The Xbox Live sponsored Halo 2 Worldwide Championship kicked off several months ago as players in 24 different countries began competing to crown regional winners. A series of mini events continued throughout each country until eventually one single person was chosen to represent in the world finals.

Today the finals took place over Xbox Live in a series of matches that would separate the best of the best and set the stage for the grand finale. While nobody at Bungie was in attendance for the finals, our contacts on the Live team did pass along some information regarding todays games.

The final pool of players came down to Japan, Germany, Netherlands, USA, France and Australia. The player from Japan won his heat giving the American, Aussie and French players their second loss and eliminating them from the competition. In the following round, Germany suffered their second defeat setting the stage for a Japan vs. Netherlands world finale.

Apparently it was a close match but King Tuur of the Netherlands pulled ahead and never looked back. Congratulations to Mr. Tuur who becomes the first ever Worldwide Halo 2 Champion and also the proud recipient of a 50" Samsung DLP HDTV, a Samsung DVD Player/Recorder, a personalized world champion trophy (featuring a 24k gold Halo 2 game disc) AND $1,500 in cash. Good stuff.

More information about the Xbox Live sponsored tournament and profiles of the finalists from each region can be found at Xbox.com.

Wow.who would of thought that the first Halo 2 world championship would be won by some Dutch guy.I would have thought that it would come down to USA vs Japan in which Japan would own because they own in almost every videogame genre.Congrats to Tuur.

The USA and Canada usually take just about every Halo international champion. I knew the second terry was chosen for it that they we weren't bringing home any award. King tut was a world champion in PGR2. He is a smart player. Terry's just a booster

well that tornny is really sad because the best players dont play much matchmaking and lots of the players in there cheated to get there rank manly terry 15(usa) it sould have been PaCMaYNE he is alot better.
so the torney had cheats in and players who were called the best for there contry but were not playing. and there is no way king tuur is the best in the world

I deff. agree w/major gamer, warlock sucks. If you get the BR on that level thats all you need. the champ. game should have been lockout. Are there recordings of those games cuz i didnt see them and i would really like to.

Yes show us the recordings!!!!!!!!

And come on, the "BEST" player in the world probably dosen't even think he's the best, and didnt even show up to that tournament. I mean come on, what are the odds, of ONE person in the world (who happens to be the best) showing up to that? Probably like 1/1,000,000........You know its true.

Kzhack! woot woot teabag time!

How can anyone hate the U.S.? The U.S. Marines are the whole theme of halo and without us you would never of had the chance to win that great prize. Maybe you should move to America since you work really goood as a marine from the future. GO USMC! oh yeah and good job!

Where can we see the game stats for the final game? They said it was played on Live so there must be stats.

I new this wouldn't be fair. Of course stk neven got involved because the tournament was off of matchmaking witch tons of cheaters are involved in, and terry15 is pretty good but never should have won. I have played with him many times and I know for a fact I am better than him and I know A LOT more people than that too. This tourny SHOULD NOT have been over online game play.

IF YOU WANTED TO FIND THE BEST YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE TOURNAMENT ON LAN!

Wow, people get more retarded every fu*c*ing day!
