I <3 Campaign

  • 08.14.2009 7:30 AM PDT

The campaign is why i am going to buy the game. If it is anything like The Fall of Reach, then the campaign should be amazing

i haven't read the book so i don't know what the campaign will be like for this. So should i go and read it or wait for the game, play the game and then read the book. i wonder ??hmmm??

"As the rich wage war, it's the poor who die"
"We've all been lost for most of our lives every where we turn more hatred surrounds us"

i could care less about multiplayer i want to know of the story and how this war is a really a desperate war.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Campaign is always the first thing I play with any game, sadly it took the backseat with Halo 3. Thankfully Bungie came to their senses with Halo 3: ODST and put alot of their focus on campaign.

Will is everything.

I certainly care about a big, robust campaign. Something I can go in and play over and over, still enjoy, and be entertained with a deep and mature story. As much as I love multiplayer I still want an epic story to jump into with all the characters and worlds that entails. And to those saying that Halo 3 fell short with the campaign, I really can't wrap my head around that. To each their own but I felt Halo 3's campaign mode was the overall best in the series. BTW....yes I do love the first (Halo 1) dearly.

I care about campaign its why i bought Halo.I wanna feel the desperation of the people who are fighting, i wanna see a marine begging for his live, an odst crying for help and also to see the bravery of each UNSC soldier, their look when a teammate dies, their hope, their face when they kill an elite.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

Campaign is why you buy a game and multiplayer is what keeps you coming back.

No matter how good a campaign is, it will always get boring after a few times. A really good multiplayer keeps the game on top for 2 years. (Halo 2 and 3)

...NO chapters like Outskirts and Metropolis...
But those are the best levels in Halo 2...

People want a lot of multiplayer things because that's what makes or breaks the longevity of a game. Without a lot of good multiplayer stuff, no one will play.

I think a grittier, darker, and bloodier campaign is needed. Halo 1, 2, 3 had campaigns that lacked real emotion and feeled to "cartoony." And the Campaign should be around 15 or more hours, with equal story telling from both sides. Other than that, I don't think the Campaign needs any large tweaks. Maybe some space battles thrown in the mix? But other than that, I feel it's fine.

Did you even play Halo, Combat Evolved? It was not at all cartoony compared to two and three... And the blood in CE, was much more than we get now.

Seriously, does no one care about having a great campaign experience anymore? Most of the ideas here are just for multiplayer, why don't we come up with some ideas for campaign for a change? I'll start it off.

- Cutscene like events through the eyes of the main character, like in ODST.
- More animations for things like boarding, switching weapons and idle animations.
- Better driving and tactical AI for both sides.
- Tons of weapons and vehicles from the Halo Universe.
- Longer Campaign with at least 15 + levels (NO chapters like Outskirts and Metropolis, The Storm and Floodgate)
- More ambient sounds with less soundtrack to cover them up.
- No equipment, keep VISR (feels like more of a new feature than equipment does), instead make some of the existing equipment into grenades, such as the Power Drain, Radar Jammer and Flare.

Now... how about the rest of the community's ideas to make this campaign be better than even the campaign of Halo CE?

I like some of the ideas, I could see small cutscenes through the eyes of the protaganist, but think about the scope of halo cinematics in the past, most of the videos aren't about the chief at all, they serve to update you on those involved that you aren't in contact with, to tie the story together

new animations would be cool, providing they don't take too much time, as they could have adverse effects on multiplayer if they are too lengthy

and Marty O'Donnell's music is if not the best, nearly the best thing about halo, it's amazing, I know that he doesn't like to have droning soundtracks throughout, he uses music to punctuate and highten the emotional content at the right times, halo's focus on the use of music is the best executed part of the game, and I don't want less of that

more weapons would be cool, even if they are campaign only, I would like to see something like an MA3 or other weapons from the books or different permutations of weapons for mission specific needs, like a silencer for certain missions, also some of the vehicles from halo wars, like a grizzly, once again, even if that is campaign only

I don't like the idea of combining equipment and grenades, it would be more to cycle through, the current system works great

Visr might be a nice addition, though I don't think spartan armor has VISR, so...

and obviously i want the same things most halo fans want, improved AI and a longer campaign

A freaking planet is being invaded. it would only make sense to see nothing but mayhem at every turn and also beautiful landscapes to follow

To see destruction everywhere and other marines fighting like in the halo3 advert with all the little figurines of the marines fighting. To see that while playing as a spartan would make the game more interesting.

I totally agree. There needs to be more chaos on the battlefield. This is war, not paintball; you get no breaks! The only thing about that is the Marines would probably get wasted before you can do anything, which is why Marines need better AI, so they can recognize cover and take advantage of it, throw grenades, suppress the enemy and maneuver. Halo has become too much of a Run-n'-Gun game.

-Better AI for both sides; perform in tactical maneuvers.
-Complete chaos on the battlefield.

And if you're with a squad of Marines as a Spartan, you SHOULD have the ability to command them. Assuming they add the improved AI, they can lay low, or go loud, set up an ambush, stuff like that! It might be too much like Brothers In Arms, but c'mon, if they're really in the military, they better recognize a superior officer.

-Ability to command Marines.

That's all I've got for now.

For Carnage Apply Within - Fatum Iustum Stultorum

"Do not mistake your rank and number for superiority. The oldest child may learn from the youngest."

I typically care more about the single-player or co-operative element in a given video game than its multiplayer aspect. I may be unique, but I feel video games are a great medium in which to tell stories, so when I see a new game being developed or released, I approach it as I would a movie or book. WIll the story within the game be worth the price? Will it entertain me? How is it different from other games I've seen? I hesitate to buy any game marketed solely as a multiplayer experience since such titles tend to be repetitive and uninspired.

Besides, you can not always assume consumers, fans, whoever, will have access to the multiplayer component of a game (i.e. lack of internet connection, XBL Gold membership, etc.). perhaps it is possible that people don't even want to play the multiplayer aspect of a title or have gotten bored with it. A single player or co-op campaign feature drives video games as an actual media platform, whereas (in my opinion) any multiplayer feature associated with a title provides a way to 'draw out the experience' or offers a related form of continuing entertainment one can use after they have experienced the campaign proper.

Luckily it seems most video games are still story driven and place an emphasis on single-player and/or co-op modes. As a medium, video games should tell stories and provide entertainment. Successful video games manage to do both simultaneously and in a spectacular fashion. Yet, in my mind, the story and the entertainment provided should never be separated, instead they should intermesh and be obligated to one another. Cheapening such a dynamic for the sake of a multiplayer feature is perhaps one of the quickest ways to destroy a title and 'dumb down' the medium.
