I love this idea. However, since many people don't like air battles, I would suggest a central ground battlefield that would have some sort of significance. How about this:
In the middle of this huge area, there is a ground battlefield, roughly the size of Valhalla. It consists of 2 opposite bases that have entryways in a series if underground tunnels(Kinda like Rat Race from H2) that lead to one central control center. In this control center, is a singular switch that controls the one-way shield doors. Red Team wants to get to the switch, so they take a few Pelicans out, drop about 10-15 soldiers ODST style, and they move into the tunnel network. Blue team has done the same, and after a fevered CQB fight, Red team prevails and hits the switch. Meanwhile, smaller Red Team air groups attack the Blue Team air forces, and when the doors go down, they hammer in a massive strike that destroys most of Blue's air assets, essentially taking them out of the fight for the respawn period. Shield doors would remain down after the switch is hit for 45 seconds, to prevent excessive spawn camping(this is assuming that there is an area of rooms/halls behind the main hangar for spawns). The 45 second limit would allow enemy players to infiltrate the enemy base, but once they die, they can't get back in.
A setup like this would require an insane amount of communication, teamwork, and strategy. Which, for me at least, is what makes Halo fun.
