Ok, so here is a theory. I was reading a thread on how Master Chief would have to go thru time to get to the battle of Reach when I thought of this.
*Disclaimer*
I have not read any of the books, and all I really know is stuff from the games and what I have read here on the site, so feel free to punch as many holes in this as you can.
Everyone assumes that we are going back in time to play through the battle of reach that took place right before Halo: CE. I say Why? What prevents this from being after halo 3? It could be about re-taking reach, or running around on reach ODST style to find clues about the forerunners or whatever else they come up with.
Another point- The flood is pretty much done with, but who said the fight with the Covenant is over? The prophets from the games are dead, but if you remember in Halo 2 there were other prophet-species guys sitting around at the judgement of the arbiter. Plus, in the Halo Wars timeline there is mention of other prophets before Truth. Who's to say that another Prophet wasn't waiting for this to happen so they can take leadership of The Covenant? Reach could be about Humanity & the Elites (along with whoever else decides to join) embarking on a campaign against the remaining covenant, starting by taking back that historic place where it all began.
Now, I'm not saying I believe this, just that I thought about it and I want to see what you guys say. It would definately be a curveball for bungie to throw for Halo: Reach to not be about The Battle of Reach.
