Subject: An educated investigation into the banner silhouettes

Life is not a journey to the grave, with the intension of arriving safely.

working out whos who by height doesnt really work with this banner as you cant see their feet. whats to say some arent further away than others, or on a sloped durface. the center spartan looks further forward than the others to me. thus meaning you cant differenciate on height.

That's what I have stated already. Each of them is stood either closer or further away.

I think that you have misunderstood the point of these forums.
They are provided by Bungie for the community. They are here for us to communicate with each other. If/when Bungie employees decide to jump in, it is because they are fans too.
This isn't a think tank, feedback system, or suggestion box for Bungie. They've listened to their fan community, but they don't treat this site as a conduit to the "pulse of the people". And it certainly isn't the Oracle at Delphi for the fans.

John and Linda never fought on the surface of Reach (Nor James BTW) It is actually more likely that the silhouettes are NEW Spartans, from the second wave of Spartan IIs (likely still in-training and only combat prepped because of the Covenant invasion of Reach)

I posted this in an earlier thread. watch Ign theater rewind. they point out that the callsigns given, 259 is not from the first wave of spartan twos whih only go to 150. new waves of spartans never shown before. but this is just an advertisment picture, look at the first starwars poster. all those people did not appear at the same time.

According to sources the 2nd wave never happened, but this is yet to be confirmed as canon.

Just because Mendez didn't train them, doesn't mean there aren't any. Who knows, Mendez might have trained them, and said he was in active duty as a cover up. ONI could have given him a purple heart and the other medals to support this.

  • 08.12.2009 4:32 AM PDT

True, very true. With ONI nothing is certain. Anything connected with them has to be taken with a fistful of salt.

Much better than that other thread on this. Great job

Another piece of evidence that could point towards Will as the Spartan on the left is the lack of a description for his physical features.

Most of the major characters that feature in the novels are described in great detail - height, stance, facial features, nature etc... But Will lacks anything as detailed as the other Spartans even though he's featured in a lot of the action since the first book (FOR). This means Bungie have a lot of creative room to play with and can go out of their way to make all of the Spartans in the game look very different.

Another reason is that he is a regular character. Since Reach fell, Will has played quite a major role when compared to some other Spartans and is often found alongside Fred, Kelly and Linda - our other Spartan choices for the banner.

A third reason is that his death comes quite late on in the trilogy - towards the end of Halo 2. This means that it could be possible to use him in a follow up game to Reach if one is ever created. If not then he will still play a major role in Reach as he did in the FOR and First Strike by Eric Nylund.

I spread my BR like butter on bread

Actually the young Spartans used the body suit before they got their MJOLNIR armor so possibly we could be playing as the Spartans in segments before their first Contact with the Covenant. Also maybe we will see the Halo 3 armor varients be used by some of them (Dare uses Recon, so possibly more permutations are being used)

Heres the bdy suit link on Halopedia

But Lindas helmet looks like an ODST's helmet tho...

Just enjoy the damn game!
Who cares about BR vs AR

Is there any chance that they could be the Mysterious Black Team that an upcoming comic is going to be about, with the 5th member being the AI? The one everyone says is Kelly? Or am I just wrong?

  • 08.12.2009 7:47 AM PDT

No, I think we'll be seeing johns old team for the very first time

  • 08.13.2009 9:51 AM PDT

Nice. I like how you explained it better than that stickied thread over on the right. EDIT #3 and I still feel like parts of it are kinda stupid.

My beat downs turn into burns.

2 things. First It could have be the events before reach too. So sam could be in there but still it does sound more likely to be will. Second Kelly was a foot taller than John not the other way around but yet I still do agree it is Kelly

Kelly was the taller of the two at first but then John outgrew her by a full head. Fact.

Keep this thread going people! He's mostly right.

As you progress throughout your life you realize that the older you get the closer your are to death, the only thing you cannot change.

This theory is actually really good, it in all god honesty makes sense, and it is new in one of the ideas, although the evidence is not all new to the forum it is good and you know just when to say it to make sense.
This theory if thought through, and despite that it probaly is Will, it could still be Sam, but not as likely as it would be Will.
If Sam is the character in the banner then that could mean you would be playing an earlier Spartan mission, and they would know how to do unshielded armor from ODST.
Bravo.

John's close friendship may even be touched upon in the game, but I don't believe we'll be able to play as Sam at all. I think the majority of the missions will involve us as full blown Spartans.

I think the game will take place over the time before and after John made it to Halo, destroyed it, and came back. Personally I don't think there is enough content (in the books, that is) to make an entire game based on the events before John goes to Halo. I think they'd want to do the whole thing, up until they find the crystal and escape.

Sam: Died before the battle at Reach but considered to be one of the most important Spartans seeing as how he essentially sacrificed his own life to ensure that of his friends, and was the closest thing to a best friend that John had. Also he was the first to die in combat. He may not have been around at the time of Reach and all that but he's still an important character so how is it unlikely that this prequel will take us back further than Reach and show us a lot of past events?

Kelly: The fastest spartan around. End of discussion. Able to run up to something like 40 MPH and another close friend of Johns. I remember reading that her nickname was "Rabbit" or something along those lines because they would use her to bait the covenant. She would rush in and lure them out, and then the team would ambush the covenant.

John: He did actually fight on Reach despite popular belief. He just wasn't there upon the initial covenant assault.

Fred: A fondness for his knife and about the same height as John. Similar to John in a lot of ways actually, but showed great deals of empathy for wounded teammates which was seen as a drawback. He was far less faceless than John, but still had excellent leadership skills much like our Chief. I can't remember how he died.

Linda: Considered by John to be the strongest spartan seeing as how she was the lone wolf of the team. John thought that this was a strength since she didn't even need a team in order to survive. She was mortally wounded but did escape Reach aboard the Pillar of Autumn with the Chief and Cortana. If I recall she did actually die but was revived later on... Or maybe that was Kelly... I forget...

so that might mean we play as MC.

  • 08.15.2009 11:43 AM PDT

Or they could just be marines. Everyone just assumes they are spartans.
