I was thinking weapon modes could be a interesting addition to Halo. You would press up on the d-pad to switch firing modes. Here's a quick example.

Plasma Pistol
Special Properties: plasma charge
Fire Type: semi-automatic
Fire Rate: 5rps
Recoil: none
Lethality: headshots=5points bodyshots=3.75points
Clip Size: none
Ammo Capacity: 400 charge
Reload Time: none
Max Effective Range: 35 yards
Max Spread: none
Zoom: none
Blast Radius: none
Meele Bonus: none
Meele Speed: moderate
More Details: Hold right trigger for 3 seconds then release to fire a semi seeking blast of plasma doing 170 points of damage and using 20 charge. Press up on d-pad to switch to EMP charge. When in EMP charged shots will only do damage to shields, but they will also be able to disable most vehicles for 5 seconds. Plasma pistol only overheats after charged shots and has a 7 second cool down time.

Beam Rifle
Special Properties: beam charge
Fire Type: semi-automatic
Fire Rate: 1 round per 0.75 seconds
Recoil: medium
Lethality: headshots=150points bodyshots=75points
Clip Size: overheats after 2.25 seconds with a 5 second cool down time
Ammo Capacity: 60
Reload Time: none
Max Effective Range: 80 yards
Max Spread: none
Zoom: 5-10xs scope
Blast Radius: none
Meele Bonus: 3points
Meele Speed: moderate
More Details: Press up to switch to charged shots. When in charge mode it fires at 1rps, but you can hold down the right trigger for 3 seconds to charge it to do 200points damage. It then uses 15 charge per charged shot.

What do you think?

i think customizable weapons will make the game a much more interesting and varied gameplay that may make it a good game

It might slow down game play because people would always be stopping and changing firing modes.

You wouldn't have to stop right? And to the other guy it's not weapon customization just so you know because they would have 2 definate firing modes. All weapons wouldn't have another firing mode.

so like you would be able to switch an AR from fully automatic to a burst shot, or switch BR to a single, super accurate bullet?

I think it defeats the purpose of alot of weapons

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I am always a fan of secondary fire.

It doesn't even have to be that game changing,

like turning on the shotgun or ARs flashlight

Each weapon is tuned to have a specific purpose and role, and it's firing type and rate are taken into account. When you throw in adjustable types, all it does is throw off that balance.
