Subject: Thanks for charging $60 for the new maps Bungie.

~spread it on~

This is one of the most outrageous things that Bungie and Microsoft have done. I know its mostly Microsoft's doing but still...

In this article I read that Bungie has no plans to release the three new maps in ODST on Xbox Live Marketplace, so the only way to get ahold of them is to spend your $60 and buy ODST. So yeah basically they're asking you to bend over and take it like a man if you want to play on the new maps.

The worst thing is, you know that a couple months down the line that they will integrate the new MP maps into all of matchmaking so if you are one of the people that doesn't buy ODST you are going to be restricted to only playing social slayer.

I know that most of us will probably buy ODST anyway so this isn't that big of a deal, but I would rather have been able to just purchase the maps on Marketplace, because ODST seems like a game that I will probably not play more than one time through so I would've probably just have rented it if the maps will be made available on Marketplace.

Firefight mode better be damned good to make this 5 hour campaign + new map pack package worthwhile.

sorry for the rant, it just seems like Microsoft is really screwing us over hard this time. Anyone else have any thoughts one way or another?

The fight has been complete.... now get the cookies!

While we certainly share your enthusiasm for the return, we here at the Bungie.net community are mostly made up of snarky asses and jerks who will ridicule you for making a thread about something revealed months ago. We regret that your innocent intentions will almost certainly be replied with anger and sarcasm, and politely invite you to don your Flame-suit, because you just did the internet equivalent of jumping up the Construct lifts.

They plan to not release them on the marketplace anytime 'soon'.

Gigitty Gigitty Goo!

this is from the link i posted. and i quote-

Jarrard assured us that there are currently no plans to release the new maps as a download through Xbox Live, so you'll have to pick up ODST to snag them.

No plans SO FAR. You know Bungie they should release them on marketplace around 2010.

"Everyone, fire at Will!"
"Why? What did Will ever do to you?"

I wouldn't really worry about the playlist integration thing. Knowing Bungie, they'll probably going to release DLC before they start making it required to play playlists.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

If there's one thing I hate more than people complaining about the price on the Bungie forum instead of taking it up with Microsoft, it's people's responses. I mean, seriously guys. Grow up, the guy's entitled to his opinion without any aggressive responses.

He said currently so later they might release them.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Too bad you get all those other features as well.

Best post in the thread.

It's going to be just like the Mythic maps with Halo Wars. There will be a month or so with buying ODST being the only way to get the new maps, then they will release them. I agree that Microsoft is being stupid by not having the last or upcoming map pack release on the marketplace at the same time as the games come out. But think of it this way, even if you rent ODST, the maps should come out on the marketplace by the time you get tired of it.

  • 08.12.2009 8:24 PM PDT

Go Rams and Missouri!

They aren't going to make it required in as many playlists as the Mythic maps are now.

Another wrong person.

Mythic Map Pack Part 2 is only available with ODST. It's never going to be available on the marketplace.

The only way to get the other mythic maps is to buy ODST (they're not downloaded, they're on the 2nd disc of ODST).

The only way to get them is ODST. He doesn't say get them early, he says that's the only way. Also, here are some third party sources confirming the same thing:

Kotaku (in the green part)
Giant Bomb (scroll down until they talk about multiplayer

isnt it a 10 hour campaign

Information on length hasn't really been disclosed. About a year ago, they said the game wouldn't be full price and would have a 3-5 hour campaign. Since then, though, the project has grown more ambitious. Bungie decided to add Firefight mode, and the campaign's length was increased. It started as playing once for every character (Buck, Dutch, Romeo, Mickey, and possibly Dare), but was changed to at least once for each character.
