Subject: I put a lot of thought into this idea.

There is a certain point of tolerance that should never be reached.

Ok, first off, remember to be nice and not hurt peoples feel feels. We need those or else we are nothing more than ROBOTS!!!!!eleven!!!!!oneoneone!!!111!!!

This is simply an idea, not a request , it isn't a " IWANT2HAZFUTUR3H@L0ZLIEKTHIS ", it is an idea. As long as you keep this in mind when you are writing your response than there will be no issues. Use reason in this thread people.

Anyhow.

As I said: Be respectful.

I have been living on the ODST forums for a bit, and it has been nice. I have read a bunch of good ideas, bad ideas, and ... Ideas that were so incoherent that my mind started melting and leaking out of my nose.

Hopefully, this idea won't fall under that last category.

Being an ODST is awesome. I felt like I was witnessing a Halo Novel just by simple observation. The idea of an open world, combined with being slower and weaker makes me giddy. Combine that with the awesome enemies of the Halo universe and you have a great game. Halo 3: ODST pulls off a more realistic feel without changing too much.

Enough random talk.

Here is the idea.

I think that it would be cool if there was a game where you play as a Spartan III (yes 3) In SPI armor. The game would focus on a few surviving Spartan IIIs stranded on a Covenant controlled planet. The game would be open ended, have multiple endings, be free roam, and be just plain bad ass. The game would start off explaining the Spartan IIIs ( from GoO). The game would take place during the Human Covenant war and would have up to 4 player Co-Op. The game would begin slightly linear with a massive battle (Picture the beginning of Ghosts of Onyx) . Your squad of six would be in charge of a certain aspect of the mission. When you complete your mission the covenant glass all the Spartan IIIs on the planet (Some 300 Spartans) or so they think, 4 Spartans escape the plasma bombardment and go guerrilla on the Covenant plant. They squad is injured though and an ongoing side mission is repairing your armor to reactivate your ability to use the SPI Invisibility. The planet isn't an industrial planet and most of it is covered in exotic jungles , Deserts, Forests, and lakes. There is, however, a big city that has a huge covenant shipyard. The reason for this is because of the mineral rich system where the planet is located.

The Planet, which I will call Forsaken, was once Human controlled and when contact was lost, the worse was assumed, seeing as the colony was low population and an outer colony at that, it was deemed not worth the ships to defend and more or less forgotten about, until a scout behind enemy lines found that the planet was not glassed. Instead, Forsaken had been converted into a covenant Shipyard. This may have been due to the Forerunner ruins. When ONI realized the threat of a covenant mining facility/ Shipyard INSIDE of UNSC Space, they sent The Spartan IIIs. Their Mission: Destroy the Main City on Forsaken, disrupt all production, and deny the enemy such a valuable piece of real estate.

The game world would feature:
Day/Night cycle
Interaction on a much greater scale than any other Halo game.
Geo Mod 2.0 (See RFG) for uber destruction.
A ruined Human city.
Three Covenant Cities.
A dessert, Forest, Jungle, Mountains, and other natural places.
A Forerunner City where Sentinels roam.
Perhaps a Quarantined Flood outbreak place (As the planet is actually artificial and holds flood specimens) Where the Flood Battle Sentinels and Covenant.
Vehicles that you can use to drive around.
Small covenant outposts.
Random Human buildings scattered around the world map.
Other things that would be awesome.

The Spartans would find an old UNSC base hidden in the mountains. In the base you there is a Rampant AI that you can (as a series of side missions) eventually have help you out and revel more intel on the Covenant , The humans, and the story itself.

The game would feature an ability to plan raids on Covenant cities, outposts, armories and any other points of interest.

You could mod your weapons with gear to help your mission ( A silencer for stealth missions, A night vision scope for night fights, ect.) There would only be checkpoints in the set missions and when not in a mission, you could save at any time.

During the whole game, the objective would be to destroy the shipyard, and get off of Forsaken. The methods of doing this can vary and will lead to various endings ( on would be the Spartans unable to get off of the planet and remaining on the planet until help arrives... whenever that is, (This will most likely be the canonical ending).

One such way would be the detonation of a nuke in the Covenant city of Mecca (the name I have given to the largest city in the game)
How the Spartans get the nuke would also vary.

The games online mode could perhaps be MMO or a variety of other things.

Anyhow, this was just some crazy idea that I was thinking of, and I thought the Halo Community would benefit from it.

Keep this alive guys, we need good ideas to discuss.

"Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame. They will lead you to war, and perhaps, to victory."

Awesome Idea! In my opinion, this is the kind of game that needs to be made for the Halo franchise. The ability to go at your own pace, and plan things out makes it feel more realistic.
A question: The UNSC base that you find; Do you repair it slightly and use it as a base of operations?
Now you've got me excited for a game like this to be made. Really cool idea!

In the Halo Novels, Spartans use gear with their Weapons all the time.
But yeah, I don't want a Call of Duty Halo.

The mods for the guns would have to be simple, and make people naturally mod their gun a certain way for a certain mission.

I guess the Sniper could be Silenced with a NV Scope though...

Thought Reach was confirmed as a FPS.

Which one? The COVENANT have so many species and races, that it would be hard to get to each...

Yes! Yes you do!

As you raid the Human City Ruins you find stuff such as Generators, and other general repair items that can restore certain functions to the base. Such as an ability to repair your warthog, or make a Pelican to transport your Spartans around the world.

Also, Raids would be conducted to stock the base with Ammo, Provisions, and other things.
All these things would be done at the players own pace.

If Reach is a Free Roam, Open ended, World where you are in enemy territory at all times, and the object of the game is to escape, than yes.

Why does this seem like Dynasty Warriors Empires?

In a sense like Mercenaries, in the way of Stockpiling weapons, vehicles, etc.

Pretty nice idea. I'd love to play as a spartan III.
Now all you need to do is found a game company and make it!

Maybe the concept is the same, but this game would execute that idea a hundred times better, and immerse the player in a world where they truly feel a part of. Of course this is all just a fun fantasy as this game would be damned near impossible to make.

Funny that you said that, because when was typing out the idea of stockpiling things I was thinking Mercs 2.

Well the thing is, There is no reinforcements. There are just 4 Spartan IIIs at first.
Some might die, you might find more Surviving Spartan IIIs.

It depends on how the player(s) go through the game, Also remember that in Co-Op the entire game will change as more players can do more things. ( Think on player snipes on a city tower while the other raids)

Actually, with the ODST game and Free Roam FPS, it would need to be overview for deciding missions and areas to travel to... combat and exploring would be FP. It would be nice, if it still didn't seem so much like Dynasty Warriors.

Glad I am not the only person who wants a living Halo game that isn't so straight forward.
^^

The cool part of this Idea is that even this large of an engagement could be contained if the Spartan IIIs Don't make it back (or don't make it back before the end of the UNSC-Covie war

With the right interactions, yeah, I suppose that it could work, but this is just pure fun of speculation. I doubt we will ever see a Halo game like this.

I do see The dynasty Warriors kind of.
But there wouldn't be a taking back Forsaken, There are only a few Spartan IIIs.
The game would be about surviving, Taking the fight to the enemy, and eventually getting out alive. Not holding all of China.

Well, China is supposed to become a desert eventually, according to the Discovery Channel, so Desert Camo would be hard to continusly support and an outpost would be hard to hold. EVAC ASAP would be recommended... However, holding on other planets, would cause other problems.... like hosbitible air, or conditions for humans to surive. All these things must be taken into account when making a game... if the Game took place on Earth with the SIIIs we'd be glassed and all die.
