Hey all.

As we all know, technology is improving every day. Computers are getting faster, games are being made more realistic, and the capabilities of all tech are increased.

So, that got me thinking: What if Reach's multiplayer was large-scaled, say 50 players? I'd think of it as something like Resistance, Fall of Man. One team are the Covenant, trying to eliminate the human resistance on the planet. The other team are the humans, defending whatever it is that needs defending.

Obviously, the teams will force players to be certain members of each armarda.

The Covenant

- Elites. Main infantry, move at normal speeds. Carry standard issue Covenant weapons. Spawn with plasma grenades. Very skilled with vehicles.
- Jackals. Snipers, move faster than average. Come equipped with a Beam Rifle and a sidearm. No access to grenades. Can only ride in vehicles. Low health.
- Hunters. Anti-armour, move at slower speeds but deal immense damage. Also have more health than all Covenant classes. Come equipped with fuel cannons. Can only be transported with Phantoms.
- Brutes. Demolitions, move at normal speeds. Carry Brute shots (anti-vehicle) and Spikers (anti-infantry). Spawn with firebomb and spike grenades. Can use vehicles.
- Drones. Scout units, move at high speeds, with very little health. Capable of flying for short periods. Can only be transported by Phantoms. Can also repair vehicles.
- Zealot Elite. Anti-everything. Moves the same speed as Elites, and jumps just as high. Uses grenades, but has a modified Carbine as their primary, and an Energy Sword as their secondary. Can resist slightly more damage than Elites, but cannot use vehicles as effectively.
- Pilot Elites. Carry Plasma Rifles and Spikers, and are the only units that can fly Phantoms.
- Gauntlet Jackals. Support unit. Carry Gauntlets, and thus move slowly. Carry Carbines and Plasma Pistols, but cannot use Carbines with the Gauntlet equipped. Have the same health as snipers, but the shield can block fire.

Humans (UNSC)

- Basic Marines. Main infantry. Carry Assault Rifles, frags, and Scoped Magnums. Can use all UNSC vehicles.
- Demolitions Marines. Demolitions/Close-Combat experts. Carry Rocket Launchers and Spartan Lasers, and move very slowly with heavyarmour. Can only be transported by Pelicans.
- ODSTs. Specialists. Carry Battle Rifles and Magnums, along with being slightly more agile and resistant to damage than Marines. No access to grenades.
- Spartans. Anti-everything. Moves the same speed as ODSTs, and jumps a little higher. Uses grenades, with a Battle Rifle as their primary, and a Shotgun as their secondary. Can resist slightly more damage than ODSTs, but cannot use vehicles as effectively.
- Pilots. Carry Magnums and SMGs. Have the same health and speed as Basic Marines, but are the only class that can pilot Pelicans.
- Sniper. Carries a Sniper Rifle and a Magnum. Faster than average marines, but has far less health. Is very agile, and can drive all vehicles but the Pelican.
- Recon Marine. Scout unit. Fast, low health, and is very agile with much greater jumping abilities than all UNSC units. Carries a Battle Rifle and a Scoped Magnum.
- CQB Marines. Suicide units. Carry Rockets and SMGs, with very high levels of health, and a low speed. Can only ride in vehicles. Can repair vehicles.

Vehicles

- Phantoms. Carry 16 players (one pilot, gunner, two turretsmen, and 12 passengers.)
- Ghosts.
- Spectres.
- Shades.
- Wraiths.
- AA Wraiths.

- Pelicans. Carry 16 Players (one pilot, two gunners, turretsman, and 12 passengers.)
- LAAG Warthog.
- Transport Warthog.
- Mongoose.
- Scorpion.
- Gauss Warthog.

The Objective?

Siege

Humans: Defend the city's main structures from Covenant attacks, while also pushing forward to eliminate the opposing forces, and destroy their bases.

Covenant: Attack the human city and capture the key buildings, while defending their own bases.

It's basically Territories, only once a building is captured or destroyed, it becomes a neutral area.

CTF

Simple: One team defends an objective, while the other team tries to capture it. UNSC defends a communications pack, while the Covenant defend the attack co-ordinates.

Assault

UNSC defends a large military base. If the Covenant get their bomb into the base, it's game over for the humans. Likewise, if the UNSC gets their bomb into the Covenent stronghold, kaboom.

VIP

Each team has a General. The Generals must be kept alive for long enough to be evacuated by an AI pilot. Once they reach the evac zone, they must be defended by the rest of the team. Once they are extracted, they respawn as regular players. Next to die becomes the General.

Good ol' Slayer

First to 250 kills. Good luck.

Teams

25 vs 25 seems like a good number to deal with the carnage, but obviously a large map will be needed.

Maps

Covenant bombing sites - newly attacked cities which must be protected from the Covenant.
UNSC-fortified cities - cities which are currently untouched by the Covenant.

Review

Overall, the game would play a lot like Frontlines: Fuel of War, only you cannot reclaim bases. It would also be like ArmA 2, with the classes and vehicle options.

Of course, it would still be good if it was just Spartans versus Elites.

Thoughts?

ima BAMF

If they would use this for Reach, I would literally give my left nut to Bungie. It would be amazing to see such a system for the multiplayer in Reach. I can't wait for the beta:p

Thats all I have to say about this.

DAIMONDZ

yeah. halo3s multiplayer was good but its epicness and big battles (for me) became a bit boring. seeing halo in a massive scale and being more exiting would absoulutly be awsome!!

I am asleep.

This would be amazing if it was implemented :P
Such large scale fights would be of epic proportions.

So does this mean I can do the PM version of drunk dialing you when I'm lonely? Seriously though thanks, I already enjoy this group a lot so I'm planning on staying.

Oh god yes.
Er, I mean, yes sure. They certainly give an interesting look into a person ^.^;

I think this would be a awesome idea, but the only problem would be laggy connections. Imagine 50 laggy connections going on

yea i think thats a great idea i love the big battles and it would be a break from the same old characters you use in multiplayer

mongooses are the best. Remember that.

Do you like to forge? Want a place to share your maps? Want to join a friendly forging group? Plasmic Forgers

This would be really cool, nice and something different. Wish this was the game itself.

My stories:

Streams of Fire

Jiralhanae

similar to MAG? (a new fps coming out with 256-person games)

there would have to be dedicated servers, and i don't know if Bungie would/could do it.

Although a nice idea restricted classes like that disrupt/break/destroy flow and make you think "Why can't I drive that vehicle?" or "Why can't I use that weapon?". I think a class system could work but it needs to be more flexible than that.

I really hope they dont just go with the same old type of gam, just plain FPS with a good story, somthing like this would be an amazing change and smaller maps without pelicans and stuff could still be implemented for the same type of multiplayer as Halo 3. I can't believe they havent stuck a pelican or a phantom in Halo multiplayer yet. : (

Why would Spartans not be able use vehicles as effectively as normal Marines and ODSTs??

Fairness. I'd say, unlike all other UNSC roles, the Spartans can hi-jack vehicles. Besides, I'm pretty sure Reach was set with the Spartans from Halo Wars? If so, then you could always say there were still being improved.

Hey all.

Technology is improving everyday, but we will be stuck with the same 360 system keep in mind, Halo lags a lot in 4 v 4, I couldn't imagine going all the way up to something like 32 v 32.

If the 360 had the power of a Ps3 than, halo probably could sustain larger battles.

In regards to your idea, I wouldn't really want classes, but if bungie had different playlist options like they do now, like Big team battle if they could get 16 vs 16 on supporting maps with tons of vehicles and stuff that would be good, but of course I would still like the option to have a normal 4 vs 4 game on supporting maps as well.

If they can improve the XBL side of things big 16v16 battles could be possible. I don't think the problem is with the 360, just the terrible networking stuff inbetween.

Ya, I think it is just halo, no other game I have for Ps3 or 360 lags when I play online.

I don't exactly recall, but I did read something about Halo 3's maps being fully interactive(not sure don't fully remember), contributing to lag more than other games because weapons aren't respawning in other games.

It has nothing to do with the 360s strength. Its the network type. In Halo 1,2, and 3, the "server" in these games is actually one of the players in the game. But if there were dedicated servers, the player count could be made higher indefinitely, pretty much, to around MAG's level (but I would put a limit at it at 32 players max., with a more reasonable number 24 players).

Thanks for clearing that up, I get confused with system type stuff, when you try to run a PC game that requires a better PC, but you play the game on an outdated one, that is what I was thinking about regarding Ps3/360.

  • 08.05.2009 5:29 PM PDT

Vae Victis!

It would be awesome to have a large scale (50 player) class-based multiplayer game.

Dedicated servers would be a must though (or else we'd suffer from Gears of War 2 levels of lag), and an offline mode with bots (like the battlefield and battlefront series) would also be essential (for me anyway).

  • 08.05.2009 6:06 PM PDT

This seems really unbalanced.

It seems like what would happen is there'd be 1 pilot and everyone else would be a heavy weapons class and do drive by's in the pelicans, shooting rockets at everyone on the ground.

The combo of Rockets + Driving would be WAY too common imo. I don't think you should ever be able to spawn with rockets.
