Since its obviously too late to add anything so large to Reach, this could eventually be implimented as as playlist.
(Squad = Group of 5 who play together as a squad. Team = Group of 4 squads that play together.)
Squads
A set of 5, with one Squad Leader, one Second in Command, and 3 other players.
~ If a few people aren't online, people of similar skill could be matched up with your squad.
~ Squad preferences could be set up, such as a default squad leader, and a second if the first isn't online, and the "Team" (group of squads) your squad prefers to play with, as well as whether to play as UNSC or Covenant. (assuming the gametype is UNSC vs Covenant)
~ You could join multiple Squads, and see which ones are online and which one you want to play with after you select the playlist in a menu on the right like the friends list in the Beta.
~ Squad Leaders could be elected, or chosen randomly.
~ Squad Leaders would then choose the Squad Color, which would be the players' Secondary Color, and Squad Emblem, which would be displayed in lobby, and Leader Chat Menu.
Teams
A set of 4 Squads that play as a team against another set of 4 Squads.
~ Once you have a Squad of 5 (either by selecting one you are a member of from a menu, or by being matched with a Squad missing a player), the Squad Leader can select a Team that the Squad has joined, or be matched into a Team missing a Squad.
~ Players would have their Primary Color randomly set to either Red or Blue.
Gameplay
250 kills (to maintain the 12.5 kills/player ratio as in team Slayer), then, depending on the playlist, the game could end, or continue with the opposite Team getting a Flag that they must defend, as well as trying to get enough kills for their own Flag to appear. This would give the losing Team a better chance at catching up, as the winning Team has to retrieve the Flag, as well as return it.
Points
I like the idea of Campaign scoring in matchmaking, and I like the idea of being able to do something with those points.
~ Any vehicle(excluding Spacecraft), weapon, or Armor Ability would be available for sale. The more powerful the weapon/vehicle, the more expensive.
~ You could bring up a menu like the one in Forge to select your purchase.
~ Squad members could pool funds for a big purchase.
Map
Bungie could just create a few "Perefct Maps", as described by OP, on Forge World, using the Forge.
Game Start
~ Players would start in a dropship (Pelican for UNSC, Spirit for Covenant), a seperate dropship for each Squad (Squads could slect Colors and Emblems for their dropship).
~ They would have 30 seconds to select any two weapons that appear in normal Matchmaking (excluding Rockets and Snipers, as well as the Covenant equivalents, if playing for the Covenant) off a rack, then players automatically hop out (like in the Halo 3 level, The Ark) as the dropship swoops low.
~ After the initial spawn, players spawn as normal, near a teammate, with DMR primary, Assault Rifle secondary, or Needle Rifle and Plasma Repeater.
~ At least 2 of every weapon (including weapons that don't normally appear in Matchmaking) would appear on the map.
Waypoints and Weapon/Vehicle Drops
~ Weapons bought would be dropped in a Drop Pod after a 10 second delay.
~ Vehicles bough would be delivered by the Squad Pelican or Squad Spirit.
~ Vehicles would have the Squad Emblem somewhere on them.
~ Vehicles would have mini pictures of themselves (in Team Color tones) as a waypoint seen by the whole Team
~ Items bought would be dropped on the location they were purchased at in drop pods.
~ Squads may have more than one weapon drop at a time, in more than one location, each weapon dropping in a different pod. Multiple weapons bought in the same area would drop in a rough circle (perhaps splattering players not paying attention).
~ Only one vehicle could be delivered at a time, and vehicle purchases made while the Squad Dropship is delivering a vehicle would be delivered after a 40 second delay.
Thats all I can think of right now, I'll add more if I think of more.
Realistically, this is all a mental exercise. Look how long it took Bungie to add simple playlists like SWAT and Team Snipers. I'm guessing this will never happen.
I hope I'm wrong.
nice ideas at the start, and it would be pretty nice to use them, even though I like the "Ender's Game" version, with a commander, toons, and toon leaders, but I can see where some copyright crap would come in, but anyhoo, time to evaluate. If I skip over something, its either becuase I skipped over it, or, because I didn't see any point in touching the subject (can be good, or bad, or neither)
Squads-
No second in command, but an option to boot the leader to a normal squad menmber, and getting a new person assigned, requiring 3 votes to boot the squad leader.
Same for the Commander, but 10-15 people need to veto him before he is booted to the place where the new Commander came from.
No choosing colors or emblems, just Squad A,B,C, and D plus the Commander, each Squad has their own pre-chosen color, and symbol (emblem) sorry, but its just the letter of the Squad
Team-
Nice idea, but again, Color choosing is going too far, most people would rather just play the game than choose their color.
BUT, I do think that if you make a party, and join into this game, your party would automatically be made into one of the squads, instead of being spread around the entire team.
Gameplay (deribed from a previous post, tell me if I missed something)-
First you drop into the game, which is big team slayer (on steroids)....then occasionally its one sided KotH when the pelican drops come in, but the hills disappear as soon as someone claims their own stuff, at least only that section of the drop. then eventually, after a certain amount of points s reached, a team gets a bomb, which blows through the front of the enemy base....where they grab the "Core" kinda ike in Invasion....and once they get it to their own base they then have the codes to get past the lower orbit defense systems
Space battle time, the winning team must get into the enemy base and destroy the enemy's systems (Generator Defense) such as shields, life support, and engines....as the losing team is defending....there is a time limit for each phase...so don't worry, then after the ship enter the "Critical Failure" state, it starts shaking violently, at this point victory is inevitable, and impossible to reverse. The team about to win has to make it out of the ship alive for extra points which in turn will earn them extra credits, not a lot though, don't worry, each team gets a junkload of credits for just playing the whole game
but the winning team must make it out, by the way, everyone now only has one life, so now its the defending teams turn for the offensive, they must kill the rest of the enemy team before they all make it out, if even one makes it out its considered a total victory, so this part is pretty much infection, without real zombies. and thats how the game ends, of course, I have many different scenarios in mind, but this is just one....
perhaps there is more than just the normal three endings? (victory, loss, draw)
Points-
Somehow, I entirely agree
Map-
Forgeworld, mostly using the Canyon, and the Island for something else that I need to find in one of my previous posts, but also an area that leads up to Alaska/Montana to make it less crowded. But yes.
Game Start-
Visit the long paragraph above, as for EVERY weapon, I would exclude the Fuel Rod Gun, due to its reputation of screwing up servers.
Weapon/Vehicle drops-
For your personal weapons/vehicles you would get a waypoint marker, and only you can claim them, but as for squad items, it would be the squads letter, and so on. but for weapons coming in where you ordered them, I would say no, you would open up the map interface, and choose the nearest drop location, there wouldn't be many though.
