I'd like to be half-man half-tree in an octopus' garden in the shade.

I know that there's no way to prove classes or not, but I think that this would work: Instead of classes such as Sniper, Heavy Gunner, Assault, etc., which are very different from each other, it could be a class based system that each have slight strengths and weaknesses. For example, the Spartan on the far left, which looks like it could be for a heavy gunner class, would be a little bit slower and heavier than the other classes (70-85% of usual running speed and 115-130% of regular gravity). However, it would have a stronger beat down (equal to 1 BR shot and a beat down in Halo 3) and all heavy guns (Rockets, Shotgun, Laser) would be more effective while using it (Rockets have bigger splash damage, shotgun is stronger at longer ranges, laser charges faster). With this, the heavy gunner class would be less effective with weaker weapons, such as the magnum, plasma pistol, and spiker. Keep in mind that none of the classes would spawn with a different weapon than usual (For example, the sniper class would not spawn with a sniper) and that you cannot change classes during a game.

Similarly, the other classes would have perks and nerfs, too. The long-range class would be harder to notice (possibly by adding a slight camo), with regular speed and weight. It would give a longer range to most weapons, but all weapons would be weaker at close range. Also, the sniper rifle would be more effective (I'm not sure how, but possibly more auto aim while using it).

The Spartan that seems to be John with an Assault Rifle would be a sort of middle class. It would either have no buffs or nerfs whatsoever, or it would have some sort of slight buff/nerf.

The figure with what seems to be a knife would be a sort of "Assassin" class. It would be slightly faster (115-130% of regular speed) and could possibly jump higher (but only around 110-120% of normal). It would make all weapons much more effective at close range, but the non-close range weapons would have a smaller range. Long range weapons would not be able to zoom in as closely, either.

I'm not entirely sure what the last figure could be (the one to the left of John). Perhaps an agile, speed based class? If anyone has any ideas for that one, please feel free to share them.

This system would keep the classic Halo feel, with plenty of weapons placed around the map and a default spawning weapon that all players spawn with, but it would add a new level of variety to the game. I don't see how this would change the gameplay so drastically that it would mess up the balance of the game. I don't see how this would hurt the Halo multiplayer, so there's no reason why this couldn't work.

You couldn't post this on one of the hundreds of other threads about classes?

If you're going to post, will you at least say whether or not you think this could work or not?

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

This is an interesting take on classes. Not out of this world awesome, but different.

Classes or no classes, I don't care either way. I just don't want Halo 3.5.

It seems like quite a good idea, and it would bring in a much more tactical side to the game. Traditionally Halo isnt much of a tactical game and introducing this class system could upset some players of Halo 3. Bringing in calsses i feel would increase the gap between good players and not so good players because the not so good players would confussed as to what class to use at what time. Personally i am sat on the fence with the idea and just cant wait for the beta, i have already preordered Halo 3: ODST, i wouldnt mind whether the class system is introduced and i think it is something that would have to be tested in the beta to see what people think. On a different prospective i dont think that many halo fans would like this idea although it could draw people in from other games like Call of Duty that also have a class system, although this class system seems much different and more strategic, personally i am a fan of both Halo and Call of Duty which is why im not so sure on this matter. I would like to see this class system to be introduced into the beta to see how it works and see how people will benefit, or not benefit from it. Although have pre set classes does seem like a good idea being able to customize your classes is a very pleasing side to what activision have with Call of Duty. As you can tell from what i have wrote im not entirely sure if this will be good or not but i would definately like to see it in the beta. I do think this idea is something that could make or brake this game.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I'm all for Classes, just so long as they can't be Customized. Although, I would prefer a SPINOFF with Classes (By Spinoff I mean a side game like ODST or Halo Wars, one that doesn't follow the regular Halo story.)

Thanks for the great games Bungie.A rpg from you would be kinda cool, make sure you keep your story lines and plots epic.

That would restrict certain characters to certain restrictions when spartans are the epitimy of versatility they drop a pistol and pick up a heavy turret. While carrying said weapon then restrictions could apply such as in halo3.

Halo should stay away from Call of Dutyish stuff

if theres going to be classes it should be by species(brutes, elites, jackals) for Covenant, and marines, ODSTs, and Spartans for UNSC

Halo has been referred to as a sandbox game by Bungie and that means it needs customization. Classes would really remove from that. The ability to have classes would add to the game but only being class based would destroy the game completely. The only "class based" system that would work with Halo's customization is the Modern Warfare system of total customization for your starting weapons but I really don't want to see that.

War never decides who is right; only who is left.

Classes and customization wouldn't work because people would be putting reflex sights on the Battle Rifle, or a grenade launcher on the Assault Rifle, or a scope on the pistol (who would want that?).
