Subject: The Covenant Just Set Off A Nuke??

Do they even have a nuke in their arsinal? I think the covenant are way too advanced for Nukes and Nuclear weaponry, and if they are why was it that Buck's (I Think) first reaction to the Slip Space Jump is "the Covenant just set of a nuke!??" If he has even been paying attention to the war, and the Covenant in general wouldnt he know about their weaponry?

BTW in the real world

Im wathing X-Play and they keep saying ODST has been pushed back till early 2010 is this true?

I am a whisper on the wind...

Not true and he is in talking about the radiation and EMP.

  • 08.12.2009 3:52 PM PDT

wow never heard anything like that

  • 08.12.2009 3:53 PM PDT

they were confused they thought when the ship jumped it was a nuke

I am a Halo 3 Failure.

They have nuke type things, I mean, look at the Covenant Bomb in Halo 2, it was on Cario Station.

Hey guess what!? I play CoD more than Halo, but I'm not an annoying fanboy. I love CoD more, but I like how involved the Halo Community is...

ODST has been on content complete for like 2 months (i pretty sure anyway, i dont think i made that up) - unless they find a superbug that for some reason wasnt found in test its definateyl 22/9/09

Product page says Fall '09 still. Count on the 22nd. Bungie's done with the game anyway, so they have no reason to push it back. Maybe you were thinking of the Reach beta.

Also, that's not a nuke, that's an explosion caused by antimatter during the creation of the slipspace rupture.

X Play lies. Bungie would have informed us if ODST would be pushed till later.

As for the nukes... The Covenant does not use nuclear weapons even though they certainly have technology for 'em. Brutes have no problems with stealing them though... they just never get a chance to use them (as happened in Halo:GoO)
Covies most likely don't bother with nukes as they're pretty much useless in space (no shockwaves, unless the nukes goes off within some 1km (or so) from a ship, it doesn't do any damage. As for planetary bombardment, Covies either prefer to go close combat or they simply glass the planet. Energy for energy weapons is cheaper... or at least easier than manufacturing nukes and missiles for those.

As for antimatter in slipspace rupture... what? The slipspace rupture causes EMP and a shockwave (interestingly, entering to atmosphere does not cause either one, only jumping IN atmosphere). There is no antimatter involved...

I think Mickey said it, maybe he just saw a big 'splosion and thought it was one.

NIERDRAIG!!!

no, if they were smarter, they would glass it

Wha...? You mean its smarter to use energy projectors and plasma torpedoes to destroy something rather than nukes?
Remember that technologically more advanced weapon IS NOT NECESSARILY "better" IE more destructive than an old weapon. A strike from sword kills just as likely as a bullet... or a HE grenade can kill as easily as a Plasma Grenade.

Nuke could apply to any weapon with radiation really.

1: They only thought it was a nuke. It wasn't

2: The Phfor used nukes primarily, they were every bit as advanced. Coviers are their expy.

3: You are NEVER too advanced for a nuke. EVER!

Nuclear weapon... actually, doesn't it mean a weapon that is "powered" by atomic reactions? Such thing doesn't necessarily even emit that much radiation...
Radiological weapons... umm is that even a real term?

Anyways, no human has ever seen a slipspace jump within atmosphere, as far as humans know about 'em, they're impossible. Covies can do 'em due advanced slipspace tech.
A slipspace jump emits a radiation spike so the first thing humans think, soldier especially, will be that Covies used some sort nuclear device... they could never even fathom a possibility of a jump within atmosphere.

My honor student can beat up your honor student.

The carrier gave off slipspace radiation, which is only found when a ship goes into slipspace oddly enough, and that is only done in space for good reason (no huge shockwaves or emps go off in space)

So when Buck said "DId the Covenant just set off a nuke?" he was referring to the abnormal slipspace radiation levels coming from the ship, not that the covenant use 21st century nuclear weapons or anything of the sort.

Duurrrrrrr.
