microsoft will face a riot if halo 2 was ever shutdown. halo 2 should never be shutdown for any reason. besides having 100+ friends is unnecessary, only a hassle.
I really hope you're joking.

100 friends is more then enough. Need room??? Remove somebody. Halo 2 should never get shut down unless everybody stops playing it.

I think having more than a 100 would be easier than having to sift through Friend's Friend list.
but why is Halo 2 the only reason? are there not other Xbox1 games that are causing this?

I say no! I have Halo 3, but I still like to play Halo 2 from time to time.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Star Wars battlefront ii, right below halo 2, and it still has a online community. Only problem is the dlc maps are 5 dollars (NOT FREE LIKE HALO 2) and you cant get them if you dont have a credit card.

And also, halo 2 has over 10000 players a day so it is not going to be dumped like last years MADDEN.

No. Who needs more than 100 friends? I was just about to get the xbox version of this game (I have the PC version), but I guess I won't.

Never give up, never surrender!

Their is another thread in the Halo 2 forum saying that it is happening with a link to prove it.
I don't know how to link you to it but it's on the first page of the Halo 2 forum.
Can one of you guys confirm that what the link says is legit please ..

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

i hope its not true what that article said about ms shutting down halo 2 servers just so that people can have 100+ friends on their friends list. if it is true then its gonna be a sad day indeed. dam you microsoft.

I am an avid gamer with a passion to keep games fun and strategy provoking, rather than simply button mashing instant-reward games that plague the market nowadays. I'm not kind, but I'm rational, fair, and maybe, just maybe, somewhat intelligent.

The problem is that 10,000 people are ruining a possible experience for millions of people.

As
Spock said at the end of Star Trek II, "The need of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

They're not needs in this case, but you get my point.

yes we need more friends

Look, I know dorks like you are the hottest -blam!- on XBL, but you don't need 100+ friends. You need to work on forming REAL social relationships. You're like that sad person on MyFace who needs ten thousand friends so you can feel popular, aren't you? You need help.
I like how you make assumptions. Clearly, he isn't the one that needs help; you are. Like, with your logic.

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

100+ friends is totally unnecessary

Halo 2 cannot be shut off due to this crap. Just leave Halo 2 to the hardcore fans who still play and not let it be destroyed by kids/morons who want 100 Friends on their STUPID FRIENDS LIST.

STUPID FRIENDS LIST.
The friends list is stupid? It's the very foundation of the XBL experience. WTF are you talking about?

You people are ridiculous.

Who the hell honestly actually plays with over 100 people?

I have just over 50 and I only play with about 10 of them!!

  • 08.14.2009 10:01 AM PDT

There will be a reason why they shutting it down i think the reason is because its an old game not many people play it now when odst comes out less people will play halo 3

  • 08.14.2009 10:07 AM PDT

We're building a better world...all of them, better worlds.

I think they should upgrade Xbox Live rather than do this. Whatever the limitation is, there's a workaround they could implement. I'm sure of it. Or, segregate the old Xbox Live from the new Xbox Live. Even if that meant players playing Halo 2 couldn't see players on other games.

IMO, this makes no sense. I don't play Halo 2, well, ever, but I know a lot of people still do.

To be optimistic, though, absence makes the heart grow fonder or something. A few short years from now, I bet MS will bring it back as a XBLA game. You'll have to buy it again, of course. This is Microsoft we're talking about. But I don't think Halo 2 will disappear forever.

Anyone know if you can play Halo 2 over Xbox Connect? That's another possibility: Independent online support.

It's really pathetic for Microsoft to do this. Really, think about it. Are you going to remove a game to make a group of people who want more than 100 friends happy, and piss off everyone that actually likes Halo 2?

According to the software giant, Halo 2 is a major factor contributing to certain changes not being made, for example the 100 friends limit cap. Original Xbox titles have this cap hardcoded into them, and so they're unable to make the changes.

That is from Strategy Informer. Ok, so original XBOX titles. That means your going to remove all of them with Xbox live and piss off even more people? No. It's absolute bull. How many people, if you have a full 100 friends list, do you actually play with?

Canada isn't that important that it needs two of the same threads on page one.

Your never going to play with all 100 of your friends and Halo 2, although I only play it to play and make mods for custom games which is good enough, is an amazing game. This is a stupid move and if done, people will then realize how pointless over 100 friends really is.

Games are the foundation of the XBL experience. The social experience is a plus, but I wish MS would consider the gameplay first. That's why people invest in a Live account.

They mainly invest in it for the gold, so they can play online. And you also get more features than psn and WAY more than failtendo wi fi.

Seriously, who needs over 100 friends?

If it was to make clans possible I might say yes, but I don't want to see Halo 2 go unless it is completely necessary.
