Subject: Will Halo Reach have Classes

This is my signature nub.

I have heard a lot of talk about Halo Reach's Multiplayer having classes. Is this true or not?

  • 08.04.2009 8:54 PM PDT

No, some people want classes in Reach and make threads out of them instead of just posting in the original thread about it.

  • 08.04.2009 8:57 PM PDT

No one knows, but i doubt it

We don't know. Halo could stick with the same Quake formula we have had since the beginning, or Bungie could go for something class based like Team Fortress 2, possibly on a larger scale.

The figures in the banner seem to suggest class based gameplay (like how the Spartans of Blue Team all specialized in different things, maybe the Spartans of Red Team we play as in campaign will also have specialized roles... and that would most certainly carry over into MP, as Bungie likes to keep the gameplay between SP and MP identical.)

No, this will not happen despite the amount of people (mostly people who are somewhat new to the Halo series) who want it. Bungie cares too much about their long time Halo fans, thankfully.

The banner suggests that classes will be in this game, though... and I wouldn't put it past Bungie to do what they want, despite what some of their long-time fans want. Remember dual wielding?

Dual wielding had a huge effect on the way Halo was played, but at it's core it was pretty much the same.

Classes will never work, they will have to turn this into Call of Halo to make it work, which they won't do.

Signatures are for squares.

Don't counts on classes.

  • 08.04.2009 9:47 PM PDT

I think, by the picture at the top of the page, that there will be classes. The one to the far right obviously has some kind of heavy machine gun, middle BR, and the one on the far right has a sniper. I hope Bungie goes for a Star Wars Battle Front-esk game.

Pretty much this. I wouldn't care if it used the same formula, nor would I care if it had classes-based gameplay, like Team Fortress. I keep an open mind on the subject, unlike most people on this forum.

Why do people always reference Call of Duty? It's not even a true class-based game.

I have had Halo for a long time. And I think the time is ripe for classes. 9 years with the Quake-style gameplay is long enough.

I have heard a lot of talk about Halo Reach's Multiplayer having classes. Is this true or not?

Am I seriously the only one who reads the Bungie updates?
How can you be so dumb to ask such a question?
The only people to know this answer is obviously a Bungie employee, let alone the select few who only work on the game.
So what would be the point of asking such a question, considering Bungie will tell you otherwise.
I think you're posting just to post, sir.

Does anyone even read these?

Nothing apart from a trailer which revealed hardly anything has been released for Reach.

WHERE DO THESE RUMOURS COME FROM?

  • 08.05.2009 1:14 AM PDT

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

WHERE DO THESE RUMOURS COME FROM?
Rumors like this string together by people making assumptions. At first, I though Reach was going to be a FPSRPG (first person shooter role playing game) just based on what I saw in the trailer, or even a squad based game. Any number of theories can pop up from the most minimal of information just because people want to figure out what is going on, or voice their opinions.

I don't think they will. I just don't think classes will work with the way Halo has been played unless they take a totally different approach to this game than previous Halo titles.

Did you ever think the figures are only based on the campaign???

What could Bungie do thats new? With borrowing the weapons on map idea from Quake they went ahead and added vehicles, melee and grenades as well as the weapons being semi-realistic and believable compared to Quake and its huge over the top weapons. They really took that Quake formula and did something with it. Everything that can be done with the class based formula and I think any class based Halo would feel like a clone of something else. The only thing Halo could do is make itself larger scaled and thats about it in a class based game. I would rather see them find something unique or to keep the game the same.

Seriously, how the -blam!- does the banner suggest different classes, their just silhouettes. Your right Bungie will do what they want despite what some fans say, they make games they want to play, but they won't completely change the core of the game, which is Map control and fast pace action adding any class system would destroy this, and that is what Halo is.

You act as if you know more about the game then anyone else, you made script that you keep referring people to when it won't give them any info on this game at all, because you just made it up, sure some of it might be an educated guess but its still a guess, why would you say "The red team we play as" as if you knew we were playing as them?

In the trailer S-259 says "Spartans on the ground," and the only Spartans on the ground were Red Team. Blue Team (3 Spartans) stayed in space.

Everything is an assumption until a confirmation comes along. I think that the cover suggests class-based gameplay (at least for campaign) because of the Spartans' differing physiques and statures. The Spartans in the novels were not all equal (Kelly was quicker, Sam liked explosives, John was a jack of all trades, Linda was a sniper, Will was a close range specialist, Kurt had a sixth sense, etc.) so its possible that whoever we play as in this game will have similar specialities. At least in the campaign, otherwise why would the Spartans in the banner look so drastically different? And I doubt that the game would play different in multiplayer than in singleplayer, so the classes from SP would logically carry over. If my assumptions are right, anyway. We have to wait for more information before we can say anything for certain. That's why I said it may or may not have classes.

I never said I knew anything, only said you know nothing. I didn't say Team Beta doesn't exist but Halo is a story that Bungie created, just like they added the Spartan Black Team they can add more to it and connect it to cannon, however you script is just is garbage because you made what happens up(Using real characters and fake ones). The banner doesn't mean we'll play as every person in the banner, it could be that their all just important to the story. What did you expect, that they'd all look exactly the same all holding ARs, that'd make for a pretty uninteresting picture.
