Subject: real hev pod

"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bull-blam!-, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Maybe if we discovered a new, very heat resistant alloy then we could attempt it but it wouldn't be pursued any further because of a high death rate. So, probably no.
What does the Space Shuttle use? or how about the Apollo craft?

There you go. Possible.

Wow you people need to learn about real-world stuff. We have ODST's. And ironically, they're called H.A.L.O jumpers.

http://www.halojumper.net/

Spec op soldiers that jump from ALMOST orbital heights into enemy territory. They even have bad ass helmets. They're just so manly they don't need an armored pod.

The stuff that's used on the Space Shuttle would probably break upon impact...

Well if you remember Halo 2, a special parachute reduces the speed before the HEV impacts the ground. Thrusters on the bottom of the pod further lower the speed upon impact. I'd imagine layers of material would be needed. Outermost to survive atmosphere temperatures, the next that can stand impact of the ground.

It's the real-world equivalent of ODST's. Were we a more advanced-space-fairing civilization, I'm sure a space-version of these. An "Alpha" ODST if you will. I'm also fairly certain ODST's were based of H.A.L.O soldiers.

Ok I am back online on xbox live so if u want to be my friend just send me a friend request. so see you on XBOX LIVE!!!!

The drop pod might work if you have the coating on the bottom like space shuttles, 3 paracutes (for now don't know about future) and have a spring seat wielded in the pod, but very unlikey.

See you on the battlefield.

yeah, a new alloy, and heat resistant material being also very very strong compared to weight, as well as a gravity reduction field or a means of slowing the person inside. If you're speeding to the ground at about 400km/s, decelerating would be a problem for the occupant. If it didn't slow less than 50km/s, the occupant would become jelly, their neck would break ect.
But who knows? Maybe it's possible, but i highly doubtit. It is easier, more effective and safer to proceed with a slower decent in a landing ship.
