No matter how many times I forget about this place, I always get dragged back.
I'm more than okay with that.
People tend to like to make things their own. They like to put their own personal touch on things. And video games let players do just that. From Rainbow Six: Vegas and its crazy Custom Camouflage option, to Forza's ridiculously versatile Livery Editor, to Halo's emblem and color scheme system. However, when looked at today, the emblem/color system seems to be a bit outdated and simplistic. To really allow players to dive deep into the customization of Halo: Reach, I propose some ideas.
Let's start with the small things and move on to larger matters.
Service Tags
Service Tags are one of the best features in Halo in terms of ease of communication. I propose that Service Tags be expanded to 5 characters long, and allow for letters, numbers, and punctuation only.
Armor Permutations
Armor Permutations are a huge part of Halo's customization. I propose that there be full sets of armor perms, not just a helmet (Rogue, ODST, Mark V) and that there be more of them (Mark IV, SPI, Fan Created Perms, more Elite perms). Elites should have more perms such as an Arbiter variant.
Emblems
Emblems are plentiful and so are backgrounds. They were introduced in Halo 2, and were a great success. I propose for Reach:
- that we be allowed a total of 1 emblem and 2 backgrounds
- that we be allowed to modify the size and rotation of the emblems and BGs
- that we be allowed to flip the emblems and BGs horizontally and vertically
- that we be allowed to choose where our emblem appears
- e.g. On/Off options for Left Shoulder Emblem, Right Shoulder Emblem, Left Chest Emblem, Right Chest Emblem, and Back Emblem. This way we can have emblems appear in multiple places.
- that we be allowed to save emblem and color variations to a Library to switch quickly at any time
- More emblems
- some emblem ideas: Pfhor symbol, S'pht Symbol, Sergeant (from Halo 2), Biohazard symbol, Various medals such as Beat Down, Killing Spree/Riot/Frenzy, etc., Double Kill, Triple, etc., UNSC emblem, Fan Made Emblem (like the Halo 3 Emblem Contest)
Colors
Colors have been in use on our Spartan armor since Halo 1, and it's not about to change as long as color exists, and that's forever. I propose for Reach:
- an RGB color editor, so we can get just the shade we want
- preset colors if we don't want to bother with the RGB
- the ability for our secondary to show on our shoulders (like Halo 3) and our legs (a la Halo 2)
- the ability for our secondary to show in team games, as well as our armor detail
HUD
The HUD is useful, but not always convenient. I sometimes find myself wishing something was in a different place or that it was in a different color. I propose for Reach:
- custom color HUDs, including a "negative" that becomes the opposite of whatever color it is over
- custom placement of things, like allowing us to move the corner objects to different corners, and allowing us to dock the shields over our motion tracker (Halo 2) or delete the scoreboard and put the shields in the corner (Halo 1)
That's all I have for now. I've made two rather long-winded threads tonight, both of them while I was halfway asleep. Any problems you find, let me know - also, discuss in a civil manner. I don't want none o' you kids flamin' each other in my thread, ya hear?
