Subject: The Blood Gulch Thread [3D Template + HD Model]

GT: BigstickToucan

My old Bungie.net account was created February 6, 2008. Unfortunately, I had signed up using my brother's email account (we then shared an Xbox Live account which was linked to my old Bungie.net account), and he changed the password, meaning I couldn't log in. Thus is why I have this account.

This thread was originally posted in the Halo 3: ODST forum by Homeboyd903. I made a few changes.

So its not coming with ODST. Reach is still a possibility and the map packs that come with it. I guarantee you we will see it before the series is over.

So far, Bungie has incorporated many of its fans opinions via viable reconstructions to playlists, map remakes (for example, Midship remade as Heretic and Chill Out remade as Cold Storage), new weapons in ODST, and only Bungie knows what awaits in the new Halo: Reach game.

My point here is simple. Many forum goers have stated simply that there will not be a Blood Gulch remake and have quoted Bungie employees as stating so. But, if I wanted to make people believe they werent going to get something that everyone so desperately wants, I would approach the same way. Get everyone down in the dumps, and then BOOM, out of right field bless the customers that have made me rich by giving them the most desired remake in the history of Halo. Bungie listens to its fans... they know what will make them happy.. and they provide gifts of glory to their followers.. Blood Gulch is next my friends.. Blood Gulch is next.

I know about the "impossibility" of creating an exact remake due to different fighting styles of Halo 2 vs. Halo 3. I also am aware of the similar maps Valhalla and Standoff (which aren't very similar to Blood Gulch at all). Just prepare. Blood Gulch will arrive with Halo: Reach. Possibly as DLC with Halo 3: ODST as well.

Save this thread to get Bungie's attention and dont forget to join the group mentioned below!

If you would like to see a BG remake/reimagination but think it needs some changes due to the different styles of Halo 3 gameplay, add what changes you think should be made here:

i.e.
-No lasers/Yes to lasers
-No equipment
-Addition of tripmines and other equipment
-Make the valley in the middle lower/higher
-Make the bases lower/higher
-Increase/decrease in tunnel system on sides of maps
-More/less flying vehicles
-More/less regular vehicles

No matter how many times I forget about this place, I always get dragged back.

I'm more than okay with that.

I think they should make the map smaller, give it more cover, give the bases mancannons and remove teleporters, and open up the canyon on one side to a body of water for aesthetic appeal. Also, make a river run through the map.

Oh, wait...

2 bases, vehicles, a canyon.
Sounds pretty similar.

Isolation, Sandtrap, Snowbound, Avalanche, Rat's Nest, and Sandbox also have two bases and vehicles. Are they all remakes of Blood Gulch?

Forgot the canyon part.
That pretty much eliminates all of those. Except Valhalla.

If you didn't have a sniper or a vehicle, you were pretty much toast.

This was in the thread you linked, in a reply on the first page.
The reason we have Valhalla and Standoff is to have the Blood Gulch feel, while fixing this major balance problem.

Oh, I have played much CE and 2.
And I hate Blood Gulch and Coagulation. Strict vehicle combat does not a good map make.

The reason we have Valhalla and Standoff is to have the Blood Gulch feel, while fixing this major balance problem.
1. Valhalla and Standoff don't have the Blood Gulch feel.
2. There are only eight shots at each base by default. It isn't like they will be sniping all day. And it is very easy to go behind the base in the warthog and gun the sniper down.

And if you don't have a Warthog? Well Blood Gulch would say, "-blam!- you."

I guess I just happen to prefer maps that don't put people without vehicles or power weapons at a major disadvantage.

I definitely think that Blood Gulch should be in Reach, It's such an iconic map, that it defies gravity, bends spacetime, goes at lightspeed and passes infinity and loops back on itself. It's the most popular map in Halo. Hell, even Halo Wars has it.

Im sure we'll see it in Reach. Im willing to bet we'll see a lot of remakes in Reach, BUT, you will have the option to play them in MM vs having to play them. A lot of people want remakes but a lot of people dont. I love seeing new maps, and would like them even more than remakes.. but on top of having the new maps, we should get some remakes as well. Just have a playlist in MM that offers remakes-only, remakes + new maps, and new maps only. That way we can satisfy everyones wants.

Or, if the veto system is updated and you can veto the map, and/or the gametype 2nd.. You could either have a new/remake as a first choice, then if the MAP is vetoed the opposite will come up:

1 Flag CTF on Assembly

- Map vetoed but not gametype

New Map/Game:

1 Flag CTF on Heretic (Midship Remake)

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

No. I hope this thread dissapears in the deep pages of this forum. Blood Gulch was good in Halo 1, but I perfer bungie to evolve from that. They evolved to coag, then Valhalla. I dont want to see an unoriginal exact remake of blood gulch in Reach.

Already answered that. I played both H1 and H2. I just tended to play balanced maps where I could still get kills with my starting weapons. BG/Coag was unbalanced in the first two games, the new maps in Halo 3 retained vehicle combat while not screwing you over if you weren't a lucky vehicle driver/gunner or sniper holder.

That's ridiculous. A big map is designed to played with "big" weapons. i.e. Sniper, Rockets, BR, Carbine, etc.. What makes BG/Coag unbalanced? Vehicles vs. On-foot? Well, of course, since when is that ever balanced..? On any map? My point is.. this go around, we have the laser to add to the mix. People always complain (the ones that dont want BG back) that vehicles/snipers were too powerful. Well ok, but there are plenty of vehicles now.. Imagine BG with mongoose runs, slap a ghost in there.. choppers even. The gameplay would COMPLETELY change with all these new vehicles. And to keep the vehicles in check, you have:

Sticky Grenades (Plasma and Spike)
Trip-Mines
Power Drains
Spartan Laser
Sniper Rifles
Rocket Launchers
Mongoose vehicles that are much faster than running on foot like you used to have to do in objective games on BG/Coag.

And more cover could be added to the middle of the map to provide more protection against vehicles.

As for the sniper being too powerful.. Ridiculous. Have 1 sniper spawn on either side, MAYBE one extra clip. BR starts.. Laser in the middle.. And vehicles are always there to help out with snipers. Also, Rockets in the tunnels perhaps? We also have equipment this go around.. Regen's and bubble shields (maybe deployable cover) would help a lot with sniper cover as well.

If this doesnt sound like a balanced game, then I dont know what does.

This is my signature nub.

Is Halo Reach Halo CE? No. It's Halo Reach. So stop asking for Blood Gulch. You know Bungie has said that Valhalla is the Blood Gulch reimagination. And I'm happy with it.

They said Valhalla was a spiritual successor and was not intended to replace Blood Gulch.

Ok... Im going to break this down for those of you who don't understand:

Why do people keep comparing these two maps as if one replaces the other?

Does Assembly replace Midship? No.. it could be a "spiritual successor" because it is similar to Midship, but does it play like Midship? NO. Valhalla doesnt play like Blood Gulch, therefore its not, nor anything close to being a remake of Blood Gulch. Sure its a "spiritual successor" but I dont remember anyone here or anywhere else asking for a Blood Gulch spiritual successor.. Do you?

No.

We get it. Valhalla is similar at best. But its not the same. Standoff is similar. But its not the same. And this is just comparing the looks of the maps. If you're referring to gameplay, then no, they are nothing alike.

People want a BG remake because they want similar gameplay. No, we dont have to have a pixel-for-pixel remake.. Instead of dirt, use snow. Instead of caves, use forerunner tunnels. Instead of concrete bases, use freakin' stucco. That's what you guys who think Valhalla is a good enough replacement dont get. We want a BG-like map that brings back the gameplay reminiscent of the original map. Not something that looks similar but plays completely different.

If this doesn't make sense to you.. then I dont know what else to tell you. Its about as clear as it can get.

A snowy Blood Gulch would be awesome. The rocks replaced with ice, the walls ice like in Avalanche. The vehicles designed like they are in Avalanche.
