Bungie doesn't make the competitions or LAN games. They happen here more frequently because we make them happen. If you want more LAN parties and competitions, then you'd better make them yourself.

Competitions and LAN games aren't the problem, contests are, it's always "entries must be from america", most annoying.

the only "contest for america" thing was the thing on Bungie's homepage, that you can win a 3 foot Master Chief, or limited edition warthogs, and I'm sure Bungie had no control over that, as Sunrise 'controls' the Bungie store, not technically bungie.

The only thing I can really fault them for is that blasted North-America biased Bungie store. I want cool stuff! I don't want to pay top €uro for shipping!

As for the rest, us Europeans, Africans, Asians, Orientals and Australasians just need to get our acts together and start hosting more LANs. For my part, the CG-Soc I help run at Southampton University is trying to organise a huge marathon [:D] LAN session of Halo 2 for charity in November, available to however many we can fit. If that gets the green light, I'll submit a news article about it for approval.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Bungie get their bean bag couches hannded to them by the best Japan or Asian clan? Also didn't HAL0 Fr get a shot at them? That proves Bungie dosn't just play Americans even though being in America means that the fanbase is larger here. Face the facts. You are just not 1337 enough to face them in a Humpday Challenge

Keep in mind that the laws governing contests vary from country to country; heck, from state-to-state or province-to-province when you come down to it. Making a world-wide contest beyond some very basic levels (like the Avatar Contest last year) can be a legal nightmare.

Bungie, when it runs them, runs contests in America in part because that's the legal system they know best.

-- Steve thinks that European and Asian game retailers/distributors should get off their hindquarters and start some contests for their loyal fans too... the frustration seems to be building.

It's not like all Bungie contests are US-only. Why, I've even won a little bit of schwag myself.

You also cannot forget who owns the company that made our claim to fame. Microsoft. They are slighly biased about competitions because they are based in Redmond, Washington!
THink about this!

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Maybe the rest of the world is understandable, becuase shipping overseas is exspensive, but I am not allowed to enter the Limited Edition MC or Warthog Compition because I'm Canadian!

I mean, come on, it's the same -blam!- continent.

Note:Filtered myself. After all, -blam!- is a pretty cool swear word.

Franky mabey, Bungie not likely.

As for the US contest only that is because of the standard laws that are currently in the US. Remember NAFTA is not in full effect yet. Also these contest requlations are dictated by official Microsoft Nimrod Lawyers. Take it up with them.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Hmmm Common Sense, where is bungie located? AMERICA!

Anyways it would be inconvient and cost more money to fly to where ver you are and have a lan party. JMO

Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

"Non-Americans" rarely hold LAN parties because it seems only Americans have a ridiculous amount of money to spend on them. But there's plenty of tournmanents over live organised by others. I for one am holding one. The point is, it only seems that this stuff is only held in the U.S because they're the only ones that Bungie can go to really.

Sooo true!
I do spend my time between playing video games and drinking. Aren't I cool. I wouldn't say I'm depraved though

Stuff and bother. Holding a LAN costs very little if it's a BYOBT (bring your own 'box and TV) party... if you're playing Halo, you've already spent 99% of what you need to. The other 1% comes from Ethernet cable and an Ethernet hub. *Maybe* some extension cords, though most households should have at least one spare lying around from Christmas, and you might want to endulge in gaffer tape to reduce the trip hazard.

This assumes that at least one person is willing to act as a host and has 16 chairs and about 70 square meters of available floor space.

-- Steve held one 12-person LAN in his 1-bedroom apartment, even renting an extra pair of TVs to make it easier for guests. It's not that expensive, really.
