-- -- Weather Effects in Studio Produced Maps -- --
I know many people want weather effects added to forge. That would be nice.. But even more than that, I'd like to see the new MM maps have changing weather effects.
For example:
Say Avalanche was a Halo: Reach multiplayer map. Over the course of the game's time, the weather could progressively change from less extreme to more extreme or vice versa. At the start of the game there would be snow on the ground but the sun would be shining. As time progressed you would see light snow showers starting to fall and a few minutes after you may see heavier snowfall. This would reduce visibility and effect gameplay pretty drastically. It could also cause vehicles to move slower (trudging through snow). Other effects could apply.
Now I know people wouldn't necessarily enjoy losing visibility, moving slower, etc.. but it could work in your favor in objective games, or against you. It would have to be random or otherwise people would know exactly when the heavier snow fall would start and when it would clear.
Thats just a snow example. For some reason, Longshore looks like it needs a light drizzle occasionally.
-- Time of Day of Match --
Each game started on a particular map could have a time of day you start the match with listed in the pre-game lobby. The time of day would obviously effect the amount of sunlight/moonlight the map experiences.
For example:
Gametype: Slayer
Map: Avalanche
Time of Day: Midnight
Possible effects:
-- Discussed -- Bullet shifting should probably not occur, unless it was only very slight and for a very brief period of time. --
Wind - Causes bullet shifting
- Possible debris? - visibility, cause slight damage
Rain - Bullet shifting, visibility, traction
- Thunder/Lightning?
Snow - Bullet shifting, visibility, speed
- Falling avalanche?
Sleet - Would probably have to be a starting effect (maybe only certain areas) - Traction
Sand - Visibility, speed (with wind)
Sunshine - Games at around noon have more glare, shadows - Visibility
- Games between 6am - 7pm
Moonlight - Glare in certain places, shadows - Visibility
- Games after 7pm
Certain combinations of above.
-- -- -- It would be cool to start a match sunny with a light drizzle, and progressively get dark outside with heavier rainfall and wind. -- -- --
Im sure no engine could handle all of this... Just a thought.
OK LISTEN -- READ -- THIS PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
Ok I think you guys are missing what I was going for here with the Time of Day feature. What Im suggesting is a random time generator for each match. Not at all based on what time it really is outside.. For instance:
Say its a 2v2 Slayer match:
Red Team:
Player 1: xXx iTz Da 4Shot Kyng xXx - Location: USA
Player 2: AussieGamerBall3r - Location: Australia
(2 completely different time zones, days.. etc)
Blue Team:
Player 1: TsingTao'nRice - Location: Japan
Player 2: BResmuymal - Location: Mexico
(Again 2 different time zones..)
So with all 4 players we could have 4 different time zones. This has NOTHING to do with what "time" the match will start on.
The pregame lobby:
Team Doubles
GT: Slayer
Map: BG Remake (see what I did there?) :D
Time of Day: 7:30 PM (This is randomly generated and could be a completely different time next time you play the map)
So.. the time of day (IN THE MATCH - IN THE GAME - IN THE FAKE REALITY - NOT IN REAL LIFE) is 7:30.. So, that means the sun would be setting and over the course of the 15 min game it would eventually get dark the longer the match lasts.
Hopefully this makes sense, and Im sorry to the guys who understood it from the start, but for some reason people just couldnt understand it. So I had to break it down for them and hold their hands like a child.
Capiche?
