Sieg Zeon

im one of the ones who would love to see halo reach play out a lot like the books but however this game will make at least the fall of reach and first stike, if not all of the books Semi-canon and not 100% canon, basically bungie can do what ever the hell they want with the game and it will be canon even if its nothing like the book, and anything in the books that contradict the game will not be considered canon, but the stuff that doesnt contradict will still be canon, its the same thing with the starwars book series, they are only semi-canon, just want to get this out there to see all of the comments about how the game should be just like the books to end

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

If they made Reach exactly like the books there would be more talking than combat.

Signatures are for squares.

The books are 100% canon, and cannot be defied by Bungie, since Bungie has to proof read the book, while it's in Development. And the information from the books is part of the Halo Bible

Retcon says what? They wrote it, they can re-write or unwrite it.

Luckily there are creative work-arounds which could feasibly allow for a campaign set in the same setting and time period as the books but without screwing with the Canon.

You don't really understand how important the canon of a story is.

Exactly

Imagine if George Lucas decided that Darth Vader never died and that Luke Skywalker turned to the darkside after already writing the opposite.

Imagine all the pissed off fans. You cannot just change something so drastically.

The next Star Wars Force unleashed proposes just exactly what would happen if Luke died.

I DO understand the importance of canon to the story of a game, but they can change. I hope they don't because I like it how it is, but that doesn't mean that they can't.

One of those work arounds is "what happened to Beta team?"

I couldn't give 2 -blam!-s about the dribble that Nylund wrote. If Bungie releases a game that overwrites what that hack did, then I will happily shelve the book for the game.

I thought that Nylund did an excellent job on the books, and Bungie themselves said they were canon, so they can't directly defy what he wrote.

Are you familiar with any of Blizzard's games? They retcon all the time and have as many, if not more fans. Then again, most of them are dribbling retards who just play, just like in Halo.

Halo has a very deep, and interesting story-line. Bungie has NEVER directly defied canon before, so don't expect them to start now. It isn't their style.

ehh...they've stated that newer stuff always overrides older stuff in their Canonical history. e.g. New mombasa being utterly destroyed -> new mombasa being hit by an EMP and all the windows breaking.

But I doubt they'll mess with anything that we've already seen, at least not much. I mean, they can hardly stop the crystal from being discovered, for example, without changing the course of the entire war.

It was still a Slipspace rupture. It just looks cooler in HD on Halo 3's engine.

They can easily do it. Its called a reboot. They own the IP, they can do what they want.

Whether that is a good thing is opinion. But the point is they have the option to change what they need to make a good game.

Because that book would not make a good game.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

I think this statement is pretty obvious. Bungie wants to approach this game, with complete creative freedom. They are not going to allow their game, their story to be completely defined by the FoR, or Fs novels. Thats not to say, this game is going to ignore canon. But right out of the gate, they are going to tell a story that runs parallel to the novels, but stars characters that they are completely free to do what ever they want with.

Seriously, I would be suprised if the game didn't feature Sentinels and Flood.

Beyond that, Bungie has reconned things in the past, they recon things behind the scenes, or to explain a recon within the canon. I.E Johnson Boren Syndrome immunity to the Flood.

You don't really understand how important the canon of a story is.
You don't seem to understand how religiously following canon built by someone who isn't used to the medium can damage an OP.
