Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:
“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”
Firefight:
The most target rich environment you can imagine.
Prioritizing these targets is necessary. The order in which you prioritize them will determine how effective you are. Using a plasma pistol to take down a Hunter is not the best use of your time and ammunition.
The way you prioritize enemies can follow this formula, when using a headshot weapon.
TOUGHNESS OF OPPONENT x THREAT OF OPPONENT = HIGHEST TARGETING PRIORITY
So, a Jackal Sniper will be your highest priority.
Why?
Beam Rifle: Massive damage, 0 time to target, 0 warning, unlimited range.
Jackal: 1 headshot to kill, weakest of all targets. No armor or shields.
Beam Rifle + Jackal = High Threat/Low Toughness = Highest targeting priority.
Second in line are Grunt Specialists with Fuel Rod Cannons.
Fuel Rod Cannon: Massive damage, Area of Effect, high Rate of Fire
Grunt: 1 headshot to kill, second weakest of all targets.
And so on.
Here is a rough list for headshot weapons of target preference:
Jackal Sniper
Grunt Fuel Rod
Grunt Needler
Grunt Plasma Pistol
Jackal Shield
Armorless Brutes
Drone Needler
Drone Plasma Pistol
Drone Specialist
Wraith?
Brute w/ Beam Rifle
Brute w/ Fuel Rod Cannon
Brute w/ Brute Shot
Brute w/ Carbine
Brute w/ Spiker or Brute Plasma Rifle
Brute Chieftan w/ Turret
Brute Chieftan w/ Hammer
Hunter w/o Armor
Hunter w/ Armor
For anti-shield weapons (plasma pistols, brute plasma rifles), it is a little different:
POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGE x THREAT OF TARGET = HIGHEST TARGETING PRIORITY
Also, against large groups of grunts and Jackals, having the person on the left kill ones on the left while the player on the right kills ones on the right.
That way, you don't waste ammunition by shooting at the same target.
