Yeah, I had the same idea a few months ago.

But since they are developping a new game engine with current technology for triple A title, maybe!!! :)

What about those who always play halo on the evening or night... then the maps will always be dark...???

otherwise this is a very good idea :)

haha no Im not suggesting you play on maps based on what time it is where you are.. it just randomly generates a match at a random time

Very cool ideas. I'm not sure if bullet shifting would be a good idea though. Especially with so many different effects, having just a regular match would be much more rare, so bullet shifting would be all over the place.
agreed i wouln't want that one,but the other ones sound amazing!

Character Artist -- Electronic Arts

Time of Day is not possible with the Reach Around AAA Engine.
They still bake lightmaps.

Now if it were made in Frostbite, you could do ToD.

Re-live Marathon:Durandal. Get it today for 800 Microsoft points on the marketplace.

while this is a good idea, its insanely hard to pull off, all these combonations, editing light nodes to change all the time, while weather is in play... It just seems too difficult, Bungie would probably have to have servers to keep the maps in check and it would just be too chaotic.

  • 08.07.2009 11:42 AM PDT

Thats why I said.. "Its just a thought..."

  • 08.07.2009 12:04 PM PDT

The new Reach engine will be a lot better than the Halo 3 engine.. and this one could handle it.

Avalanche on gears of war 2 is the best example. The map's layout changes when an avalanche engulfs the map.

Never played it.. but that sounds pretty sweet.

*Prepares for the "This isnt GoW so STFU and GTFO" flame*

An avalanche on Avalanche would be friggin sweet!

GoW2 is a great game, its just the first one was kinda awful so no one gave the second one a chance. But yeah its really cool people get buried by it and then things get knocked over and more areas of the map are exposed.

Ive always said and agreed with people who said the maps need to be more interactive. Like the falling bridges on Turf. More doors to open/close.. etc.. this would be sweeet. The avalanche could fall and block off certain pathways. Strategy..

What if youre playing in the U.S. in daytime with someone in Japan. In Japan, it'd be night.

Ok I think you guys are missing what I was going for here with the Time of Day feature. What Im suggesting is a random time generator for each match. Not at all based on what time it really is outside.. For instance:

Say its a 2v2 Slayer match:

Red Team:
Player 1: xXx iTz Da 4Shot Kyng xXx - Location: USA
Player 2: AussieGamerBall3r - Location: Australia
(2 completely different time zones, days.. etc)

Blue Team:
Player 1: TsingTao'nRice - Location: Japan
Player 2: BResmuymal - Location: Mexico
(Again 2 different time zones..)

So with all 4 players we could have 4 different time zones. This has NOTHING to do with what "time" the match will start on.

The pregame lobby:

Team Doubles
GT: Slayer
Map: BG Remake (see what I did there?) :D
Time of Day: 7:30 PM (This is randomly generated and could be a completely different time next time you play the map)

So.. the time of day (IN THE MATCH - IN THE GAME - IN THE FAKE REALITY - NOT IN REAL LIFE) is 7:30.. So, that means the sun would be setting and over the course of the 15 min game it would eventually get dark the longer the match lasts.

Hopefully this makes sense, and Im sorry to the guys who understood it from the start, but for some reason people just couldnt understand it. So I had to break it down for them and hold their hands like a child.

Capiche?

Awsome idea. but wouldnt it suck if say you were sniping
and the wind moved your bullet from a perfect head shot!
and that would make me REALLY mad!

  • 08.07.2009 8:07 PM PDT

well bullet shifting doesnt have to apply.. it was just an idea

More customization always = win.
My words would've been bigger and far less witty, but I agree. It never hurts for Bungie to add more options to the game.

I would live rain storm effects.

I think it is a great idea, but again Bungie might get framed for stealing GoW s idea. And also the way you want the maps to be would call for a whole new system itself

  • 08.07.2009 9:33 PM PDT

Too many things. Bullet shifting would probably be lagtastic. and you would have to learn how to use the gun like it was new every time.

  • 08.07.2009 9:37 PM PDT

Wort Wort Wort???

Also, hilarious quote:

True. Now that I think about it having the -blam!- beat out of you with a pool ball in a tube sock by your degenerate pimp is the better choice.

.

The problem is timezones. I might be playing with somebody from Hawaii. That means it might be dark and pouring where I live and it still might be daytime in Hawaii. If everybody sees something different, then it can't have an effect on gameplay.

I guess snow/rain could be independent of the real world. But then I think there are issues with changing the time of day. Whoever works on the lightmaps would have to tell us if it is possible.

JESUS what is wrong with people? Why can you not read.. Its simple. READ. JUST READ.

  • 08.08.2009 9:20 AM PDT

If it were so easy.

This sounds like a good idea, it would make the normal map unique every time you play on it, personally I support this idea.
