Subject: More on the Garbage Trucks in ODST

Eat raw meat.
Punch a bear in the face.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

Honestly, I just think that the garbage truck comment was just Nathan Fillion making a funny. I'm sure that they could commandeer a garbage truck, but in a hot zone like New Mombasa why would they? Surely the UNSC military would've brought along enough Warthogs to satisfy an a squad of ODSTs.

My name is from Star Wars. Now you know.

Feel free to follow me on my twitter and stalk me.

Nice find. Also, if you look in the vidoc, you can also see a Police Car. I don't know if it would be drivable, but would be fun.

True. It is an "Open world". So using a vehicle like a "Garbage Truck" would be like a conveniant way of transport. I mean why not? It's not like they can put a warthog in the middle of a destroyed city, when all of the military moved on. Why would the military leave an undamaged Warthog behind. Plus would'nt really make sence to put a random warthog in the city. So I think the Garbage Truck being used as a way of transportation would fit in very well with the rest. I mean the "Rookie" is away from any other Military People, and is in a Wrecked City. So if you happen to run across a Garbage Truck and it just so happens to work, why not use it to get where you are going? I think he is onto something. I think it would be cool if you could use the Garbage Trucks. Would be a nice twist to the game.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.

I hope Joe Staten means pelicans by "new means of transportation"

Same i understand pelicans, but not garbage trucks in an FPS. Plus i heard something about Elephants??

Garbage trucks in an FPS? Wtf? That does not work. Why would we want to drive garbage trucks? This game is not GTA IV!

We drive jeeps, quadbikes and alien vehicles - why not?

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I'd love a cutscene sequence where Dutch and Mickey are pinned down by the Banshees that shot down their Pelican and an army of Brutes are coming. Then the Brutes hear a noise and they ceasefire, from a distant building you see through the Brute's eyes and a Garbage Truck rams him which is being driven by Romeo and another one comes driven by Buck.

Cool or what?

Did anyone else notice the little man (ODST?) when you zoom in on the second image in the OP? Zoom in around the left side of the white circle and you'll see him in the distance.

One thing no one seems to have considered is maybe the ODSTs do commandeer a garbage truck but it is possible it is only in a cutscene. Same goes for the Mickey piloting the pelican theory.

So what if there are destroyed ones, you see destroyed warthogs in the halo 3 campain.

I wish I was still legendary.

What on earth did you show that brute?

Cool theory, and makes sense. I hadn't even noticed the clear windows or anything watching through.

True, but the wreck of the "garbage" truck in that image is mangled, like a vehicle used as scenery would be. Remember in Halo 2, when the back of the trucks crippled after an explosion?

It could just be an added after effect. Who knows?!

  • 08.12.2009 4:16 AM PDT

War, War never changes.

Got my Recon from the Vidmaster achievments, like most.
Reach IS awesome, don't deny it

I also remember the Halo 2 vehicles sounding like clattering pans and pots when they were hit. I like the idea of using garbage trucks, or any other transport which we arent used to.

  • 08.12.2009 4:37 AM PDT

I think the garbage trucks actualy might play some use in the game as transport. In an E3 video Joseph Staten says 500 years in the future the garbage trucks are 100% automated. So maby you tell the SI to send out a truck to take you some were.

Maybe they'll be some sort of replacement for the troop hogs.

Let that sink in.

They will certainly be more abundant.

  • 08.21.2009 9:27 AM PDT

I dont think you can drive them, but I think there might be a scene where you ride on the back of one and shoot at stuff
