Seriously, does no one care about having a great campaign experience anymore? Most of the ideas here are just for multiplayer, why don't we come up with some ideas for campaign for a change? I'll start it off.

- Cutscene like events through the eyes of the main character, like in ODST.
- More animations for things like boarding, switching weapons and idle animations.
- Better driving and tactical AI for both sides.
- Tons of weapons and vehicles from the Halo Universe.
- Longer Campaign with at least 15 + levels (NO chapters like Outskirts and Metropolis, The Storm and Floodgate)
- More ambient sounds with less soundtrack to cover them up.
- No equipment, keep VISR (feels like more of a new feature than equipment does), instead make some of the existing equipment into grenades, such as the Power Drain, Radar Jammer and Flare.

Now... how about the rest of the community's ideas to make this campaign be better than even the campaign of Halo CE?

My old Bungie.net account was created February 6, 2008. Unfortunately, I had signed up using my brother's email account (we then shared an Xbox Live account which was linked to my old Bungie.net account), and he changed the password, meaning I couldn't log in. Thus is why I have this account.

I think the campaign should be more serious, as in, it should make you cry each time you play it.

I really felt restricted in the halo 3 campaign. dont get me wrong it was good, but bungie tried to do something that their engine couldnt actually produce. Id want every mission to be very wide open with lots of action going on everywhere. A freaking planet is being invaded. it would only make sense to see nothing but mayhem at every turn and also beautiful landscapes to follow through with reaches rep of a very green planet

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Not nearly as much as multiplayer.

hey a great campaign is what I'm looking for but definitely good multiplayer as well (this is what makes shadowrun one of my least favorite games)

and my thread about my Scarab game mode give a solid idea for a campaign mission (found in UPDATE #3)

I agree with this statement and all of you apart from the equipment change i found them quite helpful when playing on legendery or something. But back to the quote. To see destruction everywhere and other marines fighting like in the halo3 advert with all the little figurines of the marines fighting. To see that while playing as a spartan would make the game more interesting.

Signatures are for squares.

If a game doesn't have an atleast "Decent" campaign, then I won't pick it up, regardless of how well multiplayer is.

  • 08.12.2009 6:31 PM PDT

i agree without campaign you wouldn't have such a good multiplayer i mean look at shadow run its good but its not great.

Multiplayer more or less doesn't concern me at all, whereas the Campaign defines how I judge a Bungie game. I agree with most of your improvements, but what was wrong with Outskirts and Metropolis? And The Storm and Floodgate? Those levels were awesome! Especially the latter two.

Marty already does and awesome job of balancing ambient sound with music. I hate saying that something can't be improved, as it is almost never the case, but if the audio isn't perfect, it sure as hell is pretty darn close. I have faith in Marty, Jay, C Paul that the sound in Reach will be just as good if not better than it was in the Halo Trilogy.

valid ideas

  • 08.13.2009 6:17 PM PDT

i want to see more ideas for this, so if any one agrees with me, i think we should keep this topic going and talking about the campaign and what we'd like to see and maybe the multiplayer ideas.

You say tomato; I say potato.

I play campaign 80% of the time.

What saddens me with videogames these days, is that a lot of people seem to care more about multiplayer than anything as the developers. And one of the reasons I agree Halo to be overrated, to much people who bought Halo barely played the campaign, never read any books and don't care about the universe. Isn't that what it is all about? The universe?

I intend to live forever, or die trying,

so far, so good.

I love Campaign Missions.

I love the Halo Story, I have all the books.

You can have a great Multi Player Game, but its greater if thire is a Story behind it all. Halo Has that.

I loved how you could get on top of the buildings in Outskirts! It put a whole new twist on how you could play the level.

You can't kill what's dead.

Stand. Fight. Resist. S2F.

People want a lot of multiplayer things because that's what makes or breaks the longevity of a game. Without a lot of good multiplayer stuff, no one will play.

I think a grittier, darker, and bloodier campaign is needed. Halo 1, 2, 3 had campaigns that lacked real emotion and feeled to "cartoony." And the Campaign should be around 15 or more hours, with equal story telling from both sides. Other than that, I don't think the Campaign needs any large tweaks. Maybe some space battles thrown in the mix? But other than that, I feel it's fine.

Yeh that's what i think (I haven't read any of the books but i did post about them as i was going to buy them) the universe of halo is more important as without it we wouldn't have halo ODST nor the new reach as there would be no story for bungie to make it.

  • 08.14.2009 5:25 AM PDT

For Halo, no
Most games in general, yes

  • 08.14.2009 5:28 AM PDT

Evil, always finds a way!
Gnarl: Overlord

The Halo campaign is the only campaign that i think still is touching me. I don't care how many captain price's have died in CoD 2 or 4. In halo as Sgt Johnson died it really touched me. So YES if this game's campaign will suck this is the last bungie game i will buy

  • 08.14.2009 5:39 AM PDT

cod campaigns are good but they dont have much of a story as halo or GoW as they have a fight for survival and an epic battle against other life forms.

Woot Woot Woot
Sangheili FTW!

Halo after its multiplayer is also known for its epic campaign and deep story.
Of course Halo:Reach needs a long and epic campaign, i really hope that Reach will last at least more than H3, H3 is ridiculously short and not so much epic as it was hyped before realease.

Imo Reach needs new feelings in-game, an atmosphere of darkness, of a sudden and inevitable defeat, see scenes like screaming civilians, marines blowing away, see over your head some human fregate obliterated by Covies starships, more gore and violence by covenant troops, a lot of explosions, demolitions, all set in an heavy urban environment like E3 2003 H2 demo.
Yeah maybe all of that is too much expansive to create, but at least have epic dialogue ingame, i wanna see my allies acting in a more real way, not always joking and cheerful.
And of course the game needs at least 10 hours of longevity, 12-15 would be perfect.

But nowadays software houses works more on multi than singleplayer, many games of this generation like H3, GoW, CoD have good multiplayer and intense singleplayer but the latter is always short, and epicness comes from longevity too.

I hope bungie will not disappoint us.
