Will We Actually Be Able To Rewind in Campaign Theater?

It was mighty frustrating not being able to do so for Halo 3. Has this been fixed for ODST?

Go Rams and Missouri!

No.

What about the inbred house potatoes?!

.

You could not do it in Halo 3, ODST is on the same engine, so no you can not.

I'm going to say this. No.
It can't be done for the simple reason of AI. Theater isn't just a 3D video, it is the game playing, or replaying its self. Rewinding the AI messes with it and it will change what it does, thus making the film no longer the game you played. The only reason you can rewind in Multiplayer films is because there is no AI in multiplayer, the film is basically replaying all the data, because its all input data.

When did Bungie say so?

I read in a Weekly Update that they were using the same setup as Halo 3's campaign, which meant that theater mode wouldn't allow to you to rewind. Same goes for Firefight, which is built off the Halo 3 campaign lobby.

That makes sense.

That would mean no rewinding in Firefight either...

Actually, it's got to do with the amount of stuff in the movie (which I guess is AI) that made it take forever to rewind in Halo 3. It's not exactly what you had it as (where the AI would change), but I would take a guess and say that the AI were a big reason that it took forever.

well, i don't know...

is the entirety of new mombasa loaded all the time? (at night)... like a multiplayer map?

i highly doubt that...

but if it is then yes you could rewind

if not, no you couldn't

EDIT: i'm pretty sure the only reason you can rewind in multiplayer is because the entire map is loaded all the time, while campaign spawns and despawns parts of the map as you go along.

What I said was the primary reason.

really old news FTW..

go to "why cant i go backwards in a campaign saved game" part

i was right...

so if the new Mombasa is loaded completely all the time then yes you could rewind (that is if bungie fixed the other problems with rewinding)

I like how they made no atempt to explain the AI problem that has been discussed on the forums by bungie employees.

I really don't feel like digging it up, but if you are interested use the search bar, Type something along the lines of
"Campaign Theater AI"

True, but one could argue that films are simply saved code of the events which happened. Meaning that the A.I wouldn't react differently, because its actions would already be coded in.

if you're wondering, yeah I'm making a guess here.

u better be able to i hate going back and forth but if they dont its cool

<3

I wish. But most likely not due to it running on the same engine.

I could have sworn it was the checkpoints/loading next part of the level and such that stopped you from rewinding because of having to load new data. The AI problem doesn't seem to make sense to me because it is an actual saved film and not just a recreation of what happened, and even if it is a recreation, then why do the AI do the same things over and over if you restart the film, essentially the same as rewinding the film in multiplayer? Meaning you could rewind and take clips in firefight.
