With a map like forgeworld there's nothing stopping any of us trying to create our own "perfect map" :) however the 20v20 side of things would obviously need bungies input...

This idea is a rare gem in the chaos of the Reach forum. This would be the stuff of great custom games between a group of people. Maybe they could have matchmaking, as although I don't see it being too successful, it's nice for them to leave the option there. A few of the elements are over the top, but hardly compared to some of the other ideas from this forum.

There are two technical problems though. I don't think Bungie can just patch in the ability to call in Pelican drops, so either the idea would have to be scrapped, or the function could be regulated by some sort of switch on the map. Also, the lag might be a problem, and I can't see Bungie or Microsoft getting dedicated servers for this, and don't even know if they can be implemented post-release.

If it was technically possible though, or if Bungie said it could be done, I'd be all for it. It also might need some revision and might require some scrapped ideas to make it into the game.

I see your point...but maybe instead of pelican drops, it would just be invasion style, to make up for it, but then again, the invasion style progression was already implemented... the further through the game you go, the more loadouts you get....however it would be really sweet to have pelican drops

I think it's a great idea. I've always wanted halo to bring out a larger multiplayer gametype and this hits it on the head. The only thing I might change is to make the vehicle drop shorter for weaker vehicles, like mongooses 15 seconds and tanks 45, possibly a minute, because if one team has tanks popping up every 30 sec's that might ruin it for the other team.

interesting, although for the drops, they'd come every minute or two, but for tanks, hmm, maybe every two drops...idk

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon from a horde of ferocious army ants. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees and manage time efficiently. I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I bake Thirty Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

Yeah, I think it would bee cool. BUT I know it's never going to happen in a Halo game, in fact if this ever happened in a Halo game, it wouldn't be Halo. I'm sure one day some game will be made that is very similar to this.
Who knows, maybe you'll make it.

mabye not the perfect map thing, with everything, vehicle and weapon wise, but I would love to have 20 on 20 wars on a massive map

agreed, a "perfect map" would be a little too much, depending on the actual size of the map...wait, wow I haven't been thinking as clear as i should've been for this whole thing. At first I imagined it would take place in the Canyon, on Forge World, and the Huge Armory on the Island, but how bout this...

Steps leading from the Canyon up to Alaska/Montana to implement those areas into the gameplay as well, ooh that sounds quite good!but anyway, the steps would have limited cover, just enough so that a sniper would have to be lucky to get the kill.

Then, maybe, we could have a "perfect, map"

I will be making two versions of the Game Map on Forge World. One has the Purple FX for night, and maybe the Orange or nothing for day. After Reach comes out, check the File Share of MagickalMom for the two.

I will as well, but I guarantee mine will be quite different, and probably larger.

but sadly, I screwed up on the shipping, and will be getting it about a week late...but you go ahead haha

Hey a good twist that would be great would be the ability for the covenant to be able to call in scarabs and UNSC to be able to call in Nukes (or a giant mecha master chief) mid battle. Seriously every match would feel like a campaign level. I can imagine me just in the middle of battle, a scarab lands on a person driving a forklift in front of me, and ill be like,"Crap, okay im gonna need 4 dudes to accompany me and drop me off on top of it" EPIC

we haz jetpacks, we won't need 4 dudez lol......but good idea, someone already had an idea for scarabs, but nukes really would be making it too "CoD"

(note: that's wat she said)

Im not sure if this has been said or not, but, I think it would be a good idea to either..
Spawn initially from a HEV pod, then after that have to wait for a pelican to drop you off after..

or

Spawn from a HEV every time unless you have enough points to buy a pelican drop ship for your squad or yourself...

HEV at the beginning only, preferably, to prevent "Drop-killing"....until near the end of the game, when you're assaulting the carriers

Bungie, you really can't ignore this topic, it's gotten over 10,000 posts, and counting... Even though it's not going to be in the game when it first comes out, that doesn't mean it can't be an add-on. Dream big, you could be making tons more money off this if it was an add on...

seriously, they gotta at least say SOMETHING...like what they think or why they haven't payed attention to this, their studio move....load of crap, this thread was made a year ago, they could have easily saw this before they moved studios

It would def. be sweet if they added a forerunner faction to this, so it could be so it could be like 10v10v10

NICE idea!

So you spawn in the cruiser, but instead of going straight down, you go to a weapons shop. With those points you can buy a secondary weapon. Now I bet the thing I just said probably made 50% of the Halo Reach forum's population get mad, but just bare with me. These weapons would be expensive, so even though you got 10 kills, maybe you only have enough points for a Battle Rifle, or Carbine. In order for you to get a sniper, you would have to have way more points. However to keep it fair you can only buy 1 weapon at a time, so you can't go down with a sniper and rockets. Don't worry though, there will still be weapons on the map.

Some additions I have that might be useful:

When you buy your weapon, you should have the choice of buying a "warranty" so that if you die, you can have a reduced price next time (of course it is dependent on how much you want to pay) For example, paying 10 points would save you 50 next time, idk the exact scale that should be used.

Oh and of course, the cruiser thing shouldn't be a "safe zone" unless you put on a time limit, or make it so that the pods drop and respawn at certain intervals, so that if you miss it, you have to wait for the next time. I remember playing a Halo: CE mod that was kind of similar to your idea, I can actually visualize it. PM me if you would like to know more about it.

Other than that, this seems like an INSANE gametype. But the wait should be a lot higher to find a person who's internet can support 40 people >.< or instead, the community can set up their own dedicated servers. That way, if you WANTED, you could possibly pay like 10 ms points or something to go into a lag-free dedicated server/lobby. Like I said, I don't know how it would work out. Also, the rounds should be based on the hosts choice (which should be limited of course, or upon a poll of the players)

1. let me just start with, no ones is going to want to pay every single time they want to play this game

2. on to the other ideas, the warranty, is an interesting idea, like if you die within 5-10 seconds of getting it, you could get it for free or half-price, but if you buy it once, then for the rest of the game it would be 3/4 of the total price.

3. just nvm, I explained how that (cruiser safe-zone) would work somewhere else, too lazy to go look for it

A few revisions that seem more applicable to how the game developed:

The "Weapon Shop/Armory" would be better manifested as Loadouts unlocked by getting a certain number of points in the "Campaign Scoring" Style for each specific person.

The same way new Tiers are unlocked in Invasion would be how new vehicles would be made to spawn and respawn.

Spawning choices were added into the gameplay already, sticking with the model from the beta for Invasion and Invasion Slayer, or the refined model that will be present in the final build of the game, would seem pertinent.

To be honest, modifying an Invasion Gametype for use on Custom-made (HUGE) maps in Forge World (or the huge and empty/flat map, along the lines of the attic-ish area of sandbox minus the lack of floor, that I'm sure is in the mix or works), could make this Idea a reality. The only major thing that wouldn't happen would be the 20 v 20 games. I also understand that stealing a device after deactivating a few barriers isn't the same as getting massive numbers of kills and then blowing their base to kingdom come and that we might not even be able to create our own Invasion Maps due to the seemingly required placement of the "escape-phantom."

In lieu of being able to directly embed a Campaign Scoring Style points system or to be able to further make it applicable to single persons, one could then, in the gametype settings, apply bonuses for sprees, leader kills, assassinations, headshots, etc. This would, in effect, cause Tiers to be earned in a style that would easily reflect the truly wanted system. One thing that would have to change if this were to be implemented would be the number of points needed to win, or, at least, advance Tiers. Remember that the game does not advance via kills, but the points those kills earn (Kills in Reach can be set to be worth, both positive and negative, 1,2,5,10 and 0 points, so can betrayals, suicides and all bonuses). This being said, I would most likely advance the required points from 200-250 to 400-500 (the maximum).

I really do hope that Bungie decides to take this and develop it with their vast toolbox, as it far outshines anything we would be able to do with the tools they have given us, but if they do not, or until they do, I don't think we sholud have to live on air. I thank the original poster and those who provided ideas along the path for inspiration, and will be making note of them in the descriptions of the Custom Content.

I will be developing said gametype and, if possible, maps, starting the day that Reach is released in the early afternoon, Central Time (as if it matters). My GT is The Ardly374, same as my UN here. Message me here on Bungie.net if you would like to be involved or would like to receive notice when something is finished and I will do my best to make that happen.

1. yes, loadouts would be unlocked in tiers just like in invasion

2. agreed

3. again, agreed, but we're still clutching on 20 vs. 20 very tightly, if its ripped away from us, we'll settle for 10 vs. 10

4. agreed again, however 500 kills goes a little far, because since there's different tiers of the game, there's different objectives, but for the overall game, I can see that many kills going down, but probably a little less

5. many of us will be making this gametype, rest assured, but the tricky part is, who's will be the most fair, and appealing to the eye, since they added phasing, we all have the time to use the same tools, thus creater better (looking) maps

Im going to say no...just because it sounds like a really over complex Invasion, also the game could potentially last for so long it would get boring. Just my opinion.

why, isn't that why the objective are changed up, and tiers are added into the game? none of us want it to end up boring

Grrrrr

I suppose the game mode would be great and should be implemented as DLC! =D

I think if they added something like capture the flag/territories which would be bunkers or buildings or just a crater with some barricades and ordnance in it, then that could become a respawn point for the side that captures it.
But to balance it out; the further you push into the enemy territory the cheaper their vehicle-call in's will be and vice versa.

tempting, how about for the losing team, they only have to pay 9/10's of the price, that way its still fair....and yes, we haz an idea to add those gametypes in there :D

Grrrrr

I guess 9/10's is a little TOO helpful haha :P
8/10's is my final offer ;D
And awesome.
