and how!
Great. Another person who hasn't paid a hint of attention the past 6 months.
Halo 3: ODST is very different from all other Halo games because you play as an ODST, not a Spartan.
Because of that, you have much less advanced armor. Due to this, you do not have energy shields, nor do you have recharging health.
You have "recovering stamina" which at a simple outlook is similar to energy shielding, but more like a damage system like in [hate to make such a reference on a Halo forum] Call of Duty. As you take damage from enemy [or friendly] fire, your screen will get a red tinge on the outside. After taking a certain amount of hits, your health gets damaged directly.
When your health is damaged, you will not regenerate it unless you pick up a medkit. You are also given both a suppressed SMG and a suppressed Magnum, obviously to assist with stealth.
ODSTs need to be more careful about their battles. When you're alone, some are better dealt with by waiting for the enemy to pass and then moving on without opening fire.
However, as Mr.Sark said in an interview on X-Play, you can still play the game "Rambo style". You'll need to make more attempt to dodge enemy fire, but you can still charge head on and kick ass in outer space. [Reference to Marine on Delta Halo, I know you're on Earth]
More simply, as Joe Staten has put it; Halo 3: ODST is not a stealth game, nor is it a detective game.
It is a Halo game, with touches of stealth and deduction.
