Sierra is the codeword for Spartan.

Example: Sierra 117=Spartan 117.

Sierra refers the Spartans call number. Its code language to confuse the enemy when they are using comms on the battle field.

Not true.

Sierra can be a military callsign for a platoon, a pelican, anything. Not exclusive to spartan.

How is what I said untrue?

In context with the Halo universe, the term "Sierra" has been predominantly used to distinguish Spartans. Seeing as his question was asked specifically with the Reach trailer in mind -- where "Sierra" is, again, being used to indicate the presence of Spartans -- it seems in no way inaccurate.

I'm not, by any means, suggesting that "Sierra" is only ever used as a callsign for Spartans, but the OP's question wasn't about the various uses of the term. He wanted to know what it meant in context, which is what my response was.

If you're saying that what I said was untrue because Spartans haven't "officially" been confirmed, then that's a completely different story.
