Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

There seems to be a serious divide between two groups Halo fans.

On one side, there are fans that love the Halo trilogy's gameplay to the point that they only want minor changes and tweaks to the game they already love.

On the other side, there are the fans that love the Halo trilogy's gameplay, but feel that it is time for Bungie to make a brand new epic Halo game.

I find myself in the gourp of the ladder. While I love the Halo Trilogy, I am ready for a brand new experience in the Halo universe. Halo: Reach has the potential to be that great game. There is a certain ignorance with some Halo fans that will not allow them to see outside of the blinders that the Halo trilogy has put on them. I have a few buddies that bought xbox 360's solely for Halo 3 and never would have realized that other games could be great until I forced them to play them.

IMO, the Halo universe has too much to offer to continue to pump the same FPS out for 8+ years. I am ready for some radical change. I know that Reach is going to be a FPS, but there has been some great ideas expressed on the these forums that could take the Halo franchise in a new direction.

Who's ready for change!?

I'm neutral on the subject. If the game has classed based gameplay (like Team Fortress 2), I wouldn't mind. I won't care if the game sticks to the traditional Halo formula (though I personally would like to see gameplay similar to Halo 1 if it takes this path.)

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

I would either like the game to feel more like Halo 1, since the gameplay was broken in Halo 2 and 3. If it would feel more like Halo 2/3 gameplay, I would rather they ditch the current gameplay and go for something class-based (like Team Fortress 2) and large-scale (like Battlefield).

hmmmm sorta both not ready to change because anyone who wants change wants classes which is just stupid for the halo universe. I honestly don't know what to change.....

I agree with you on saying that I love the Halo Universe and it can be made into something really epic. So yes, change is nice as long as they keep it Halo.

One does not simply walk into Halo.

How are classes stupid for the Halo Universe? Are you basing it off of the fact that you prefer no classes, or are you stating this for gameplay reasons? You obviously can't tell how it will affect gameplay since no one has even played the multiplayer beta. What's stupid for the Halo Universe is to contradict the story that was already established, IMO.

lol you can't call it not stupid just because you haven't played it.(ex. explosives would be a class so how many noobs will be running around with snipers and rockets) maybe bungie has figured it out but i think i would enjoy the power weapon system better.

I would like to see something fresh to be honest. You can tweak the games forumula and still keep it Halo. The actual rift between fans are those that like Halo because it is a simplistic shooter and those that like Halo because they actually like Halo. The difference is quite obvious when you look at debates throughout the website.

Naturally those that like Halo cause it's a great, simple shooter, want things to stay as similar as possible while still feeling "new". The actualy "Halo" fans want to see the universe expanded on, and many feel it would be better served with a new take on gameplay.

While it is impossible to say what is right or wrong, it is worth mentioning that just doing the same old thing for a decade is a stupid way to do business. On the flip side you could argue that if it aint' broke (depends on one's point of view) don't fix it.

Personally I feel that there should be some change, I don't know if I would go to the extent of "class based" shooter, but there are definately better ways to tell a solid story than just continuing with the FPS as it has been for the last two titles.

I am.

If Halo: Reach is different, which I hope it is, these 'fan boys' will do the same thing that they do for everything:

Said by: Brian Griffin from Family Guy.

You'll do the same thing you always do; you'll just -blam!- and moan, beg for your apple juice, go poop and fall asleep.

I really hope they don't make the game class-based. Not because it's different from the trilogy., but because I've never played a good class-based game. star Wars:Battlefront was alright, CoD is annoying as hell (IMO) but the Halo system works fine. I do want something new, but still keeping with the general halo system and not class based.

Ok, that's your personal preference for Halo. There's nothing wrong with preferring that, but that doesn't dictate that Halo: Reach should retain the Quake- style gampelay from the first three. Bungie will make the decision for themselves, but as I already said, adding something that goes against Halo's story is stupid, such as bringing the Flood into a battle on Reach, since they were never part of that battle.

I like the idea of a new engine with major changes, but I don't want to see a class based Halo game. I honestly don't think that a class based Halo game would play out well and even if it did play well all of my games would be class based, thus my games would lack variety.

In all honesty I probably wouldn't buy a class based game, even if made by Bungie. I love them at first and get bored in two weeks. So seeing as it is a Bungie game I'll love it for a month. Why pay $60 dollars for that? I'd probably rent the game. I would buy a Halo game using a new concept, Halo 3.5 or a class based Halo with a Classic or Oldschool Mode.

w00t w00t

Check out my Gaming Rig on EVGA Mod Rigs.

I would like to see something to the effect of upgrades / skills to be expanded for any given character. Not quite RPG or MMO but maybe a stat system that allows you to progress and become more accurate with different weapons or unlock different weapons / armor / equipment as you achieve more in the game.

I'm not sure exactly how this turned into a class based MP discussion as this is only one idea of many great ones that could change Halo.

I am completely in agreement that the canon of the Halo story should be intact, but that doesn't mean that gameplay cannot change drastically and still keep the "Halo feeling".

I think the main problem is that people like simply peg titles on an idea and judge an entire idea based on some simple similarities. They say things like: "We don't want Halo:COD" or "RPG's aren't Halo" or "Go play Battlefield if you want that style"

If Halo does take some things from other games, that doesn't turn Halo into that game. I personally would like to see Bungie make something completely different that either combines the best things from several genres RPG, FPS, RTS, MMO, etc. or make something that completely redefines the FPS genre. I sure my eyes are bigger than my stomach, but one can dream, right?
