All great franchises eventually have to come to an end. Can't wait to see the next thing Bungie has got up it's sleeve though.

I doubt it will be the last of the Halo franchise. Microsoft will just get another company to do it. I'm interested to see the post-Halo Bungie though too.

Bungie also said to use the DAMN SEARCH BAR

  • 08.08.2009 5:38 PM PDT

Old News. BTW, would you think that Microsoft would give up on their best selling game?? Either Halo gets picked up by another MS company, or Bungie makes more Halo for next console, because Bungie said last Halo game for the 360...

Warning: You may find that my, or someone else's opinion does not comply with yours. Side effects of disagreement may include (but are not limited to): flaming, irrational behavior, broken keyboards, and/or nervous sweats. If you experience any of these symptoms refrain from communicating with others until the symptoms have subsided.

Let's face it, folks -- ten years is a long time to be working on a single franchise. That ten years could feel like a lot more when you're rarely on break, back in the development seat for another new Halo nearly every two years. Such is the tale for ex-Microsoft developer Bungie Studios, who told IGN UK at this week's San Diego Comic-Con, "After Reach that's it for us." Meaning that after next year's Halo: Reach ships to stores, Bungie is out of the alien killin', FPS genre -- at least those starring members of the UNSC, that is.

Though Bungie's Lars Bakken doesn't go into tons of detail about the studio's next game, he does say, "We're already working on a new IP that we can't talk about yet ... we've done a lot of different styles - first person to third person to RTS - so it could be anything." Eurogamer found out earlier in the day from Bakken that the upcoming game has yet to find a publisher, though Bungie is currently in talks with various companies and he says, "those talks are, I guess, close." Future Halo titles (you thought Reach was the last?) will be handled by 343 Industries, the recently trademarked, Microsoft-owned studio.

We contacted Bungie for comment on Mr. Bakken's comments and were told, "While it's great to see so much public interest over what the future holds for Bungie, we're not ready to talk about any plans or games beyond Halo 3: ODST or Halo: Reach. It's no secret that we've had multiple projects in development nor that we've also been working on original IP in tandem to our Halo titles but our focus right now is on our two upcoming releases. We'll have more to say when the time is right."

Did anyone actually read the article. ^ For those who can't click links.

Bungie is like Hideo Kojima, they both claim that the next game will be their last but they always come back.

Bungie said it was there last Halo game on the 360 so that means there's probably gonna be others on PC and future MS consoles and besides this is the 100th thread on this subject

  • 08.08.2009 6:15 PM PDT

... wow seriously! if u have any bungie members on your friends list like me you would know that its not the last game!!

UnitedBands.net

My band and artist networking/information site. Check it out!

they should keep the halo world a live, but they also need to develop new games as well.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Hmmmm, Call of Duty, seems like that puppy will never end!
SAW (The movie franchise), didn't that guy like die twice now?

Your article is incorrect. I saw the interview with Lars Bakken and he says, "We are done with it for now" (Or something along those lines)

Which means yes, they don't have any plans to do another Halo game, but who knows, if thier new IP doesn't do aswell, they may in a couple of years go back to Halo. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft askes them to do another Halo game for the next generation Xbox.

Microsoft knows what kind of fanbase comes along with a Bungie-made-Halo-game. They know they can't have other developers be as successful as Bungie in making Halo games. They tried (Halo Wars) and failed!

Halo Wars didn't do as good as any other Bungie made Halo game. The main driving point for it, and why most copies were sold, was probably because of the early release of the mythic map pack that came along with it.

So, there are numerous factors into whether Bungie will make another Halo game or not. (Excluding Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach, Obviously) Anytime soon? I highly highly doubt that. Maybe on the next Xbox console? Probable.

But factors like how well the sales in 343 industries is going, and how well Bungie is doing without Halo come into play.

No.

You guys like to misread things....

Bungie said ODST was going to be their last major Halo 3 add on. After ODST there will be no more map packs and only minor updates.

Bungie's selling the IP to 343 industries, a company made mostly of ex Bungie employees.

:3

Then agian.....

The Halo 3 ending DID leave a lot of opening for a fourth installment. Reach isn't really a sequal because its a prequal to the first one I think. I think a Halo 4 would be a really good addition to the series.

Even if its not another game, there will be something to tie up all the loose ends of the Universe together, be it a book or whatever.

I'm happy for the new IP. Bungie will probably make it 10x more awesome than the Halo franchise was.
