Subject: Similarities between Firefight and other "Horde" type gam...

I was playing COD5 then GOW2 and was wondering which game (if any) bungie will be following suit. I love the variation of enemies and knowing where the power weapons are on the map in GOW2. On the other hand I love going for the Mystery Box and attempting to get the Wunderwaffle (how ever you spell it) and knowing the best spots when things get tough.

Any thoughts on how it will turn out being similar or different to any other games?

Put them here...

In almost every interview it's been said to be compared to (and inspired by) GoW2.

Discord is my bro.

I think it's more inspired by the classic "Survival" mode you found on old games.

IDK much about the COD5 "Horde" mode, but I think it's never-ending, right? Then in Gears 2 the waves get progressively harder. I'd say it's a mix, but the main difference from Gears 2 is the fact the waves are random. IDK how it is in COD5.

Well, more zombies arrive and they get tougher.

since marathon was the first to have a "survival mode," then games like COD5 and GW2 followed suite with Bungie. I'm sick of these -blam!- posts saying "OmGz!! BunGIeee CoPiZ GW2!? wTf?!"

I dont care if horde mode is similar, I dont care if Modern Warfare has "better" graphics (which it doesnt), and I dont care if MW2 is going to be more popular or not, I dont care- and neither does anyone else. Get the -blam!- out this forum and go to where you belong.

whoa sweet jesus, mary and joseph I know that bungie will make their own path and not be exactly to the specifications of other games but I wonder what it it will be similar to

Is it random, or do zombies come in set patterns?

There is no greater catharsis than arguing on the Flood.

Let's get this straight for everyone. FireFight is like Zombies and Horde because they are a form of survival mode. The similarities end there.

ya but they are most likely going to adapt some ideas of other developers so I am asking a question to the rest of the forum what they know or think or have any ideas on what will happen

Actually, this guy's right. Firefight becomes more challenging by adding skulls, bringing in different effects that alter the flow of combat. Call of Duty and Gears of War simply add more enemies and greater numbers of them.

Also, they wouldn't really be "adapting" to the other developers, simply because Firefight was on the drawing boards before even Halo 3 came out, when it simply didn't make the cut as opposed to Forge and Theater. ODST is just another opportunity to introduce unique ideas that Bungie's other games simply didn't have room for.

Also, yeah, if anything, I'm pretty sure Bungie invented the Survival gamemode, and I can relate to the other people here that are upset when others say Bungie is copying another developer, or even "adapting" to their style, when in reality they were the first to implement it.

I'd rephrase your words, if, that is, you are really just comparing the two and any similarities they may share.

Sean:ok...you the A student..."Raaaaaaaaaaah" right?

Marathon had "Survival" so if bungie is coping or inspired then it was from theirselves

in the words of austin powers " Whoop de do Basil"

I'm saying this as in they may have invented survival mode and had Firefight before Halo 3 was released but they will use other ideas. They want to make the game as good as it can be, and having a idea that is that many years old may not just stack up to other game modes that have been made and proven to the gamers.

That said i do think/ hope that bungie can re-invent the genre, your not the first person to play Halo are you? So there can be others that catch onto an idea and run with it and attempt to make it better. What I am saying is; What will Bungie implement that is similar to other producers versions?

Sorry buddy...but thats not right either...Bungie is not like other companies at all..they do not have use others ideas..when they clearly do things their own way. If i have to sit here and list all the ways bungie is different then you are in the wrong forum my friend.

If anything others are taking ideas from bungie which would make sense, since bungie was the company that put the xbox on the map and kept it afloat all these years. I say that while knowing how well CoD and all the other games sold but Halo is Microsofts baby.

punished

im just glad they did it i think it would be really cool if as the "levels" or "stages" go up the armour on the brutes would change like they did in the story

W/E I admit defeat,

You people are crazy, I made a post stating How if any similarites would be made and if any ideas would be neat but that was blown out of the water.

Time to kill myself

to be a creative expanding studio it would be good for Bungie to look at what other people are doing. do you think Jimi Hendrix just evented all his guitar techniques by himself? no he listened to other guitarists that came before him played with the other good guitarists around him and he implemented it in his play. The people at Bungie are smart and they probably do look at other people's games for inspiration.

-I was here

i personally think that firefight will be more similar to the search bar than horde

  • 08.06.2009 8:10 PM PDT

Both games (GoW2 and H3: ODST) are both owned by microsoft game studios so it is based off of horde not N@Zi Zombies

i think hes right
cause on marothon you play survival mode

  • 08.06.2009 9:05 PM PDT

How's it going?

Everything is pretty much similar except that for ODST, it's a FPS, not a TPS. Whoever thinks it is should drive a stake though their heart.

  • 08.06.2009 9:09 PM PDT

odst will be more harder cause it changes from normal to easy so on so on. on the skulls turn off and on.
