In one of the E3 interviews, Joe Staten hinted at methods of transport we haven't seen before. One of the methods we're now considering are the garbage trucks. In the recent ViDoc, Nathan Fillian (Buck) states that "we could commandeer the city's garabe trucks if we needed."

Now, a lot of people think we won't be able to use them, but I've spotted something in the ViDoc that may be a key to the argument.

This image shows a truck, circled. Could it be a garbage truck? If so, it may actually be useable. Notice the clear windows, and then notice the opaque windows on the Police car near to it. Maybe the clear windows suggest that the vehicle is useable? So far, all useable UNSC vehicles in Halo 3 have had clear windows, and I'm pretty sure no scenery vehicles have them.

This image shows one of the trucks in question destroyed, with no wheels. Now, this may suggest that the vehicle is just scenery, but remember the Mongoose can lose wheels, and so can the 'hog. A Garbage Truck will be weaker than a Warthog, too.

Additionally, the Police cars doo seem to have opaque windows for at least the majority of the time.

However, this image seems to contradict my previous statements. Well, apart from the opaque windows part.

Thoughts?

I think you're onto something Dropship! Nice find!

The Brute looks confused by your theory though.

The fight has been complete.... now get the cookies!

While we certainly share your enthusiasm for the return, we here at the Bungie.net community are mostly made up of snarky asses and jerks who will ridicule you for making a thread about something revealed months ago. We regret that your innocent intentions will almost certainly be replied with anger and sarcasm, and politely invite you to don your Flame-suit, because you just did the internet equivalent of jumping up the Construct lifts.

Clear windows does make a huge difference. It is showing the details of the inside of it. They wouldn't need to do that if you weren't gonna see it for a reason. And also no bunge employees have brought it up or try to clear it out on the forums yet... I believe 90% yes we will be able to.

Well, no other unsable vehicle in halo has ever had transparent windows i dont think so you might be on to something.

  • 08.11.2009 4:59 PM PDT

I always thought we should be able to drive any vehicle we find.

Hey guess what!? I play CoD more than Halo, but I'm not an annoying fanboy. I love CoD more, but I like how involved the Halo Community is...

Cool find, nice eyes on the Brute

Ah, good point. Still, I've looked at the rest of the ViDoc. The Police cars always have opaque windows, and I also saw a truck that was destroyed. Give me a sec to get the images.

=)

"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bull-blam!-, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."-Lemmy of Motorhead

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

Agreed. I think we can use 'em, or why wold they bother hinting it in the vidoc.

"Momma didn't raise no fool."

I think he was just commenting on how they would complete their mission... I don't think Buck was serious.

I beg to differ. The pelicans in H3 had transparent windows and the only time you used one was to activate a cutscene.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.

Garbage trucks in an FPS? Wtf? That does not work. Why would we want to drive garbage trucks? This game is not GTA IV!

"If you push this button. Someone. Somewhere will die.

BUT.

You will, hey wait! Didn't you wanna hear what you'd get first!"

I believe they may be the transportation method we have yet to see. We could possibly be able to transport from one area to any other as long as there is an undestroyed garbage truck in front of us. At least, that is my theory.

Your point being? Bungie could do something creative with them. I don't think they are just eluding to a cutscene. I think that it could be a seriously useful thing. And if it meant a faster way from one side to another, I would like to drive garbage trucks.

8/5/08 Bungie Favorites- NoEnd
7/1/09 Bungie Favorites- RECON Devil
9/9/09 Bungie Favorites- Champion
5/22/10 HaloCharts Favs- Prey

maybe that's how you have to do the level highway without the scorpion tank or whatever for the vidmaster achievement

Maybe they'll have a hot-wiring meta-game.

I think it may be possible... but as Dutch said, the Superindentent may not allow it... But you never know and we'll find out

  • 08.11.2009 7:21 PM PDT

It sounds plausible. Nothing we can really do besides speculate until next month.

Nice find...hope we can drive the cop car.

The forklifts are unuseable...and don't have windows!

  • 08.11.2009 7:24 PM PDT

A garbage truck would suck IMO. But a Shadow on the other hand...

  • 08.11.2009 7:26 PM PDT

What a waste....

I think they might be usable.
