Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Edit: Incorrect info is underlined.

From the Firefight Videos on Youtube:

Ammunition Replenishment:

SSMG
Automag
Frag Grenades

All of the above weapons spawn on frame racks like in the Halo 3 mission, "The Crow's Nest".
Each rack has a pair of Frag Grenades, in addition to either a pair of SSMGs or Automags.

*They seem to respawn quickly (along normal Halo 3 weapon respawning rules maybe 10 seconds or so)*, but they can run out, and if you replace your current weapon for one on the Rack, that one on the rack is gone until it respawns.

The Automag has a maximum capacity of 60 rounds, or 5 full magazines.

The SSMG has a maximum capacity of 192 rounds, or 3+(?) magazines.(I don't know where the extra 12 rounds come from)

On at least one of the Firefight maps (Lost Platoon) there are some specific barricades that you should be aware of. They are narrower than the ones you can place in Forge, and only have room for 1 person to fire out of.They are on the Halo 3 level, Crow's Nest.

Their advantage is that they are immovable, indestructable, and block all splash damage from at least a 90 degree front arc while you are inside one. They even have a firing slit. Take advantage of these when attemting to disable enemy Wraiths, as the barricade will provide better protection than most things, and makes you immune to Chopper and Phantom fire.

Is it weird that I thought of your thread when I found out Bungie was putting in a Survival mode in ODST?

Nope, quite a few PMed me when it was announced, congratulating me on getting what I wanted and stating how they wouldn't be surprised if that thread (and all the feedback in it) influenced Bungie's decision.

So no, you wouldn't be the only one ;-)

Only a few more days now!

The SSMG has a magazine capacity of 48 shots. That is why it's maximum ammunition capacity is 192 (48 X 4 = 192)

This video shows that weapons, lives, and vehicles do not respawn until after you kill the last wave of the last set.

This is ANY weapon, even SSMGs and Automags.

I am still not sure about frag grenades. They seem to respawn.

Be sparing with your ammunition, it's not coming back for a while.

And once you run out of ammo, don't be afraid to pick up Covie weapons. There are equivalents to your starting line up, so don't crimp yourself just because it's not "human".

SSMG:
Spiker
Plasma Rifle
Mauler?
Shotgun???
Plasma pistol

Automag:
Carbine

Wraiths can be killed with 1 laser blast. Just one. Line it up exactly along the tank's midline, as if you were drawing a line from your laser, through the driver, and through the gunner. If you hit both with your laser, the Wraith will die.

A casual gamer.

Hey dude, What about the skulls-should't they be mentioned?

  • 09.16.2009 5:59 AM PDT

Don't think anybody has said this yet. Here's which skulls are on in each round. Remember, there are five waves in a round.

Set 1, Round 1 - Tough Luck
1.2 - Tough Luck, Catch
1.3 - Tough Luck, Catch, Black Eye

2.1 - Tilt, Tough Luck
2.2 - Tilt, Tough Luck, Catch
2.3 - Tilt, Tough Luck, Catch, Black Eye

3.1 - Famine, Tilt, Tough Luck
3.2 - Famine, Tilt, Tough Luck, Catch
3.3 - Famine, Tilt, Tough Luck, Catch, Black Eye

4.1 - Mythic, Famine, Tilt, Tough Luck
4.2 - Mythic, Famine, Tilt, Tough Luck, Catch
4.3 - Mythic, Famine, Tilt, Tough Luck, Catch, Black Eye

Notice how by the end of set four (which is the "Endure" achievement) all of the skulls are on.
Not sure what happens in set five though...

O Rly?

Can we confirm both Plasma Rifles and Brute Plasma Rifles?

All I've seen is the Brute version so far.

  • 09.16.2009 11:13 PM PDT

Nomnomnomomnom

played firefight today at a Convention and no i haven't seen a elite plasma rifle.

I'm just gonna shoot out what I learnt from it.

[spoiler]I guess?

There are THREE classes of drones : the normal, a blue one, and a red one. The blue one has better shielding while the red has better sheilds AND a brute plasma rifle.

Engineers are a -blam!- in Firefight, not only do they buff the rest of the covenant they are quite tough as well. On normal, a full SMG clip does not take down it's shields. Most effective way of taking it down is via plasma pistol overcharge + a few shots with any gun. Anyone thinking about not caring about them should note that two engineers are really not something u want in firefight. Take out engineers FIRST ASAP if not good luck to you.

On Legendary take out any waiths FIRST. they are VERY accurate and will klill u even it's splash damage.

Cheiftains in Firefight Sadly are very predictable. Forget about using ur Spatan LAser/firebomb/rockets on any hammer wielding scheiftain if he hasn't used his invincibility. cause he will ALWAYS use it. if he's carrying a Fuel rod den shopot away.

yeap thats it.

Iron is also a skull on this, not sure when it is activated.

Engineers look like they have Halo 2 Legendary Class shielding, so don't waste any bullets on them. Use plasma pistols and rifles to down the shield, and bullets to tear into the Engineer's flesh.

The SSMG has significant recoil when fired on full auto. Use bursts.

The tangible bonuses of Burst Firing are twofold.

1. It saves ammunition. When you fire on full auto, there is a good chance that after your target is dead, you will still be firing rounds into the corpse.

2. Accuracy improves. More of your rounds will land on the target, less will be wasted, and you won't have to waste time reloading as much.
