Halo 3: ODST Forum
This topic has moved here: Subject: the truth about ODST

Subject: the truth about ODST

here is a list of how it will all pan out(in order) and my thoughts about it.

1: people are hyped for the game, however not as much people there should be because it is only a campaign and co-op mode with nothing new to add to multiplayer and very little added to maps.
MY THOUGHTS ON THAT: this game should be only $30 because it does not have everything a regular game would. I have even heard that halo 3's online will be able to link up with the ODST online.(herd from a friend and confirmed by an employee of gamestop) Also we are in a world wide recession and bungie could get some good credit/brownie points if they said "hey it's not like were giving yu a full game so here is a discount".

2: people buy the game beat in in less than a day realize it was a waste of money and return it only to get like $25 back.
MY THOUGHTS ON THAT: i will NOT be doing that, i don't have extremely high hopes for the game so I doubt i will be disappointed and i plan on enjoying the game for a long time. and i will never trade it in.

3: People will realize that they are not guaranteed the beta for reach and get really mad and spam the forums with complaints
MY THOUGHTS ON THAT: i might participate in some of those forums(i am doing so now) but it's not like anything will come from it

In conclusion: many people will be disappointed with this game and some will call it a "flop", i believe because of this there will be something amazing/new/different in REACH. i have no idea but what ever it is it will attract many people and convince them even if they didn't like ODST they will still love this and even pre order it.

PS. if you reply to this can you make it not just garbage like "this is just another noob complaining" or something stupid like that. Please reply with an argument or disagreement that is actually good and thought out with evidence supporting your side.... who am i kidding ur not going to do that. and for those of you who actually read all this and don't understand my side here it is flat out

I am a halo fanboy I absolutely love all the halos and believe it has the best and most replay value out of all games and best multiplayer. It is because of this that i will buy this game. this topic is basically me just complaining about the price. and yes i know i can't do anything about it but i feel like ranting about it so =p

Hey guess what!? I play CoD more than Halo, but I'm not an annoying fanboy. I love CoD more, but I like how involved the Halo Community is...

Actually you are guaranteed Reach as long as you have ur odst disk to access it.

  • 08.08.2009 2:42 PM PDT

I don't agree with the price either, but you are about to get flamed by people who absolutely LOVE the price. Be prepared...

Posting on bungie.net should require that the user has had to have read a chapter book all the way through.

It seams like everyone who is an elite just complains about everything.

Really?

ODST will be great.

MICROSOFT sets the price not bungie.

For:

25 dollar campaign
15 dollar firefight
10 dollar maps
10 dollar repackaged content you may or may not have, but it's a damn good deal
+ free Reach demo

Or, if you want to look at it through the view of someone even more sensible: Manufacturing costs.

As a great man has said before "..." That is where the truth lies my friends

A discount because they're not making a 'full game' Well if you can remember back to when games weren't made with a multiplayer mode, or hell there are some today that don't have a Multiplayer Mode, (Fallout 3, Mass Effect.) Plus ODST has Firefight, is that not multiplayer? On the Price, I don't mind that it's sixty dollars, but I would prefer it to be lower as the promised that it would be, but then again no Developers get to Decide the price for their Product.

$20 for Campaign, $10 for Firefight, $10 for 3 brand new maps, $10 for Mythic Map Pack and $10 for Legendary map Pack.

The content is optimized for those who don't have DLC or do not have access to Xbox LIVE. ODST has enough content to warrant $60.

Oh, and Microsoft priced ODST. If you're mad, get mad at them. Every copy of ODST allows you to play the Halo: Reach beta.

1. have you played other games?....

x-men origins wolverine, mirrors edge, and the force unleashed were all $60 and the only thing they had was campaign, who said games need matchmaking?... the majority of games have none, Halo: CE was sold at full price and all it had was a campaign and multiplayer, guess what... that's what ODST has, neither have matchmaking, so why shouldn't ODST be full price?

2. i beat halo 3 in 9 hours... was i dissapointed?... no

3. well to bad for them, usually i do research on a product before i buy it.

4. stop complaining, I DON'T CARE!!! if you don't want to buy it.

Duracell.
I don't keep going and going and going and...
but i Start, and just don't Stop.

So what if the saxophone is black?
it has better tone the the gold one.
damn straight i play Jazz.

actually it's a full game now:

just an FYI it isn't a 5 hour campaign any more. as they said 1 hour per mission and about half an hour between each mission to reach the different way points(Joe Staten said this in the play through of the first mission, it's why he used that teleport 'cheat')

**also i did not include the time it would take to get the audio logs etc as this is extra content not critical to the story. this is a bare minimum calculation**

Now lets do some fairly simple math.

-There are 6 missions if the leaked achievements are to be believed.
-That means 6 one hour missions.
-6 x 1 = 6
-That means there is 6 hours in missions alone. Lets store that number away in our head and -move to the next part of our game length calculations.

-if there are 6 missions that means you need to travel to all 6, Correct? that means there are 6 times you need to travel to a new location, (travel to point one, travel to point 2, travel to point 3, travel, to point 4, travel to point 5, and travel to point 6. That's Six travel times)
-now we were told in the mission walk through by Jo Staten that it's about half an hour to walk to a target point when he used his teleport cheat.
-6Travel times of half an hour each
-6 x 0.5 = 3
-this means that that there is about 3 hours of just running to your objectives alone.
-now to move to the final part of our calculations here

-taking that first number we got from the beginning of ODST's development and the leaked achievements and adding them to the travel time result we get:
-6 hours of missions plus the 3 hours of travel time
-6 + 3 = 9
-This means there is about 9 hours of campaign.

Also note this calculation does not include the "final mission" Bungie has alluded to as it has not been directly confirmed to my knowledge.

This number of 9 hours of campaign is the equivalent of an average FULL game these days.
this with alone by game marketing standards warrants a $60 price tag.

The things people argue that you need for a full price game, often are not included in a campaign oriented game.

A full price title does not need:
-Match Making
-Multiplayer of any form(such as co-op/ split screen)
-a second game mode
Please note that with these features included in a large title often increases the price of the game by $10

A full game must include
-A single player campaign totalling a minimum of 6 hour average playtime OR a fully Multiplayer game(unknown standard)
-1000GS (Xbox 360)

Now ODST fits the Retail Requirements of a full game:
-9+hour campaign(larger than 6 hours)
-1000 independent GS(not related to Halo 3 GS in any way there is 750 GS also available on the Halo 3 multiplayer)
This here in the marketing world Labels ODST as a Full Retail game and is being Priced at $60 like any other full retail game.

As well ODST has:
-A second game mode
-Multiplayer Co-op
Please note that with these features included in a large title often increases the price of the game by $10. In ODST it does not.

So in the end is ODST worth $60?
-By marketing standards YES
-By your standards? Read the above and answer your self reasonably and truthfully. Then ask if it is just your disappointment in it now fitting the above requirements and hence being more expensive than you planned, or are you truly being ripped off? again answer yourself tuthfully.

As Gameinformer said in the ODST anouncing the said it is mostly going to be a 30 or 40 dallar game.now its 59.99 and 99.99

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

A) You're just another complainer about the price.
B) This game is worth at least... $70.
C) Who cares about the Beta/ We still get to play the game in another year.

  • 08.08.2009 4:17 PM PDT

Hey Bob, what are those things jumping across the rooftops like majestic warriors dressed as Spartans with their heads on fire?

Oh, that's just the Bungie ninjas. Mess with them and they'll bring a hammer down on your head that's so big, they have to keep it on Jupiter 'cause it won't fit on Earth.

New, OPEN WORLD, campaign, Firefight mode, all the map packs and some new maps ON A DISC, no more taking up a bunch of space I could be using for something else. The Reach beta IS GUARANTEED WITH PURCHASE OF ODST. Saying that it's not is just stupid. Like, legit, get yourself tested, stupid. The price is reasonable, considering you are:
1} Getting all the map packs on a disc
2) A whole new game mode altogether, Firefight
3) A GIANT CITY TO ROAM AROUND IN
4) New weapons
5) Some new gameplay mechanics (uh...how about you're not a Spartan anymore)
6) Completely new plot
7) Different characters
8)You get to test Reach before it comes out to the general public.
The list could go on, and on, and on...There are also other new things that I'm sure they are keeping hidden until the game is actually released.

I think I have made my point.

  • 08.08.2009 4:28 PM PDT

Hush. If you’re quiet enough, you can hear it on lips of unborn babes.

So either you've been living under a rock for the past year or you are just an all-around idiot.

1: people are hyped for the game, however not as much people there should be because it is only a campaign and co-op mode with nothing new to add to multiplayer and very little added to maps.
MY THOUGHTS ON THAT: this game should be only $30 because it does not have everything a regular game would. I have even heard that halo 3's online will be able to link up with the ODST online.(herd from a friend and confirmed by an employee of gamestop) .

Since you obviously haven't heard, ODST actually has a brand new co-op multiplayer mode called Firefight where you fight waves of enemies until you are defeated. With Firefight mode comes a whole new set of maps to play on (only for Firefight, not H3's multiplayer.) ODST's second disc basically contains everything from the original Halo 3 except for the Campaign. This disc is titled Halo 3 Mythic. It also comes with every map ever made for Halo 3 including the other half of the Mythic Map Pack (Longshore, Citadel, and Heretic.) To me, all this seems like a bargain at $60.

How do you know this is what they'll do? Oh, wait, you don't and you're just talking out of your ass.

3: People will realize that they are not guaranteed the beta for reach and get really mad and spam the forums with complaints
MY THOUGHTS ON THAT: i might participate in some of those forums(i am doing so now) but it's not like anything will come from it

Let's not forget that ODST comes with a GUARANTEED invitation to the Halo:Reach Beta.

Also we are in a world wide recession and bungie could get some good credit/brownie points if they said "hey it's not like were giving yu a full game so here is a discount"

As if they need the "brownie points".....Bungie could make remake their remake of Pong, a very simple game, and because people know Bungie created the Halo franchise, people would flock to this "new" game simply because the guys who made Master Chief made this new Pong game. Then they'd probably complain about that game as well.

  • 08.08.2009 4:33 PM PDT

Discount? No discount. Microsoft sets the prices for ALL Xbox 360 games, not Bungie. People can't beat it in one day. Obviously only few people will complete the game on the first day, it's a 4-6 Campaign, plus the 1000G of achievements, I heavily doubt that a lot of people will get all Achievements and beat the Campaign in 1 day.

Lies! You are not a halo fanboy. Fanboys don't diss the game or series they are a fan off. Also, thats your opinion and your entitled to it, I on the other hand and ready for it to be single player only. I love ODSTs, I love the single player in the Halo series and I love playing Co-op. I also love playing horde in Gears of Wear and Firefight is just the much more badass version of horde with halo characters and enemies. Also I'm a achievement whore so I'll be playing the game till I get all the achievements.

There are some games that only include single player and are still priced at $60. Be glad that this game includes Firefight, and 3 extra multiplayer maps for Halo 3 (Plus all the other map packs in case you haven't bought them already.)
