I'll be on my own side.

its the name of Thor's hammer. Thor is a Norse god.

-S

It's not an abbreviation. The all caps is a writing convention.

I have a rather large knowledge of Norse mythology due to my love of Viking metal, so let me attempt to shed some light on the subject.
Mjolnir was the hammer of the thunder god Thor, it was forged by the dwarves, and Thor used it to strike fear into the hearts of the Frost Giants, Mjolnir was so powerful that Thor had to wear an iron gauntlet on his right hand in order to wield it. After his death, Mjolnir was passed down to Thor's son, the only other who was strong enough to wield it. Thats all my knowledge pertaining to Mjolnir. I AM NOT A NERD, viking metal just rules...

I think it is more a "marathon connection" as the player is a MJOLNIR Mk V cyborg in the series.

That and it's a cool word :)

its fitting too. the armor can only be worn by the Spartans, the only ones powerful enough to wear it

Don't kid yourself by thinking it's only a Halo thing... it's an emphasis on the players power when compared to a normal man.

It is even said in tFoR that it was "The hammer of the norse god of thunder"
i cant remember exactly what page but it was when the Spartans was onboard the Commonwealth en-route to Chi Cheti IV to get the MJOLNIR suits.

It says John-117 (Master Cheif) was curius what MJOLNIR was so he looked it up in the education database.

Norse is like something from Norway?

I often get very annoyed that it's called 'norse' mythology in english, like if vikings only lived in Norway. Granted, Norway have the largest coastline and may have trvavelled the largest distances (America), but it lived more vikings in Sweden than Norway, for example. The biggest viking city (also biggest cultural and religious center) laid close to where Stockholm is today. It also lived Vikings in Denmark, Iceland and Greenland. They also had colonies in many places along the rivers and coastlines in the counties they 'traded' in. (actually, new arhelogichal findings strongly indicate that it was a viking colony that conquered some land that would eventually turn into Russia)

And as an american, i am somewhat annoyed that american means "one of the United States" in english. As opposed to something like "estadounidense" for spanish(Estados Unidos = United States). But that's the funny thing about language. Some lack key words. What are you gonna do? ::shrugs::

(in fact, a babel fish translation of "estadounidense" yields "american." no joke.)

And random key tibit to get us back on topic, "Minatuar" had Mjornir in it as a usable weapon! And Durandal was the other unique weapon. And for you "myth'ers", there was "yell" too. As opposed to "chat." I love some sort of connectivity b/n games . . .

mjolnir doesnt stand for anything, it's named after the hammer of the norse god Thor also called Mjolnir (pronounced M-ee-oh-l-neer), he used it to defeat the supposedly undefeatable ice giants, which is why i think the mc will destroy the convenant.

I only know this because we had to read Myths and legends of the Norse (basically common people explanations for everything, usually involving the gods, the ice giants lots of alchohol and a alot of the s-e-x) and because in the fall of reach john does research on mjolnir.

Don't contradict yourself...

"mjolnir doesnt stand for anything... *snip*... which is why i think the mc will destroy the convenant"

I mean seriously... do some thinking...
Oh and Jager.... visit "Mulling over marathon..." we're currently on the topic of Halo/Marathon/Myth links, your knowledge could prove valuable ;)

Actually, Mjolnir is the english name for the hammer. I don't know if this holds true for all scandinavian languages, but it's real name is "Mjölner". The Ö is pronounced as the 'i' in 'girl'. The rest (i think) is obvious.
