When a troll posts, the natural reaction from many members is to knock up a post that reads something like 'Stop feeding the troll; Dont feed the troll; Dont spam etc.' Of course, the great pardox is that by posting things like this, they are feeding the troll themselves.

Never forget the most powerful tool you have - Ignorance. It has been said many times before, but what the hell. You can hear it again.

Dont think that by posting your hatred for spammers/trolls you are helping the forum. You are giving them a reason for existence.

(The paradox of the paradox of course is that this thread could be seen as example of exactly what I have detailed above.)

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Yeah. I would just do nothing. Just report them. That's all you can do.

I find it is often simpler to take a vacation from the site when periods of intense spamming and trollishness are occuring. Hence why I have not poked my ugly face around here in about a month. It can be entertaining, sometimes, to hear the trolls squeal when five or six good samaratan types shove warnings down their throats...

Yeah.....well, I don't come out of my groups, much, so if I'm gonna post in a thread, it'd be a thread that I want to post in...not spam and stuff...but, yes, it is true that saying "don't feed the troll" is really feeding the troll. I completely agree with basically everyone else, here.

It's nice to have some moderator's instant messangers so you can tell them about bad things immediately.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Whenever there is a troll. I don't just say "Don't feed the troll." I find this far more effective.

Do not feed the troll. This topic has been reported to a Mod and there is no reason to reply to it. Please carry on, there's nothing to see here..."

I remember just when the new hotness hit. Me and Rip-Saw would have flame wars with annoying people that thought they knew a lot. It wasn't right, but we ended up making fun of them so much that they just left the site. Those were the days, lol.

I think we're meant to ban people who respond to trolls as well as the trolls themselves.

That should stop people doing it.

Are you being serious?

This is in no way a pointless thread. Perhaps you would like to explain to everyone HOW it is pointless.

You are lucky you guys don't have an executive action register! You'd never get anything done for all the paperwork!

It's a thread in Body Politic where the admins are supposed to post if they do anything administrative-like. Or something. Ask Frag - it's his idea. Stop looking at me!

Yeah, it's just about making mod's actions more transparent. It's a good idea for a small chapter, but utterly unfeasible for use on the scale of the main forums; not without automation anyway.
