Nosce Te Ipsum ( IX NTI XI )

Imagine a world where you can choose your side. A world where you can share your hive mind like ways with the flood, or become a prophet of the great journey, or help lead the earth forces to the front line for some good old lead spreading... Well I think it would be awesome. The idea of being able to choose your side in a universal war is not only a way of acknowledging diversity in true preference and choice (i.e. spartan or elite in multiplayer online) but it would in my opinion add interactive depth to the story of a war on a massive scale. Similar to the concept of the well know PC title "Spore". You would start of as a marine, a grunt / jackal, or a flood parasite all depending on your choices. Your initial missions would entail your growth as a soldier within whatever organization you choose. Once you've met a specific criteria you would be given a chance to become one of the more proficient soldiers of your group and access to off planet / vessel missions allowing you to interact with the other races. At this point through missions you would be given an opportunity to side with an alternate race while maintaining your own (even though the flood would have no choice but to consume all in their mission of conversion) race. Eventually you will be allowed access to the Halo facilities and other points of interest. While earning your ranks within an actual group (receiving titles and new placement within the ranks) instead of independently. This is a concept that would be interesting to see, a first person shooter combined with a massive online multiplayer system. Even though I don't think it would be easy....

The fight has been complete.... now get the cookies!

While we certainly share your enthusiasm for the return, we here at the Bungie.net community are mostly made up of snarky asses and jerks who will ridicule you for making a thread about something revealed months ago. We regret that your innocent intentions will almost certainly be replied with anger and sarcasm, and politely invite you to don your Flame-suit, because you just did the internet equivalent of jumping up the Construct lifts.

As much fun as it sounds, it would make Halo no longer Halo. It's bad enough they are making Halo Legends.

It would be good as sideline game such as Halo Wars or ODST.

But not as a main game.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

My only issue with this is that it is obviously limited within it's own mythology. A marine grunt will never become a Spartan (top tier of UNSC military soldiers), just as much as a grunt will never become an Elite Zealot or Brute Chieftan. If they were to bend a lot of the rules and flirt with the story I could see this happening, but I do not see something like this taking off very well as it is built around an FPS game.

I was actually quite psyched about Legends until I saw the previews. If they would have actually kept to established technology and history of the games I think it could have been great, but they are taking far too many liberties, and that is based only on the previews thus far.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I'm not saying the grunts would become the officers. I'm meant it to be more of an opportunity to accomplish goals within each position allowing you to unlock missions as a higher rank. The interaction would still be first person but on more of a campaign type board, but instead of all the NPC's it would be other people earning their new position. As we already have multiple playlist in Halo 3 multiplayer, each new planet, vessel, scenario through out the experience would be establish upon a playlist of campaign size maps. Earning your ranks would allow entry into new playlist with different maps, scenarios, and new races. After unlocking these playlist you could still go back to the initial playlist, As you can go from Ranked to Social playlist in Halo 3. Again it would still maintain a FPS style. The playlist size would be like Big Team Slayer or larger. So it's not really a MMORPG but it would have a story based on all sides and give everyone an opportunity to see it from even the shortest perspective. I just think it would be awesome to have a chance to run in kamikaze style as a grunt loaded with precharged plasma grenades, or as a UNSC pilot handling reconnaissance in a pelican, or maybe even a transforming flood form climbing walls and ceilings. I can see how some of these races and their behavior would be difficult to implement within a FPS perspective, but I'm sure the larger form within each race would be more enjoyable in 3rd person anyways. This is just my imagination exploring the world. I just felt like sharing.... Nosce Te Ipsum
