Just putting it out there. Someone find me some evidence for or against.

Implementing this feature could cause more frustration. If you decide to camp in one spot or if you're the only one left on your team in BTB but don't want to quit and decide to hide, you could be kicked from the game.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Not a tree

You could switch grenades or look around. You wouldn't be inactive per se.

I don't think you are allowed to talk about bungie on Bungie.net.

To solve both betrayal issues and inactivity, you might as well have the 'vote to kick' option.
If majority agrees, the player's booted.

Vote to kick can be horribly abused. Especially in social:
1 group goes in with more than the team size so they can kick the best player from the other team.

Vote Kicks also slow down gameplay on console through interface.

From personal experience, there are instances when you don't move or press any buttons. Usually when playing objective games, I'll watch the flag without moving and get messages moving across my screen on how to play the game (ie. hold RT to shoot). On occasion I'll usually go do something else and leave my controller sitting still until my team tells me that the enemy is advancing into the base (sometimes they never make it into the base during the game).

I'd imagine if the auto kick feature was implemented, it would activate in a relatively short time. Such as when tutorial messages would start appearing on the screen. Anything later than that would really be pointless as the "damage" would already be done, giving the enemy a fair amount of kills.

You're still gonna be moving your scope around.

You would be crouching most of the time, so that won't be a worry. I say there should be a spawn screen similar to Battlefield, that lets you choose when you want to spawn. In that case, if the AFK player dies, he'll be stuck at the respawn screen the whole time. And like Batllefield, there will be a kick feature if that player chooses not to respawn after 15 seconds or so.

I like the idea of having a respawn modifier; something that will stop AFK players from respawning. Though there is a chance this feature would be abused in order to preserve kill streak, K/D ratio, and other similar statistics regardless of whether or not there will be a kick feature.

I think I understand what you're saying. A player with a ton of kills dies for the first time, and in order to keep his K/D up, stays in the respawn screen? Well, to prevent that, he can only stay in the screen for 15 seconds before being autospawned some. The system would distinguish between who's been playing and who hasn't, auto kicking players who have not moved and autospawning players that have been playing the game.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

Sounds good, it's also likely, considering Bungie are always thinking of new ways to prevent boosting.

Why are people like you alive?

  • 08.05.2009 11:08 PM PDT

great idea but they should have a timer for it because what would happen if someones batteries died.

  • 08.06.2009 8:49 PM PDT

the time would have to be much longer.

what if they gotta get the door
or the controller batteries die.

and only in slayer vip and infection games. in flag bomb etc. they are kinda good(over having them quit) cause theyre like a distraction to the other team trying to get a free stick or something

I agree. I get booted a lot when I kill someone by accident, which is irritating. This would solve both problems for the most part. The only problem is that you'd get booted if someone the majority don't like you, which isn't fair. I think the Auto Kicker is still a better idea.

I had the same problem in another game called Combat Arms which has something similar to your proposed system (although they added it to get rid of hackers). I tend to have somewhat (very) uneven play performance between games, and this game I was doing incredibly well. Because of this, somebody voted to kick me for hacking. I have also been kicked for no apparent reason in other matches, probably because I was doing badly. Because of this, I wonder how you would make sure that players are only kicked for betrayals and or not playing.
