I think everyone has this question in the back of there minds. Personally, I think there will be Flood in Halo: Reach.

There are a few reasons for this.

1) There was Flood in Halo Wars, and Halo 1.
2) The Flood have supposedly been around since the forrunners times.
3) There are 7 Halo Rings. One is a breeding ground for Flood. That ring is the one that Master Cheif blew up in halo 1. If it hasn't been blown up yet, then the flood are still massing their huge armies.

Not very mant people know about the details in the story line of Reach. The fall of Reach could have not been as much associated with the covenant, because there might have been a small infection contributing. This is all a theory but who knows for sure. I have not read any halo books, so i'm limited to what i've gathered so far. But for all we know, the covanent could have brought a small Flood spore onto their ship and carried it to Reach, where it infected everyone. But the only way to find out, is to wait for the game to be released. But! opinions are what forums are for. So please, state your opinion.

Signatures are for squares.

Most likely no, the flood were unknown to the UNSC before Alpha Halo, since the crew from HaloWars never made it back to Human Controlled Space.

Also, There was no Gravemind on Alpha Halo, so they were just mindless killing things, they couldn't coordinate attacks.

Let me put it this way: if they announce that the Flood are in this game, they lose a sale.
Why?

I never sleep, 'cause sleep is the cousin of death.

Probably not. If they do, then it would be really cool to play as them.

I can tell you haven't read any books. The flood were all safely contained inside the halo rings up until the events of halo 1, and halo wars is a bunch of bull-blam!- that makes no sense and is completely seperate from everything that has ever happened in halo ever.

They were not only on Halo rings. Check out the Halo gas mines or containment facilities in Halo 2 and the Containment facilities on planets in Halo Wars.

Microsoft's carelessness was a colossal failure.
They failed to protect Halo 2,
When the great journey is upon us
Their heresy will stay their feet.
And they will be left behind.

We don't know that because the PoA was cut off from the rest of the UNSC in uncharted space. How would they have known if the Flood were encountered on Reach after they left?

Secondly, the Flood were earliest encountered by the humans, to the best of our knowledge, in 2531 (Halo Wars). All UNSC personnel who encountered them were subsequently lost in space and were thus not able to relay a warning.

It is possible for the Flood to be in Halo REACH depending on which direction Bungie takes the story. Are they going to reproduce the story told in the novel First Strike which would make for a poor game, or will we see a parallel point of view of the battle of Reach where lots of freedom is available to them in terms of what kinds of enemies we fight (Brutes, Drones, Flood, Sentinels, Rebels, etc.)?

I wouldnt mind Bungie going in a different direction to the novel but as far as i cn remember the only place that wasnt glasses on Reach was where Dr. Halsey and the other survvors were. The chancesof the Flood somehow being there and them not runing into them is slim. I just feel if the fllod make an appearance it will be hard to make a concievable explanation. Beides a Halo game with no Fllood isnt the end of the world. The battle at Reach was a huge event in the Human-Covenant war and theres enough scope within that to not need the Flood at all.

The Spartans in First Strike only explored a small portion of the Forerunner facilities, there were much more caverns, as noted by Halsey in Ghosts of Onyx.

If we play as a different Splinter Team of Spartans (FS was Alpha and Delta, REACH could be Beta and Gamma) to learn a new story, as the new call signs suggest, its possible that we explore a different part of the facility and encounter Flood, but the area is subsequently glassed before the Flood can escape the immediate vicinity.

Good point.... maybe Im just biased because i personally wouldnt agree with the Flood being there. It doesnt make sense to me how they werent discovered before even though Reach was colonised or why the flood would be kept inside a planet as well as on the Halo rings.

Regarding your atitude in this thread, I would like to point out that I do not read the books, because of one particular reason. I like to take interest in books not regarding halo, because I would like some variety in what i do.I recomend you have some variety in what you do aswell. Halo is great and you have the knolegde to make sense of this confusing timeline, so i congradulate you for that. But, there is a fine line between diversity, and obsesion. You are on that line, and you must chooce which way to cross. The obsesion, or the diversity. The choice is up to you. Either way won't alter whatever happens on the forums, but it will alter what you put on the forums. Thnx for sharing your thoughts, they are greatly apreciated. ;)

Dear god. The Flood were entirely unknown to everyone (except maybe the Covenant) until Captain Keys and his men discovered them on the mission 343 Guilty Spark on Halo: Combat Evolved.
