While I more definately see this possible as a campaign mission with a twist, I'd really like to see some multiplayer dog fights. The way I think this could work is, being as multiplayer is non-cannon, we have two UNSC or two Covenant battleships in space, while you see Reach in the distant background. You spawn in the ship. There are five ships in the hangar. To get into a ship you must walk over to it, and hold RB or as I would B and you request a ship. You get into it and fly out. Another instantly respawns. The reason this would work is I was thinking of a huge pentagon shaped of more effective versus less effectiveness of ships. Read it like this.
Ship A is much better than ship B. It is also slightly better than ship C.
Ship B is much better than ship C. It is also slightly better than ship D.
Ship C is much better than ship D. It is also slightly better than ship E.
Ship D is much better than ship E. It is also slightly better than ship A.
Ship E is much better than ship A. It is also slightly better than ship B.
Now how this would exactly show, oh, this ship is better than this one, I'm working out. Perhaps a damage bonus. But you might ask me now, "Why not use a triangle, they are more popular and easier to memorise?" Well this style gives you more choices. and enemy could not totally protect their butts by just all of a sudden switching a style of ship, seeing as most triangle games work in such a way. You could have a 20% of each type to be rounded, or you could go 100% teamates in one type for a huge rush. Wanna cover your back in a rush? Send 70% of your teamates in Ship A for a rush, send 20% Ship D for protection, and 10% ship C for incase they have a defence to Ship D, but it could still protect Ship A as it also attacks ship E, even if not as much. This style is much more flexible and allows for a much more interesting game.
Now about how to count scoring and prevent camping. I was thinking the two bases could spawn a distance from each other, but not too far for a travel before any battles. It could work as a slayer, read: Covenant Dogfight Slayer or UNSC Dogfight Slayer. I'd just say dogfight slayer, but unless Bungie worked really hard on it, UNSC vs Covenant could be very unbalanced, unless it was just different skin colors, not even different shaped ships. Score could be standard slayer counting, and to prevent camping the base, firstly a shield door to prevent players from getting into and out of the main bases, and AA guns on each Battleship that are indestructable. They have excellent accuracy and damage that any player could kill any ship close to the base in about 5 seconds if they didn't get out fast. Only reason this would work is that the range would be as long as the range of the most accurate ship while still worth shooting, making it impossible to camp, but useless if the enemy stays nearer to 3/4 of the map. The respawn in hangar would also solve the problem of enemies getting free kills on AFK players.
If anyone would like to try something like this first, a very succesful BF2142 Mod, which name I cannot remember because my computer had broken and I couldn't play it, had this style of gameplay. It was VERY succesful from what I hear.
I'd really like to see a huge dogfight using Halo Vehicles on the XBox. I think it is highly possible. Obviously if you went too low or too high it would warn you and eventually you would just die. I think space battle is an important part of the Halo Universe we are totally missing out on. I think it could be awesome. But what do you think? Please comment and give ideas and suggestions.
