to much cover in the newer games that promote camping, with CE it was either kill or be killed within seconds of your re spawn not to mention all the guns were so strong and more realistic, and unique the plasma rifle stunned, the rocket luanhcer flew through the air very fast and tremendous splash damage, the shotgun had amazing power and range(now its treated like a power weapon one or two on the map and doesnt respawn til its dropped..), even the assault rifle was a beast with you being able to kill someone with 6 shots from it and a running melee, he threw grenades like a beast from one side of the map to the other, and every time you got into a pistol battle with someone it was always very intense right til the end, and no it was over powered it was bang on, that made the gameplay as fast as it was, and everyone had one so the true skilled person would usually win,i hate people who say 3 shot kills were easy they were very hard to do considering you had to lead your shot, unlike in halo 2 with the auto aim so strong, its practically impossible to not get a 4 shot kill with the BR

for the remake i hope they don't change a thing besides adding 4 player co-op campaign, theater, forge and firefight, and of course matchmaking or at elast online multiplayer through XBL

Who is John Galt?

my list is:

1) CE
2) Reach
3) Wars, tie with Halo 2
4) Halo 3

I didn't play ODST, so I can't judge it.

Ce has the classic gameplay down to a t, it invented what halo means. Reach recaptures that, imo, while adding whole new exciting elements. Wars gave that awesome scale that the books always showed of seeing some big battles, I really like its multiplayer too. 2 and 3 had their moments, but they changed the gameplay from CE a lot. 2 really doesn't have much wrong with it, its still an amazing game, but the pistol was just boring compared to the old one, its story was great though (guess who my favorite new character was). 3 just felt like a rehash of 2, and that gameplay model felt old by 2007, and not classic, there were no elites, the brutes were boring, and CoD 4 coming out at the same time blew it out of the water in the multiplayer department for me. I didn't pick up on ODST, the price wasn't worth it.

There's just so much attention to detail in that game. Despite the oldergen graphics, Halo CE gives you the most immersive experience out of all the Halos.

All the weapons feel powerful and real, the vehicles feel spot on, melees feel realistic and right, even the ice on the ground makes you slide and slows your acceleration. Also, the marines make you feel like they're real and worth protecting. Maybe it's better AI, stronger weapons, etc, but they're definitely much more useful than in Halos 2-Reach.

Halo 1 feels totally complete. You can tell they didn't try to rush it out.

I don't understand why Bungie would stop working on Reach early when it was still so much worse than CE. The little things make a huge difference.

  • 02.21.2011 1:30 PM PDT

Yes! The storyline was by far the best of the Halos.
