I didn't read this whole thread, so I don't know if this has been brought up yet.

What happens when say blue team gets wiped out. Red team moves to the drop pod area and basically spawn camps. The problem is spawning wouldn't be random, it would be in the same spot. So theoretically you could camp the drop area.

A good solution would be getting dropped in creates a 15 ft explosion radius upon landing, and the drop-ee is given invulnerability for about 5 seconds?

i like the idea, and it would be neat that, instead of load-outs, you could pick up your equipment there n the ship, before you drop, then go down when you picked your favorite weapons and ability. just awesome!

Yeah some one would be the commander of a sqaud who can talk to the other sqauds commanders to tell them where the enemy is advancing what areas of the map they have control of. Also, areas on the maps will have buildings these building will act as weapon shops if you have control of it. So the buildings will be like territories, but your team does not score from having control of the buildings. Your team would have to control one territory to call in a mongoose, two territories to call in a warthog, three territories to call in a scorpion, and four territories to call in a air vehicle whether in be a hornet or a falcon. Only the covenant will get covenant vehicles in that order. If you die you spawn with your squad. So yes I think thet would make a great game type. Awsome job for coming up with it.

Think before you post

I think this idea would be even sicker with the Spartans vs. Elites idea, you have a UNSC frigate and a Covenant cruiser circling oppisite ends of the perfect map, (this would eliminate the problem of campers as the ships are always on the move, and the battlefield is always being played from a different angle) hovering 50 ft above the ground. You always respawn in your team's ship. Inside the human frigate, theres drop pods to drop directly below the ship, and a CPU transport pelican that makes troop drops onto the frontlines every 60 seconds. On the covenant cruiser, you've got a grav lift that lowers troops below the cruiser, and a CPU spirit that drops the same as the falcon. But, the dropships only become available at 50 kills, so until you reach that, you have to exclusively use the grav lift/drop pods to get to the ground.

Anytime the spartans call in a vehicle, either a pelican flies out of the rear of the frigate and drops it off (for warthogs and mongeese) Or the frigate lands real quick and drops it off, like on 'The Ark' (for scorpions and new not sucky elephants) Anytime Elites call vehicle drops, a phantom flies outta the cruiser and drops it off (ghosts, revenants, and wraiths) or for the very costly scarab, the cruiser lands and drops it real quick. For weapons drops, the pelican would use those weapon drop pods and phantoms would drop ammo crates.

Banshees and hornets wouldn't be unlocked until 150 kills, and they'd spawn in the hangers of the ships. At 200 kills, in addition to a bomb, the spartans would get a falcon and the elites would get a fully operable phantom, the teams would have to use these to get into the enemy ship. They'd have to transport the bomb carrier into the enemy frigate/cruiser, land in the hanger and then fight through the ship's corridors to a reactor where they'd plant the bomb and blow up that frigate/cruiser, winning the game. Or,(if your falcon/phantom got blown up) you could blow up the enemy ship's engines from the outside of the ship, forcing it to land (like with the scarab),(the engines could be blown up by tanks or heavy weapons) So that it could be boarded by foot, and you could even drive vehicles into the hanger. Also, both the ships could have operable turrets to fight off boarders, or give support to ground troops.

I think this would be a great game layout because it starts with lots of pure infantry-infantry battle, with increased vehicle participation and better weapons as the game goes on, then some intense air combat, followed by heavy boarding/bombing attempts where you have to revert back to infantry-infantry combat within the enemy ship, and then for an immenseley satisfying end, the explosion of the enemy ship

Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
~Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

Since its obviously too late to add anything so large to Reach, this could eventually be implimented as as playlist.
(Squad = Group of 5 who play together as a squad. Team = Group of 4 squads that play together.)

Squads
A set of 5, with one Squad Leader, one Second in Command, and 3 other players.
~ If a few people aren't online, people of similar skill could be matched up with your squad.
~ Squad preferences could be set up, such as a default squad leader, and a second if the first isn't online, and the "Team" (group of squads) your squad prefers to play with, as well as whether to play as UNSC or Covenant. (assuming the gametype is UNSC vs Covenant)
~ You could join multiple Squads, and see which ones are online and which one you want to play with after you select the playlist in a menu on the right like the friends list in the Beta.
~ Squad Leaders could be elected, or chosen randomly.
~ Squad Leaders would then choose the Squad Color, which would be the players' Secondary Color, and Squad Emblem, which would be displayed in lobby, and Leader Chat Menu.

Teams
A set of 4 Squads that play as a team against another set of 4 Squads.
~ Once you have a Squad of 5 (either by selecting one you are a member of from a menu, or by being matched with a Squad missing a player), the Squad Leader can select a Team that the Squad has joined, or be matched into a Team missing a Squad.
~ Players would have their Primary Color randomly set to either Red or Blue.

Gameplay
250 kills (to maintain the 12.5 kills/player ratio as in team Slayer), then, depending on the playlist, the game could end, or continue with the opposite Team getting a Flag that they must defend, as well as trying to get enough kills for their own Flag to appear. This would give the losing Team a better chance at catching up, as the winning Team has to retrieve the Flag, as well as return it.

Points
I like the idea of Campaign scoring in matchmaking, and I like the idea of being able to do something with those points.
~ Any vehicle(excluding Spacecraft), weapon, or Armor Ability would be available for sale. The more powerful the weapon/vehicle, the more expensive.
~ You could bring up a menu like the one in Forge to select your purchase.
~ Squad members could pool funds for a big purchase.

Map
Bungie could just create a few "Perefct Maps", as described by OP, on Forge World, using the Forge.

Game Start
~ Players would start in a dropship (Pelican for UNSC, Spirit for Covenant), a seperate dropship for each Squad (Squads could slect Colors and Emblems for their dropship).
~ They would have 30 seconds to select any two weapons that appear in normal Matchmaking (excluding Rockets and Snipers, as well as the Covenant equivalents, if playing for the Covenant) off a rack, then players automatically hop out (like in the Halo 3 level, The Ark) as the dropship swoops low.
~ After the initial spawn, players spawn as normal, near a teammate, with DMR primary, Assault Rifle secondary, or Needle Rifle and Plasma Repeater.
~ At least 2 of every weapon (including weapons that don't normally appear in Matchmaking) would appear on the map.

Waypoints and Weapon/Vehicle Drops
~ Weapons bought would be dropped in a Drop Pod after a 10 second delay.
~ Vehicles bough would be delivered by the Squad Pelican or Squad Spirit.
~ Vehicles would have the Squad Emblem somewhere on them.
~ Vehicles would have mini pictures of themselves (in Team Color tones) as a waypoint seen by the whole Team
~ Items bought would be dropped on the location they were purchased at in drop pods.
~ Squads may have more than one weapon drop at a time, in more than one location, each weapon dropping in a different pod. Multiple weapons bought in the same area would drop in a rough circle (perhaps splattering players not paying attention).
~ Only one vehicle could be delivered at a time, and vehicle purchases made while the Squad Dropship is delivering a vehicle would be delivered after a 40 second delay.

Thats all I can think of right now, I'll add more if I think of more.
Realistically, this is all a mental exercise. Look how long it took Bungie to add simple playlists like SWAT and Team Snipers. I'm guessing this will never happen.
I hope I'm wrong.

A few revisions that seem more applicable to how the game developed:

The "Weapon Shop/Armory" would be better manifested as Loadouts unlocked by getting a certain number of points in the "Campaign Scoring" Style for each specific person.

The same way new Tiers are unlocked in Invasion would be how new vehicles would be made to spawn and respawn.

Spawning choices were added into the gameplay already, sticking with the model from the beta for Invasion and Invasion Slayer, or the refined model that will be present in the final build of the game, would seem pertinent.

To be honest, modifying an Invasion Gametype for use on Custom-made (HUGE) maps in Forge World (or the huge and empty/flat map, along the lines of the attic-ish area of sandbox minus the lack of floor, that I'm sure is in the mix or works), could make this Idea a reality. The only major thing that wouldn't happen would be the 20 v 20 games. I also understand that stealing a device after deactivating a few barriers isn't the same as getting massive numbers of kills and then blowing their base to kingdom come and that we might not even be able to create our own Invasion Maps due to the seemingly required placement of the "escape-phantom."

In lieu of being able to directly embed a Campaign Scoring Style points system or to be able to further make it applicable to single persons, one could then, in the gametype settings, apply bonuses for sprees, leader kills, assassinations, headshots, etc. This would, in effect, cause Tiers to be earned in a style that would easily reflect the truly wanted system. One thing that would have to change if this were to be implemented would be the number of points needed to win, or, at least, advance Tiers. Remember that the game does not advance via kills, but the points those kills earn (Kills in Reach can be set to be worth, both positive and negative, 1,2,5,10 and 0 points, so can betrayals, suicides and all bonuses). This being said, I would most likely advance the required points from 200-250 to 400-500 (the maximum).

I really do hope that Bungie decides to take this and develop it with their vast toolbox, as it far outshines anything we would be able to do with the tools they have given us, but if they do not, or until they do, I don't think we sholud have to live on air. I thank the original poster and those who provided ideas along the path for inspiration, and will be making note of them in the descriptions of the Custom Content.

I will be developing said gametype and, if possible, maps, starting the day that Reach is released in the early afternoon, Central Time (as if it matters). My GT is The Ardly374, same as my UN here. Message me here on Bungie.net if you would like to be involved or would like to receive notice when something is finished and I will do my best to make that happen.

1. yes, loadouts would be unlocked in tiers just like in invasion

2. agreed

3. again, agreed, but we're still clutching on 20 vs. 20 very tightly, if its ripped away from us, we'll settle for 10 vs. 10

4. agreed again, however 500 kills goes a little far, because since there's different tiers of the game, there's different objectives, but for the overall game, I can see that many kills going down, but probably a little less

5. many of us will be making this gametype, rest assured, but the tricky part is, who's will be the most fair, and appealing to the eye, since they added phasing, we all have the time to use the same tools, thus creater better (looking) maps

Speaking on point #4:

Remember that I didn't say 500 kills, I said 500 points, so with the bonuses for headshots, sprees, multikills, and such, it would go much faster.

Also, I understood that people would be doing this, as it sounds a lot like the already existing conquest gametype adapted to invasion. I'm simply trying to get a multiple person effort in the works, so that there is more than the chance happening of one persons opinion being what works best rather than that of at least a few people.

Everyone just lost (the game). :O

THE VOTES ARE OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!

Wow, I saw no flaming whatsoever in this thread. That's incredibly rare nowadays, especially outside of MLG Cheehwawa's posts. Anyway, I really like this idea. As the OP said, there are many issues with this (personally, I think spending time on a cruiser would break up the much-needed fast-paced action the gameplay would have) It'd be so cool to see something similar to this in Reach because the basic idea is awesome.
Maybe after you drop for the first time from the cruiser, you have the option of spawning from a base located on the map. So red team would get a red base, while blue team would get blue base. So you can spawn on the cruiser if you want weapons, or you could get straight into the action.

I saw a post before but couldn't find it about the score limit, keep it at 200 with 20 players or possibly raise it to about 250 because 200 is only 10 kills per person.

  • 09.12.2010 3:24 AM PDT

Imagine if the cruiser crashes at the end in real game time. that would look awesome :)

nice solution, but it was originally intended (or at least by me) that you would only drop at the beginning of the game, then when you wanted to spawn, you would choose the area you would spawn at, like in invasion, but of course HostileIntent27's idea would work as well, but I think the most fair way to prevent drop-killing would be to only drop at the beginning of the game.

I suggested this idea a while back, though whatever you chose, would become your "Custom" loadout, of course it would also have other default ones, changing through the tiers of the game

Hey guys im Elite X17, if u've seen my stats im sure you'll no i kick butt at all Halo games. -( check out my file-share :)-

Ok, first of all I would like to say that this is a new game mode, not the entire multiplayer experience. It gets it's own special spot on the main menu, along with forge and theater. This game mode would have to have large teams, probably like 20 vs 20, and it would only be possible with dedicated servers, due to lag.

So this is how the game begins. I can't find the thread for it but somebody came up with the idea of spawning in a UNSC cruiser(or a Covenant one) and entering the battlefield with a HEV. I like this idea. So the game starts off with both teams in a UNSC cruiser. You have to find a HEV pod and go down to "The Perfect Map"

"The Perfect Map" is a map, imo, that utilizes everything. That means every weapon, and vehicle. That means that the map must have large open areas for snipers, vehicles ect... but, it must also have tight areas where the shotgun would be the best weapon, and everything in between. It would be a hard map to make but I believe Bungie would be able to pull it off.

When you enter the map you will start off with normal team slayer. The score will be 200. Once you're team scores 200 kills, you will be given a bomb, and you must finish up the game with a game of assault. However you will ONLY be given the bomb if you reach 200 kills. If blue team has 200, but red team only has 150, then the red team won't be given a bomb. Once red team also get 200, the get their own bomb.

Now there has to be a few twists. A big one I think would be adding Campaign scoring. so every time you kill somebody you get points, and you get more points when you get medals. Now obviously these points can be used for bragging rights, but maybe they can do more. Ok lets say you were doing really good, you just got a killing frenzy, but you died. You have a lot of points, because you got 10 kills, and not to mention the medals. So you spawn in the cruiser, but instead of going straight down, you go to a weapons shop. With those points you can buy a secondary weapon. Now I bet the thing I just said probably made 50% of the Halo Reach forum's population get mad, but just bare with me. These weapons would be expensive, so even though you got 10 kills, maybe you only have enough points for a Battle Rifle, or Carbine. In order for you to get a sniper, you would have to have way more points. However to keep it fair you can only buy 1 weapon at a time, so you can't go down with a sniper and rockets. Don't worry though, there will still be weapons on the map.

Now if you have been reading this far and aren't mad at me, you might like what's next. Ever been in the position where you need a vehicle, except you can't find one. Well I think we should be able to call in vehicle drops, from a pelican. You would obviously call in the drops using your points. So lets say I called in a pelican to drop me a mongoose. I would have to hold my position, for 30 seconds, until the pelican comes. If I die, the pelican will come anyway, and drop the vehicle, anybody would be able to take it.

So that is the basic of the mode I am thinking of. Obviously there are problems with this idea, like communicating with a team of 20 but people have said a squad system might work. So yeah, this is my idea, and tell me what you think.

PLEASE READ
Oh and if you want to see everyone's idea's, go to page 8 and go to AbruptArc's post. Also I highly recommend you guys look at Half Demon ANBU's post on page 10. I would post them, but I don't have enough room. Ok, I have gotten a lot of post saying I've copied this idea from Section 8, and I would like to say I didn't. I had no idea what Section 8 was when I made this thread. I just found out about it when someone mentioned it a couple of pages on, and I then googled it. I watched some gameplay videos and all I found similar was dropping from orbit(in Section 8, it's more like the sky). And so I am sorry if this idea isn't "New" enough for you guys. Next time I make a thread about a new idea, I'll make sure no other game has ever done it before.

IT'S TO BLAMING LONG MATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

mmm, touche. but still 500 "points" would go by pretty quickly, you know how easy it is to get 500 points with the scoring bonuses in campaign and firefight, just by yourself? it would be roughly 500 kills spread through the whole game, probably more.

but the points would have to be LARGELY altered if it were to be up to 500 points, thus, kills would be more accurate. it would take a couple minutes of math to figure out the point totals, but for now, we'll stick with kill limits for the first tier.

first off, 50 feet, WAY too close to the ground, try like 50 miles, but still, I'm sticking behind the cruisers in low orbit idea.

second, the lifts/drop pods, EASILY leads to drop-killing, except for when used ONLY at the start, thus, that section, not to be mean, I'm going to ignore

I will comend you on your idea about usind the Ark as an example, BUT (as always), most vehicles would drop using pelicans/phantoms, but for elephants, I'm thinking a different, more "Arky" map, sandy, large, Forge World 2, as for the weapons, as mentioned before, that is how the weapons would drop in

wow, you really sawed this idea didn't you? points, would be used to buy weapons/vehicles, because that, is seemingly the only way to be fair, I'm just skipping over this section, because many of those ideas have already been stated, but you definately just messed it up, not to flame, soon, I'll publish a full version of the game in another thread, and you'll see why many of the ideas stated in your post might not incorporate with this.

  • 09.12.2010 8:31 AM PDT

This is an insanely great idea but the pelican would of had to have been made during the making of the game but bungie might be able to work something out it this "dream" comes true.

I hope I'm wrong.

nice ideas at the start, and it would be pretty nice to use them, even though I like the "Ender's Game" version, with a commander, toons, and toon leaders, but I can see where some copyright crap would come in, but anyhoo, time to evaluate. If I skip over something, its either becuase I skipped over it, or, because I didn't see any point in touching the subject (can be good, or bad, or neither)

Squads-
No second in command, but an option to boot the leader to a normal squad menmber, and getting a new person assigned, requiring 3 votes to boot the squad leader.
Same for the Commander, but 10-15 people need to veto him before he is booted to the place where the new Commander came from.
No choosing colors or emblems, just Squad A,B,C, and D plus the Commander, each Squad has their own pre-chosen color, and symbol (emblem) sorry, but its just the letter of the Squad

Team-
Nice idea, but again, Color choosing is going too far, most people would rather just play the game than choose their color.
BUT, I do think that if you make a party, and join into this game, your party would automatically be made into one of the squads, instead of being spread around the entire team.

Gameplay (deribed from a previous post, tell me if I missed something)-
First you drop into the game, which is big team slayer (on steroids)....then occasionally its one sided KotH when the pelican drops come in, but the hills disappear as soon as someone claims their own stuff, at least only that section of the drop. then eventually, after a certain amount of points s reached, a team gets a bomb, which blows through the front of the enemy base....where they grab the "Core" kinda ike in Invasion....and once they get it to their own base they then have the codes to get past the lower orbit defense systems

Space battle time, the winning team must get into the enemy base and destroy the enemy's systems (Generator Defense) such as shields, life support, and engines....as the losing team is defending....there is a time limit for each phase...so don't worry, then after the ship enter the "Critical Failure" state, it starts shaking violently, at this point victory is inevitable, and impossible to reverse. The team about to win has to make it out of the ship alive for extra points which in turn will earn them extra credits, not a lot though, don't worry, each team gets a junkload of credits for just playing the whole game

but the winning team must make it out, by the way, everyone now only has one life, so now its the defending teams turn for the offensive, they must kill the rest of the enemy team before they all make it out, if even one makes it out its considered a total victory, so this part is pretty much infection, without real zombies. and thats how the game ends, of course, I have many different scenarios in mind, but this is just one....

perhaps there is more than just the normal three endings? (victory, loss, draw)

Points-
Somehow, I entirely agree

Map-
Forgeworld, mostly using the Canyon, and the Island for something else that I need to find in one of my previous posts, but also an area that leads up to Alaska/Montana to make it less crowded. But yes.

Game Start-
Visit the long paragraph above, as for EVERY weapon, I would exclude the Fuel Rod Gun, due to its reputation of screwing up servers.

Weapon/Vehicle drops-
For your personal weapons/vehicles you would get a waypoint marker, and only you can claim them, but as for squad items, it would be the squads letter, and so on. but for weapons coming in where you ordered them, I would say no, you would open up the map interface, and choose the nearest drop location, there wouldn't be many though.

great idea take the weapon buying out though

Couple of ideas, and I'm sorry if these have been stated before:
1. IF you would spawn in the cruiser, and IF the points-unlock-weapon-cache idea was used, perhaps shield doors would work to allow entry?
2. To prevent would-be cruiser campers, after 10/15/whatever minutes, allow both teams to have a bomb, and then all of those campers have to defend their bases.
3. Player-created Bungie-approved maps on Forgeworld, anyone?
4. This would have to have a Spartan vs. Covenant version. Maybe even a versus mode, of sorts, with Grunts and the like.
5. Use points to call in evac, and a Pelican comes in and takes you and up to 4 others away, you would hop in like any other vehicle.
6. Lastly, if HEV insertion were used instead of Pelican hot drops, why not have the ability to drop anywhere?

I think it is a great idea you have my vote.
