Subject: Should Brutes and Elites be more powerful

Actually if you look at the Halo Timeline, Brutes were always in the Covenant they just didnt show up intil Halo 2, because Bungie had to rush the release of Halo 1, because Microsoft threatened to drop the game if it didnt come out by then, the reason that nobody knew about them prior to Halo 2 is that they were rarely seen on the battlefield, and most people who encountered them were killed b4 anyone else could hear about them, but since there was no mention of Brutes in the Halo: The Fall Of Reach novel, I think you're right about them not being in Reach
or if you want it in storywise in halo CE you faced off against an elite fleet

Overdose v420v

Nobody Cares about How powerful they were in a previous game, the reason for the change of their power levels in the new games was do to the new weapons and equipment put into the new games

I don't think any organism should be able to take tons of bullets without dying. If you just want them to be stronger/faster that is one thing, but they shouldn't be able to take 20+ bullets from futuristic weapons.

That is just silly.

How do you know an organism isn't capable of being incredibly resilient? Granted Tartarus was a bit ridiculous, but if a brute, drinol, hunter, or any other "super" organism was able to take a ton of bullets/projectiles, and live to keep fighting, then why isn't it possible?

don't go back to that place

I Think a more effective Covenant style machine-gun should be In order.
The plasma rifle and the spiker just don't cut it when It comes to machine gun weaponry.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Plasma Cannon, Covie equivalent of the Machinegun turret. And it is just as strong. The Plasma Rifle USED to be great in Halo CE. And the Spiker is actually a little stronger than the AR.

Those weapons all have some serious problems.

Plasma Cannon: RARE and you can't use grenades while firing with It.
Plasma Rifle: It feels like you're just chipping away at an iceberg with this thing.
Spiker: It's Range Is so small that you would just be better off using a shotgun.

Yeah, but in Halo CE, the Plasma Rifle killed much faster than the AR, so it was win.

And actually, I drop an AR for an SMG, I drop SMGs for Spikers, and I drop any of them for a Plasma (Plasma Rifle + BR wins every time :P)

In halo ce I would swap ANYTHING for a plasma rifle.
Man, I miss when that weapon was cool...

You're either first or you're last.

You'll never amount to anything, go back under your bridge.

I just don't like the theme that the Spartans are always superior in every aspect (Hold the pathetic hornets on Avalanche). The Beam Rifle used to have 18 shots with 100 battery, more than the human counterpart with 12. It was reduced to 10 shots. The plasma pistol used to be able to hold a charge indefinitely, now it goes through energy rapidly. Oh, and plasma grenades and brute spike grenades still go through people like it was nobody's business. I just want to see an equal playing field, is all.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

I guess it is a sci-fi game, but from the looks of things the alien life is fairly similar in structure to any animal you would find on earth. Flesh, bones, muscle tissue. On top of that there are several weak spots that unless you are getting super sci-fi will take down any organism; eyes, head, heart, knee caps, that special area, etc.

These are futuristic guns thousands of years in the future, if you hit an organism in the sweet spots it should go down pretty easily.

I think if you are going to make units harder to kill it should be done by increasing their armor or making their shields harder to take down. But once you are hitting meat, IMO it shouldn't take too many shots.

First of all there shouldnt be any Brutes in Reach. Bottom line. Secondly whats wrong with the way the elites are. They are described as being almost an equal match to Spartans. I dont see a problem.

  • 08.13.2009 9:42 AM PDT

I'd kind of like to see the brute plasma rifle back. Idk how you guys feel about that. I know that a lot of people are saying (including Bungie) that it didn't feel "bruitsh" enough or whatever they say. But I personally liked it. I think the elites should be stronger than they currently are and brutes should be stronger than the elites. I feel like brutes are sooooooo weak.

EDIT: Yah I don't want Brutes in Reach. But my point is, brute plasma rifle was da bomb.

Do understand that the reason brutes are so underpowered is that their shields don't recharge once they break and that as a species they lean heavily towards close range combat and rarely use carbines en masse.

Thus, they rely on shieldless, easy to spot, jackals to cover them from medium to long range, and it only takes one shot to take me down.

Thus, all you need to do in Halo 3 campaign is standback and snipe away with a BR.

Shielded Elites that use a lot more carbines backed up by the close quarter combat loving Brutes would be a worthy challenge.

Only in campaign.

Plasma weapons should terrorize your health, etc. And Elites/Brutes are about 8 feet tall. (1 foot taller than Spartans)

But in multiplayer, everything should be BALANCED
