I would prefer droping in a odst pod to being droped off by a pelican

Halo: Reach is about Spartans. Maybe some AI ODSTs, but I don't like the idea of bots.

the vehicle drops and the dropping in yourself would be like Section 8, but I still think it would be a good idea

lucky member no.999 of SAS Halo3

the weapons that you buy should be avalible to you (that way we dont have a bunch of people hiding and when somone unlocks a wepons room we dont have about 50 people running around with rockets)

Ok, first of all I would like to say that this is a new game mode, not the entire multiplayer experience. It gets it's own special spot on the main menu, along with forge and theater. This game mode would have to have large teams, probably like 20 vs 20, and it would only be possible with dedicated servers, due to lag.

So this is how the game begins. I can't find the thread for it but somebody came up with the idea of spawning in a UNSC cruiser(or a Covenant one) and entering the battlefield with a HEV. I like this idea. So the game starts off with both teams in a UNSC cruiser. You have to find a HEV pod and go down to "The Perfect Map"

"The Perfect Map" is a map, imo, that utilizes everything. That means every weapon, and vehicle. That means that the map must have large open areas for snipers, vehicles ect... but, it must also have tight areas where the shotgun would be the best weapon, and everything in between. It would be a hard map to make but I believe Bungie would be able to pull it off.

When you enter the map you will start off with normal team slayer. The score will be 200. Once you're team scores 200 kills, you will be given a bomb, and you must finish up the game with a game of assault. However you will ONLY be given the bomb if you reach 200 kills. If blue team has 200, but red team only has 150, then the red team won't be given a bomb. Once red team also get 200, the get their own bomb.

Now there has to be a few twists. A big one I think would be adding Campaign scoring. so every time you kill somebody you get points, and you get more points when you get medals. Now obviously these points can be used for bragging rights, but maybe they can do more. Ok lets say you were doing really good, you just got a killing frenzy, but you died. You have a lot of points, because you got 10 kills, and not to mention the medals. So you spawn in the cruiser, but instead of going straight down, you go to a weapons shop. With those points you can buy a secondary weapon. Now I bet the thing I just said probably made 50% of the Halo Reach forum's population get mad, but just bare with me. These weapons would be expensive, so even though you got 10 kills, maybe you only have enough points for a Battle Rifle, or Carbine. In order for you to get a sniper, you would have to have way more points. However to keep it fair you can only buy 1 weapon at a time, so you can't go down with a sniper and rockets. Don't worry though, there will still be weapons on the map.

Now if you have been reading this far and aren't mad at me, you might like what's next. Ever been in the position where you need a vehicle, except you can't find one. Well I think we should be able to call in vehicle drops, from a pelican. You would obviously call in the drops using your points. So lets say I called in a pelican to drop me a mongoose. I would have to hold my position, for 30 seconds, until the pelican comes. If I die, the pelican will come anyway, and drop the vehicle, anybody would be able to take it.

So that is the basic of the mode I am thinking of. Obviously there are problems with this idea, like communicating with a team of 20 but people have said a squad system might work. So yeah, this is my idea, and tell me what you think.

PLEASE READ
Oh and if you want to see everyone's idea's, go to page 8 and go to AbruptArc's post. Also I highly recommend you guys look at Half Demon ANBU's post on page 10. I would post them, but I don't have enough room. Ok, I have gotten a lot of post saying I've copied this idea from Section 8, and I would like to say I didn't. I had no idea what Section 8 was when I made this thread. I just found out about it when someone mentioned it a couple of pages on, and I then googled it. I watched some gameplay videos and all I found similar was dropping from orbit(in Section 8, it's more like the sky). And so I am sorry if this idea isn't "New" enough for you guys. Next time I make a thread about a new idea, I'll make sure no other game has ever done it before.

id like this ton but spawning in a cruiser and dropping cinematic style is not practical for gameplay

"Caboose, provide cover fire with that tank !"
"Okai !"
"And don't shoot me this time."
"Okay !"
-Blam-
"Son of a -blam!- !"
"Wait, what was the first part again ?"

I like this idea, here's my idea on it:

Imagine you can choose certain classes based on your rank and skill in that game, or better yet, your Halo 3 rank. You start out as low marine private who drops out of a pelican when you first start, but later when you get good you can drop into the battlefield with a HEV as an ODST, and as like a final class you can get a Spartan who rips up enemies with their badass powers. You also pledge allegiance to the Covenant or the UNSC during your match. You can switch between sides, but there will be a certain penalty for being a turncoat and there is a limit to how many players can be on a team. If a certain player amount falls short (let's say too little covenant players) than CPU's kick into that allegiance (and that CPU's will be tough [legendary, mythic, and thunderstorm] so people won't farm exp or rank or anything like that, this promotes [actually forces] people to making equal teams.

For Covenant you start out as a lowly Grunt, then you can upgrade to a Jackal. Later you can fly in as a Drone or be the massive Hunter. And finally you can become the strong leaders: the Elites and the Brutes.

Of course there would be some limitations and balances. Only one guy on the team can be a Spartan, and that guy can only become a Sparatn halfway into the round with enough kills to unlock the Spartan. The army size of the Covenant would be larger, due to the fact that many on the Covenant team would be mostly Grunts, some jackals, and a few would be Elites or Brutes. When the Covenant hit a lower army size then the UNSC, people can pull out Drones and Hunters into battle. When you choose a class UNSC would kinda be like Frontline: Fuels of War, and Covenant would be kinda like Battlefront.

The weapons from all the Halo games would be brought here and the system would work just like Halo except only certain classes can only wield certain weapons. Like a Drone can only equip plasma pistols and needlers, while the Elites can wield anything, except Brute weapons. The weapon you start with should be customizable like CoD 4 & 5 (as in a regular Drone would start with a plasma pistol every game while an upgraded one can start off with a needler.) The better weapons have to be unlocked through rank or achievements. You can also pick up people's weapons during the round, but you lose your weapon that you were holding and start off with your original weapon if you die.

The all vehicles would be available for use, except pelican, spirit, and phantom of course. And the vehicle system should work like traditional Halo along with regular shooting.

Respawn would be like Halo 3's but consist of lives. Let's say a marine has 5 lives and a grunt has 10. Marines are stronger than grunts, but grunts are more numerous. Elites, Brutes, and Spartans have 2 lives due to their sheer power and strength. Hunters have like 1 life, and drones have like 6. ODST's have 4 and etc. If you run out of lives you have to wait for a dropship (which comes every 2 minutes) to spawn you back into the fight. As stated before after your team has enough kills (or losses) you can be something else at the next drop if you died (let's say you were a grunt and lost all your lives, maybe you can become a drone after the next drop). There should be a kill cap or time cap depending on how the people want to play in a game.

And last but not least, Support Roles. In this idea biofoam injectors in MJOLNIR armor or Opticon health packs won't be available, instead teammates will have to rely on Medics (UNSC only)/Engineers/Deacons for healing, shielding, and buffing (increased attack + defense) respectively. These specialized classes are to be protected at all costs for there are a certain number on a team (like 2 or 3) and once they're gone you have to wait for another dropship after the first to spawn. These supporters are AI controlled due to the fact that most players playing these characters would abuse their powers to win a game.

I dunno my idea seems pretty complicated, and I do like yours better. :P

I don't really agree with the whole "shop" point system thing. However, your idea does contain much potential. Personally I think this new mode of yours should feature :
A.) Point system similar to CoD or Battlefield. You gain points, you level up, etc...
or
B.) Point system similar to CoD. Reach certain number of points, or kills, you get, for example, an airstrike. Anything sorta like that.
or
C.) Keep the system currently in the Halo games.
or D.) Combine a points system with a kill system. (ie. killing frenzies for 10 kills, but points are awarded for Meta-game competition.

Hey I don't know if anyone remembers this game, but its alot of fun. Playbattlefield got shut down a few years ago, but somebody has remade it as Microtanks or Utanks. check it out here.

fun to see how this topic has grown. keep the ideas coming folks

  • 10.13.2009 12:50 AM PDT

I think this is an awesome idea but there are a few things that might be difficult for bungie and other players to deal with.

communication

The epicness(probably not a word)of a fight that big would be awesome but in regular matchmaking people either don't have mics or don't use them for the sake of the game. Several people have put forward the idea of a squad leader which is good but in matchmaking bungie could put different playlists, for example, 16v16, 12v12 and so on because people may want to make a team for better communication. This is just an idea but if there were a certain ammount of people to speak at a time then everyone could talk but otherwise in the squad leader would have to talk to other squad leaders and their squad. If someone was being a -blam- then you could mute them making way for another person.

objectives

With an addition the original idea there could be multiple objectives such as capturing territories whilst capturing a flag or bomb and ctf.

Teams

There could be a choice of teams in some games, for example people could choose to be UNSC or Covenant or change teams for a different side of the map or for whatever reason. I sort of got this idea from GTA IV but it would be slightly more organized with a certain limit on the team so its not 10v5 like in GTA. You could send a team swap invitation to a player in the lobby maybe.

Maps

Since it is about reach and the invasion maps should be based on cities mainly, like odst, but also maybe a covenant map. I think they should be similar to firefight maps but two sided and double or even triple the size. I would also like to see more building based parts of maps. Some close quarters corridors that provide a shortcut and maybe a balcony to snipe. In halo 3 maps there are mainly a few stories but i would like to see maybe 5 storeys instead of the max 3. Also there would need to be some safe spots where you can open up the call reinforcements menu without being killed. These maps would make the combat a little less often when you spawn but way better when you do find someone to pwn.

Weapons

I like the idea of buying weapons but i dont think it should be limited to the ship but also maybe pelicans you can call or drop pods or the original spawns. Some power weapons would need to be limited because when you get enough points to order a vehicle it could be destroyed in an instant, im not saying that there shouldnt be power weapons but they should be limited to buying or drop podding.

Thank you for reading(if you did) and please offer ideas.

On me way for world domination and to become a legend....

Ah, Like Star Wars: Battlefront...

  • 10.14.2009 2:50 PM PDT

Burn in the flame of my passige

good idea but there should be a chooce with what happens maybe like a thing were you can make it to say 500 or 1000 kills and no bomb thing or even a way for machinima makers to use it for huge battle seens, Etc...

  • 10.14.2009 3:37 PM PDT

This is what I always wanted in a Halo or Gears of War, this is probably one of the best ideas anyone on Bungie.Net has ever come up with. Kudos to you.

It'd be so sweet though falling in PODS into the "Perfect" map, like ODST all over again yay.

10/10 idea.

  • 10.14.2009 4:07 PM PDT

i liked most of the ideas, but the weapon store and the pelican drops. the weapon store is too much like counter strike and the pelican drop is too much like the outfit.

I also believe there should be a way to edit the game type, so you can play a big custom match.(Ex. Team flag going into oddball going into KoH.)

This is a good idea,

I love the idea of the HEV Drop Pods when you start off but say you die alot and would countlessly have to go down in a pod, wouldn't it get a'bit to repetitive? The idea of buying weapons while in the ship or opening crates with weapons in it is really good but remember UNSC Ships would only have human weapons and vice-versa but we must remember this is Halo not COD -blam!- Zombies. The idea of the perfect map sounds good and i imagine it somewhat like death island but once again we must remember this is Halo not Battlefield, the idea is great though, Bungie if your reading this you should really consider this idea, its unique and would be a great online experience.
