why is everyone saying that when you drop in your odst's or marines i mean remember this is a game about the last spartans so i don't get why everyone wants to be bodst's all of a sudden. i mean it would be cool if you could be both but odst's don't have shields so you'd get owned.

and also i think covenant and unsc is a good idea for both the teams but both teams should have access to covenant and human weapons even though that doesn't make much sense

Wow, I really like this idea. And all the posters have some good revisions too. Here are some of my ideas:

Weapon shop fix: Seperate all the weapons into 2 categories- Primary, being (UNSC) BR, pistol, SMG, Shotgun, MA5B (I want the Halo 1 AR back, sound and all) and Special, being Sniper, Rocket, Missile Pod, and introduce a deployable turret. Now to make things interesting, there will be a Primary weapon in each HEV pod. You just pick a pod with the weapon you want and drop. Then you use the point system to call in weapon drops for the secondary weapons, which will drop 2 canisters: the special weapon with full ammo and more ammo for whatever Primary you're carrying. Keep vehicle drops the same, LOVE that idea.

Cruiser Camping fix: I know this is gonna sound Battlefrontish, but hey, we ARE discussing new stuff for Halo, right? Make a hanger bay with Longswords and whatnot in it (Pelican with rocket pods?), Seraphs and whatnot for the Covenant. (BTW, I think it should be Covenant vs. UNSC all the time.) Then you can board the enemy ship and take out campers. But so you can't just say "all your base are belong to us" and stay there, the enemy ship will have automated inner defense. Like in Halo 1, when the Marines got pissed at you.

Spawning: Spawning on the ship is good, and droping in is too. But what if you don't want to drop in? On the first drop of the game, A base is established upon landing. Maybe I'm crazy, but there could also be a Battlefield 1942 like spawn system. No tickets counting down, but this would be more like Land grabbin. So that way this whole thing is like Slayer, cuz you're workin for kills, Assault to win the game, and Territories for spawning. However, the Cruiser is always available. And if there's a base you want for your team, you will be allowed to drop within a certain area around it and try to assault it with teammates.

*sigh* My fingers hurt. Speculate some more everyone




I love what you are saying, but i think it should be like halo 3 multiplayer like spartans vs spartans or you can choose to be an ODST. Like in halo 3 how what kind of armor you are wearing has no impact on gameplay, so as a ODST you have stamina but no base health, so you are pretty much a spartan, an yes you can still hit stuff has hard as a spartan. Also you choose if you want to have like a backpack on your back, or radio, also you can make yourself look like an ODST from Halo 2, Halo 3 , Or ODST. Only on ODST setting you can wear a backpack and really customize your odst.

Practise makes prefect, but nobody's perfect so why practise.

I like the idea of this gametype even though its been done in battlefield 2142 with the Titan mode, but I know that bungie will not implement this gametype with 20 vs 20. They will need to set up dedicated servers instead of using a host based system due to lag issues. But bungie will have to spend MILLIONS OF DOLLARS setting up a dedicated server system to cope with the sheer amount of potential players in this gametype. When halo 3 first came out there was like 2.5 million players playing at once, so bungie would probably need servers capable of about 3 million players or more. Bungie will not want to spend millions of dollars on just a new gametype in Halo Reach, its just not viable for bungie to get dedicated servers just for a single gametype.

Ok, first of all I would like to say that this is a new game mode, not the entire multiplayer experience. It gets it's own special spot on the main menu, along with forge and theater. This game mode would have to have large teams, probably like 20 vs 20, and it would only be possible with dedicated servers, due to lag.

So this is how the game begins. I can't find the thread for it but somebody came up with the idea of spawning in a UNSC cruiser(or a Covenant one) and entering the battlefield with a HEV. I like this idea. So the game starts off with both teams in a UNSC cruiser. You have to find a HEV pod and go down to "The Perfect Map"

"The Perfect Map" is a map, imo, that utilizes everything. That means every weapon, and vehicle. That means that the map must have large open areas for snipers, vehicles ect... but, it must also have tight areas where the shotgun would be the best weapon, and everything in between. It would be a hard map to make but I believe Bungie would be able to pull it off.

When you enter the map you will start off with normal team slayer. The score will be 200. Once you're team scores 200 kills, you will be given a bomb, and you must finish up the game with a game of assault. However you will ONLY be given the bomb if you reach 200 kills. If blue team has 200, but red team only has 150, then the red team won't be given a bomb. Once red team also get 200, the get their own bomb.

Now there has to be a few twists. A big one I think would be adding Campaign scoring. so every time you kill somebody you get points, and you get more points when you get medals. Now obviously these points can be used for bragging rights, but maybe they can do more. Ok lets say you were doing really good, you just got a killing frenzy, but you died. You have a lot of points, because you got 10 kills, and not to mention the medals. So you spawn in the cruiser, but instead of going straight down, you go to a weapons shop. With those points you can buy a secondary weapon. Now I bet the thing I just said probably made 50% of the Halo Reach forum's population get mad, but just bare with me. These weapons would be expensive, so even though you got 10 kills, maybe you only have enough points for a Battle Rifle, or Carbine. In order for you to get a sniper, you would have to have way more points. However to keep it fair you can only buy 1 weapon at a time, so you can't go down with a sniper and rockets. Don't worry though, there will still be weapons on the map.

Now if you have been reading this far and aren't mad at me, you might like what's next. Ever been in the position where you need a vehicle, except you can't find one. Well I think we should be able to call in vehicle drops, from a pelican. You would obviously call in the drops using your points. So lets say I called in a pelican to drop me a mongoose. I would have to hold my position, for 30 seconds, until the pelican comes. If I die, the pelican will come anyway, and drop the vehicle, anybody would be able to take it.

So that is the basic of the mode I am thinking of. Obviously there are problems with this idea, like communicating with a team of 20 but people have said a squad system might work. So yeah, this is my idea, and tell me what you think.

I would post them, but I don't have enough room. Ok, I have gotten a lot of post saying I've copied this idea from Section 8, and I would like to say I didn't. I had no idea what Section 8 was when I made this thread. I just found out about it when someone mentioned it a couple of pages on, and I then googled it. I watched some gameplay videos and all I found similar was dropping from orbit(in Section 8, it's more like the sky). And so I am sorry if this idea isn't "New" enough for you guys. Next time I make a thread about a new idea, I'll make sure no other game has ever done it before
more reasanble. you start at you ship in space. you drop in a HEV or phantom (covie vs UNSC)USNC has a bace at the planet (couse the planet) and they get set for the enamys (other peeps) covie must kill all odsts at the bace and set a becan so thay can glase it. as USNC you play as ODSTs and wen a player gets onufe kills (pike how many) hes has a cance to be a spartan for one life. and for the covies they get a arbater. covie plays as elets. and in space you can bombbard the other team and have bance/longsword battles UNSC wins by killing the enamy ship and defendding thr bace (pike how long) covies win by planting the beacan and booking it back to there ship.

i think its a good idea but i do think the gun shop and u have to have points to buy it dosent sound like halo but the drop off the cars from pelicans thats a good idea i think just i think u should have to have a certain amount of kill for a drop off not points and they should have like squads since it would be a 20v20 like 5 man squads or something

I love it, apart from the part in which you can buy weps. For the drops though, the peli should be destructible, and you could ask for one, if you controlled a certain area of the map.

How does that make sense? Why would a ODST be in a giant Covenant ship and drop down with them? Faiiiil.
(retard i said this because i wanted one side to be marines and the other the covenant. i said this because if you dont get to pick sides i wouldnt want someone to bring over they're odst soldier and drop of a covenant cruiser. First off, OP, well done.

As you stated this would be an additional game play mode. Halo would still have its little skirmish modes for those that enjoy them.

This type of game is meant for the people who need a little more out of their online experience. I for one got bored and left halo 3 multiplayer long ago, only returning because of the release of ODST. The added multiplayer option of firefight, surpases regular multiplayer in my own personal opinion, and will most likely keep me interested alot longer.

So here are my ideas, which could be meshed with the rest of your posters.

My idea, and yes I know it is not an original, and someone else has probably done it in some game, some where.

A persistant universe. Meaning every battle you fight means something on a grander scale. Borders will move with each victory or defeat. Each war is just that a war. I have seen posters say why not 20 on 20, or i think i saw someone post 32 on 32. Why not 40 against the ai or 64 vrs the ai? The computer controlled enemies difficulty rating determined by the overall skill rating of the players. Large scale wars on large scale maps, with long term objectives, and peoples basic blood lust being satisfied.

Each player is dropped with standardized weapons such is the way of things. there are no weapons just lying around, no caches. when you earn enough points, sure you can call in a ammo/weapons/vehicle drop. the pelican bringing them in would be comp controlled, it would be able to be destroyed( not easily), but it would also be armed and supply cover fire for the drop area.

weather a person decides to take 1 minute on the cruiser or more no longer matters. unless it reaches like 5 minutes and they can be booted from the server.

allow join in progress, and allow people to leave without penalizing them. This assures that you know what if you only have 30 minutes to play, you arent leaving folks in the lurch.

it really does not matter what game types are used, you could have the server run different types randomely.

to put things more on a realistic level. Most wars are wars of attrition, meaning there are only soo many troops you are willing or able to field.each player gets so many free respawns, after that they have to purchase respawns with their points. meaning if your not such a good player, you arent wasting your teams resources. The enemy will have a predetermined amount based on the skill of the players currently on the server.after you can no longer afford a respawn you are removed from the server for 1 hour. If the fight still is not over after that 1 hour it would be possible to come back in as reinorcements.

Upgradeable weapons, I know alot will say. " this is halo not cod WaW". few words for you. cod hit the nail on the head for a few things and weapon upgrades was one of them. you want a scope on your pistol..then unlock one, earn it. Something given has no value.

as for flying the pelicans for the ammo/weapon/vehicle drops and what not, could be possible, but that would also be a long delay in geting the drop to the person, especially if you are allready out making another drop. best to leave that in the hands of the ai.

I had more ideas but my mind is a sieve today lol. Basically the main idea is, you have allready satisfied the players that all they need is to be able to shoot other players. they have allready satisfied the zombie killers who want to face wave afte wave of covenant. now we need something that has meaning, that the hours we spend online are not small hollow victories or loses. That the time we spend means something on a larger scale.

This sounds fun. It would definitely take up most of the multiplayer development agenda though, and we would be left without anything else that is new. If Bungie were to use this idea, it would be toned down a lot. Maybe a secret bunker instead of a HEV drophship. Maybe a locked arsenal too. A large map, similar to Relic, Sandtrap/Sandbox. Something that is accomplishable before the end-development definitely has a strong chance of being included. Good imagination too!

Correct me if i am wrong, and I dont mean to nitpick. Spartans were not the main forces of the military. To actually even have one unit anywhere near another would be a extreme rarity would it not? so should it not be a rarity in the game as well, a reward for being a good player.

I don't know if this has been said but in the Halo 3 campaign you can see weapon drop pods that hold weapons. This could take place of the spawning in a cruiser and buying the weapons, instead the weapons would drop in. Also the ability to drive pelicans or Phantoms would also be cool.
You could make some of the maps Covie v UNSC requiring people to choose what they are. Possibly the point system allowing you to unlock certain characters. Everyone would start with the ability to be a marine or grunt.
then could be jackals (sniper or shield) and ODSTs.
The covenant could have the addition of brutes (large health that very slowly regenerates) to make up for the covenants weaker units.
The final group of units would be the Spartans and Elites.
For the map it could be a large ground map with some buildings for snipers and a close quarters underground area attaching the buildings (like a subway).

Good idea, but i dont like the get to 200 then you have a bomb thing. i think you should start with a bomb in you cruiser and have to take up into the enemy ship.

It would be alot like the battlefield 2142 titan gameplay.

i think if you get a certain amount of points or kills, you randomly get to play as a spartan. like in left 4 dead, when you get to play as a tank

oh how i have dreamed of this gametype and "Perfect Map".

Maybe in the near future where ethernet cables have been totally replaced by fibre optics, then this is very possible

oh and not to mention an Xbox 720 or sumfin to be able to send and receive copious amounts of data

On the contrary, as much as a i love the idea, sorry to be your johnny raincloud, but some ideas are brilliant in conception, but fail to be practical.

The element of Halo multiplayer, is its intensity and non-stop, continuous action.

The design of the map must be so that it thrusts players into the thick of action as soon as they respawn. A 20 vs 20 would be too quiet for such a massive map, unless they always fight in the same spot.

Just bear in mind and consider the practicality of certain ideas before you put them in action. Despite that, I still love the idea
