I have no idea if this has any relevance... I've been playing Halo Wars lately, and couldn't help notice 3 Spartans are always helping Sgt. Forge. So i thought hmm, what if these guys are the ones in the Reach picture? They are with you until the end, when they have the epic hand 2 hand combat with the elites. And another thing... sometimes i would here one of the Spartans say during game play.. "This is for Samuel!" What could this mean? Kind of a random thing to just blurt out unless it means something.

No. Those Spartans don't get back to UNSC airspace for a long time. Otherwise we would have known about the Flood before Halo.

(-_-) Bored Face

I haven't read the books, but from reading about it online I know Samuel was a Spartan. He was on John 117's team.

The ship "The Spirit of Fire" was without a shaw-fujikawa slipspace generator when it escaped the explosion at the end of Halo Wars, which meant that it would take years for the ship to make it back to UNSC controlled space, so im fairly certain those spartans were unable to gave any assistance in the battle of Reach. Nice thinking though

Yes, you can hear the spartan say this...but you have to be zoomed in when they are in combat.

Hmm that is rather curious though as to why spartans that are unaware of a fellow spartans death would devote there military achievements to him lol

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

They say "This is for Samuel!" because he was the first Spartan to be KIA, and he just so happened to die onboard a Covenant ship after being mortally wounded by a Jackal. The Spartans want payback.

lol relax man i dont think he ment it that way. he just saying to read the books. and with the three spartans from halo wars i remember reading a list of spartans that were kia and still alive it mentioned three that were left nameless that were on missions on far away planets and had not been heard from for years so im gonna say that they were talking about the spartans from wars.

I still don't get that why is there only 3 spartans. I thought there was an army of spartans.

  • 08.12.2009 12:18 AM PDT

There were actually more Spartans in Halo Wars. Four of them were named and several more were not.

Based on the Halo Wars Timeline which states that 25 Spartan II's defended Reach this means that the Spartans on board the Spirit of Fire made it back before Reach fell.

And for those that will say "Why didn't the UNSC know about the Flood before Halo CE then?" That's because ONI kept the information secret. That's what ONI are good at.

The 3 Spartens away on a misson is Grey team (specialised team of individuals who stood out from all the other spartens) At the time of Reach they had a misson deep in Covenant space.

The 5 in the picture are probably Fred, Kelly, William, Isaac and Vihn (the last 5 spartens known to be alive together although some of them still die ON REACH. Later we have the team from the book "First strike" and the team from "Ghost of Onyx" ofcourse and some more stuff)

Ofcourse its very possible there other spartens that survived that we do not know of yet. Judging from the picture my frst thought was actually that there were 2 female spartens in the picture. The one on the left next to the Heavy sparten would be Kelly then (she is fast runner and stuff) and the one on teh right with the sniper would be Linda then (best sniper of teh spartens) but this could only be possible if you pay a lot of events before the fall of reach because during the fall of reach she was on a covenant ship with John (and thus not with the group of Fred when the events on reach play out)

bear in mind this is al just theoretical so no actual facts can lead us to a solid conclusion until we can push Halo: Reach into our Xbox

I think that you have misunderstood the point of these forums.
They are provided by Bungie for the community. They are here for us to communicate with each other. If/when Bungie employees decide to jump in, it is because they are fans too.
This isn't a think tank, feedback system, or suggestion box for Bungie. They've listened to their fan community, but they don't treat this site as a conduit to the "pulse of the people". And it certainly isn't the Oracle at Delphi for the fans.

The nameless shown in halo wars are seen on arcadia, which is still in UNSC controlled space and it is only the three that accompany forge that are on the spirit of fire. When they shout For Samuel, it is not because he is first KIA, he is first KIA from the covenant. Other spartans died in the augmentation process. Samuel was just the first to be killed by a covenant jackal. Going back to Halo Wars, the three that help forge douglas, jerome, and the other ( whose name escapes me ) are still on the spirit of fire, like earlier mentioned doesnt have slipspace. This makes perfect sense that we still dont know about the flood by reach because these two events are two close in time for the spirit of fire to make it back from the sheild world. and going to the statement about the whole army of spartans, there were only 25 spartans that could be called to reach before the attack began because some cermony and the super secret mission debriefing. the 27 on reach were the only ones close enough to make it in time. grey team and the spartans on the spirit of fire could not. this means that there were 33 + spartans that were not KIA so the numbers do match.

the picture thing could also be something else. almost all spartans numbers only go to 150. in the trailer they say 259. suggesting a second phase which means that the second series of spartan II's may show up.and we could see the battle under reach as well.

no you dum dum there where 3 main spartans in halowars, there were pronounced dead when there ship got lost in space, they did not make it back to Reach, when it was glassed, that's kind of lucky because they may be featured in the later Halo Games, maybe,
