Subject: For those who want fall damage...

"Let me turret, you suck at it. Don't be sad we all know it."

Why!? It is more realistic without it, why? Cuz your a Spartan! If it wasn't in Halo 2 or 3, why for Reach? It seems really lame for a spartan to calapse cuz he's low on health and fell 5 feet.
I understand it in ODST, it makes sense, but not for a Spartan. Bungie needs to up Spartan's abilities, not lower them.

Apparently your reading comprehension is not all there, I didn't say that it necessarily irritates me. It's just annoying.

*Head explodes*

Because the gel or what-not was implemented in MJOLNIR MK VI and received most of the impact damage. It wasn't in Halo 1.

EDIT: From Halo wiki
It is also likely that the suit was capable of automatically increasing the pressure level of its hydrostatic gel as the user was falling, explaining the lack of fall damage in Halo 2. According to the Halo 3 intro cinematic, the Mark VI also included a "lockdown" mode where the suit retained a rigid form upon sustaining heavy trauma, most likely to avoid further injury. This also explains why a player's dead body gets 'stuck' in one stance when splattered.

Yeah, but they also have reinforced bone/muscle structures, they can take it.
Yes fall damage was in Halo 1, seriously just got done playing it.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

You will be wearing Mark V armor, like you did in Halo CE. The only reason fall damage went away was BECAUSE of Mark VI Armor.

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

Didn't the spartans in fall of reach jump from a flaming pelican 5 kilometers above the surface of the planet and most survived?

correct me if im wrong....

But...reinforced bone/muscle structures... :( That would help...

Realism doesn't matter. This is Halo. If realism mattered, then all plasma weapons would kill in the first shot. What's best for gameplay/balance is best for the game. Bungie believes plasma weapons that would kill in one shot would be bad. Hopefully they will believe again that fall damage makes the game more fun, like they thought for Halo 1 and Halo 3: ODST.

They had to put their suit in a kind of emergency lockdown mode. If you did this in a game, then when you jump you would have a short period of time where you could not move, or shoot, or nade, or melee.

Some did survive. The rest were injured, some seriously so. I forget the specifics.

2 or 3 died too.

4 died
6 were crippled
a few were unharmed
the rest of the 27 had "minor" injuries: contusions, broken bones, etc.

Because it's more tactical. If I go up in some high place to snipe, I can't just jump down the equivilent length of a football field and get away if I'm under fire, I need to think of all the outcomes. Advantageous higher positions are much more risky because if I make a mistep, I'm practically skrewing myself. Compare playing Hang 'em High from Halo: CE to playing Tombstone in H2, it's a completely different ball game.

Besides, in Halo: CE if you crouched while you were falling it nullified some of the fall damage.

Either way I'd say it's pretty inevitable that it'll be returning, MkV isn't as resilient as MkVI. The only reason those Spartans could survive that fall was because they "overdid" the cushioning gel in them, something they can't just do all the time. Reinforced bone structures certainly help, but when you weigh half a ton and you jump thirty feet down, it's going to hurt, just not as much as it would a normal person.

  • 08.10.2009 7:04 PM PDT

4 of them died on impact, most of them had broken bones and other damage they were trained to deal with and they also had damaged suits.

  • 08.10.2009 7:08 PM PDT

A mythic member but I speak my mind to much.

Im kinda getting tired of peoples saying

"OH BUT THEY ARE SPARTANS THEY CAN EAT LAVA, BLAH BALBALHBAL SPARTANS SPARTANS SPARTANS"

"Theirs bones and muscles are reinforced"

"Theirs suits can never break, they are indestructible"

A fall is a fall and a fall will effect the suit. Might not break a bone but it will effect the suit. Might not destroy the suit, but it will have some effect on it. What kind of effect...hmmm maybe shields getting lowered or knocked out a bit.

The shield covers the entire body, head to toe. above your head and below your feet. Any force impacting the shield will weaken your defenses. Whether it is a warthog smashing you in the face or your feet slamming the ground at 40+ mph. A hit is a hit, a fall is a fall.

We know a spartan can survive high speed impacts, but not the energy shields, and thats just about all that keeps most of you alive.

What is so illogical about having fall damage. What is the difference between getting hit by a warthog at 40 mph and meeting the ground at 40 mph.

It would add a bit of strategy Halo has been in need of. Lately is pretty noobed up, it needs something new and this something new is quite old.

Shields Break On Heavy Impact

SBOHI. Yeah I made up an acronym, sue me, either way, this is true about the Mark V's lesser shield system.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I like no fall damage.
