Here's a list of 10 teen games (in no particular order) that are more "offensive" than Halo 3.

1) Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
2) Fight Night Round 4
3} Street Fighter 4
4) Almost every hunting game out there...
5) inFamous
6) UFC 2009 Undisputed
7) DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION
8) X-Men Origins: Wolverine
9) DYNASTY WARRIORS: Strikeforce
10) Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. (It's a stretch, but I needed 10...)

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is rated M...
Well, not according to ESRB.com... Let me check that.

EDIT: It's T for the PS2 and Wii...

but M for the 360

you know other than wolverine and rainbow six(both are mature games) i think halo is alot darker of a story than all the others you listed. ODST needs to be rated M
Darker?

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I don't really care, since the ratings don't matter anyway. There is no enforcement on the rating system in the US, and even if a store doesn't sell to youngins they cry to their parents to buy it for them.

And most of the parents do.

My friend worked at Gamestop, and this 9 year old wanted Doom 3. (You can tell where this is going). So the child got his mom to buy it for her, and when they were checking out, my friend explicitly told her that the game was very violent, gory, and bloody, and probably shouldn't be bought for her child.

The mom ignored these comments, bought the game, and left.

The next day, she came in raving about how an employee had sold her child the most violent bloody gruesome game ever invented, without warning her.

more in depth more mature story basis. as bungie put it it's 'film noir' really Halo just feels more mature. they rate it such because of the blood, the constant violence, the language and the Mature subject matter in the story. we're talking a story that revolves around mass Xenocide.(genocide of alien races) and Genocide. it's a dark and mature subject

So you are saying that the ESRB is rating Halo 3 for it's storyline? I don't think that's the case.

It's odd, I know.

Considering Battlefield: Bad Company(for example) has much stronger language than this game. I think the sole reason this game is rated M is because it's linked to halo 3 by name, and contains part of halo 3 in it.

Should we complain to the ESRB on this?

I'm 14. It's not like I can't handle Gore in games. Actually, I'm opposed to excess of gore, like in gears of War/L4D2. It's unneeded. The notion violence in games will make me an insane killer are outrageous.

well yes it is rated based on story as this is part of the content. and ODST is based on Genocide. and the blood involved is enough for the ESRB to rate it M

i disagree, bad company is based on a light hearted premise in a satircal representation of war. halo deals with more mature issuess

Marine: "Dear Sarge, kicking as* in outer space, wish you were here."

Johnson: "I heard that, jackas*!"

That quote is from Halo 2. If there's anything like that in it I suppose it should be rated M.

Ass isn't really much of a swear word. Sure, it's still classed as bad language but it's not as bad as dropping the F bomb. ODST is likely to have the F word mentioned a few times, which is probably why it's still rated M.

The ESRB rarely rates on storyline.

In Bad company, Soldiers will constantly curse "-blam!-, -blam!-, GOODAMN GET DOWN, HAGGARD"

While the worst of Halo is "OW! You bastards!"

um... both Rainbow six and Wolverine are rated M on the xbox

Halo 3 ODST fits the guidlines for a M rated game. it's not the gore that did it for halo, it was frankly the fact there is blood. blood = M these days

He's right. I remember have a Tony Hawk game when I was like 5, and everytime you messed up a trick, tthere would be blood. it was rated M.

Not to be a dick, but it's ranting. Ranting is what she did. Raving is what we do about ODST, positive things to say.

As for your post...wow. What a jerk. I can just picture it too. Heheh. And fortunately, any mother of a 9 year old can know that the game she bought for him isn't full of excess gore like some games *cough*Gears of War*cough*. But it does have Language, minor Innuendo, and Violence. Not to mention the purple and orange blood of the Covenant. But at least it's not like Halo 1 where you could paint an entire area with the blood of 1 dead Grunt.

Me too. That and:

Cortana: "The message just repeats. Regret. Regret. Regret."
Keyes: "Catchy. Any idea what it means?"
Johnson: "Dear Humanity, we regret being alien bastards, we regret coming to Earth, and we most definately regret that the corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!"
Pilot Marines: "Hoo-rah!"

Cortana: "Regret is a name, Sergeant. The name of one of the Covenant's religious leaders - a prophet. He's on that carrier. And he's calling for help."

That was actually quite fun. Me and my friend must've spent hours giving the Silent Cartographer a new paint job with dead Grunts. I miss doing that.

it's not just one aspect. the story is just one, combined with the blood, attempt an realism, and the language combine to make an M rated game.

Bad company is satirical and light hearted in comparison, i think both are on the line, with a little more Bad company would be a M game, just a little less ODST would be a T rated game

It's probably the Sci-fi part of it. I dunno, I still think Halo without flood is really mild.

  • 08.10.2009 3:21 PM PDT

Obey your Master, MASTER!!!!!!!

i think the M rating is a good thing it keeps the little kids that get on your nerves off the game.

  • 08.10.2009 3:23 PM PDT

I was in 5th grade. I popped in the Halo CE disc into the massive, clunky first generation Microsoft Xbox, and wrapped my small hands around the controller that was almost too big for me. Little did I know what I was getting into.

10+ years later, I still look up to my childhood hero, Master Chief, while everyone talks about He Man and Spongebob haha

Live life son. www.youtube.com/user/MadeInAsiaFilms

We should be able to paint the areas with the blood of dead aliens, like CE then.
