I started out with Bungie games on the Mac, was a Mac user for 12 years before I saw the light and dropped it like the curse it is. But that time on the Mac did introduce me to Bungie, and the ability they had at telling an incredible story. Its not about what the game is, or what fancy bits of technology it has, its about the story. And thats something alot of developers don't understand. Bungies ability to bring to life such complex and imaginative stories is something no other development house I can name comes close too.
Now, the buying by MS. To be totally honest I was once a utter MS hater, swore never to use there kit, and all the usual Mac propaganda. But as you mature and see how they aren't as evil as everyone claims, and get hit more and more by the evil from companies like Apple and others which hit the userbase much harder, and you find nothing but support from MS you're views change. I still saw the move as one which would possibly limit Bungie freedom, maybe put to an end what I had come to expect from them. But that was all unfounded thankfully as it seems MS (and rightfully so) have done nothing but support Bungie and let them carry on but with the added resources associated with MS to go forth and produce what they can.
It was a huge shame Halo1 was such a rush to release game, and was nowhere near being complete. Yet it was still good :) And now we face Halo2, a game where Bungie are running when it'll be ready and as such am expecting a release of something as astounding and amazing as the day I got hold of Marathon2 and Myth2. I knew the basics of where I was coming from, but there was just more about to be revealed in a way which I couldnt wait for.
Bungie are a great dev house, and MS is utterly fantastic to work with once you get past the preconceptions (dont have at go about them until you've actually worked with them). Together the 7th Column might just finally take the world :P
