what ARE J00 doing?

First there is no way this could be included on the disk but it could happen as dlc if bungie likes it and has noticed and accepted it soon enough.
The bases could provide stats in a news like fasion on giant moniters, be able to change armour and tweak controls in "safety". This could be counter acted by the enemy jumping in whatever flying vehicle and assult a possibly unsuspecting base.
Preventing campers? Easy. Just provide the right motivation. I would say keeping lifetime scores, any points left after the game are saved. This would be how to get unlockables i.e. armour and after a certain amount of time, their points start draining Also have dedicated players, say if one player is racking up a lot of 'hog assists, they get dibbs on the 'hog. If some one has a good record of flying, they get dibbs on the pelican ect. This could also apply to squads. If your squad is doing well, you may get a shuttle like the ones in the first halo (sorry for not knowing the name). Also instead of having bases on the ground and unlocking them, your team has a larger version of the elephant but with more features. Another idea related to camping, let's say your an elephant "camper" but you do it because your good at it? get promoted to gaurd on the carrier granting you the ability to camp all you want(to clarify, you wouldn't get this if you just hid, you would actually have to defend or you would be demoted. More people happy.
If I took someone else's idea, I'm sorry, I didn't read every post. I also apolgize for the long post to anybody who bothers to read it. If you hate me, please don't post it, send it to me.

I do believe this guy has started something quite interesting, but IF Bungie does decide to do this, they might end up doing it on Reach..or something..just a guess to me.

But yeah this a truely wonderful idea and sounds VERY fun to play.I hope to see it someday in the matchmaking playlist. :D

I don't think that this is possible on Matchmaking, but hey, who knows?
The best idea I've heard was a separate server for it.

  • 10.21.2009 12:36 PM PDT

I like the idea, but I think I could enhance it a little.

How about make it kinda like Command and Conquer? It would be, like you said, an entirely different option, with dedicated servers. But instead of Spartans Vs Spartan, how about Human Vs Covenant? It has already been said that there will be squad mechanics in Reach. How about where the players are either Spartans (Human) and Elites (Covenant) that have AIs to command. A guy would be voted as commander who would stay at home base (Humans= Secure ONI Bunker, Covenant=Crusier). Every other player would board dropships (automatically) and deploy to the surface of Reach. There, they will 'capture' control points throughout the map. After a point is captured, the commander can call in AIs using a cache of 'money' earned every time a point is captured. They could call ODSTs (human), Pelicans with Warthogs (humans), Banshees (Covenant), or Spirits with Ghosts (Covenant). These are not limited to those: these are included. The commander could then tell them to move where ever he wants them to go. The kill system would only build up money for weapons, not win the game. Its basically a giant game of Territories. After that battle, everyone votes on where to go next.

You don't stand a chance against m-AAAAHHHHHH!!!!

This is one of the greatest ideas in the history of Halo.

I love it so much I'm going to say this to Microsoft:
"Dear Microsoft:

Screw Project Natal, Make Virtual Reality for this s***-crazy gametype on Bungie.net.

Yeah, you know who Bungie is, they're the ones your 343 Industries are taking over from.

So, yeah, stop messing around trying to work out all the bugs with Natal, and maybe implement a less powerful camera along with a VR helmet, some 'COM' equipment (ie microphone and XBL speakers) and some VR gloves.

Sincerely,
DARKRISER 1080"

Okay, not really, but I can just imagine Microsoft scratching their heads, wondering who the hell I think I am. XD

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention MY idea...

How about implementing lesser races, like Grunts and Jackals?
If a player is a General or does really well in the game, then they could gain command of a few AI squads of Marines (UNSC) or Grunts (Covenant).

Seeing as how Reach has squad mechanics (as the guy above me said) I think this would be a great idea, but only if control was given to a high-ranking player.

Like somebody in the single-digit posts said, perhaps this gametype should have its own ranking system? I think that would work out a lot better than having players use their original Matchmaking ranks, since Generals who didn't earn it (I see all these 'I sell 50s!' everywhere...) would have to play all over again to earn their status, just like everybody else.

Whatever. I'm just excited about the Halo: Reach MP beta. I'd imagine that Bungie is scrambling to implement at least SOME of these ideas into the code that is their final Halo game.*

*Note: for those of you who didn't know, Frank O'Conner, the original story writer of Halo: CE/2, left Bungie a while ago and started an inside company called 343 Industries within Microsoft. They will be in charge of all things Halo once Bungie's contract with Microsoft ends. (They bought out of Microsoft a little while after M$ bought them.)

The idea is really good, but I don't see it happening.

  • 10.22.2009 12:43 PM PDT

Hello

Great idea just I don't think that the Xbox cant handle it.

good but drop the weapon buying idea and what if you had a time limit to get off the ship before it blew up thats just my opinion however

this sounds like a whole new different game. i would lower the score of 200 to something smaller.

  • 10.23.2009 7:38 AM PDT

Lurking since 2009

i liked the idea after dedi servers!

  • 10.23.2009 7:59 AM PDT

*Bobfather17*

For some reason when I was reading the OP and the summary posts by others, I thought he said 200 vs 200 lol. Anyway, it should stay simple. Weapons should be distributed in an even percentage to random teammates so that the bad people have fun too. It should just be an ongoing match that people jump in and out of at any time. The gametype could just switch on the fly, so you could be playing slayer and it will change into infection (giant infection match would be epic). Ships are too flashy to be involved in gametypes, they should just be for choosing your spawn.

How about adding some campaign cannon fodder like marines and stuff too? That way bad players can get something accomplished instead of just becoming cannon fodder themselves.

I am a true halo fan. I enjoy all the games and give them a 10 out of 10.

I am making the brand new halo reach machininma
i will put a link for the trailer once i have made it

i would pay $50 for it

AVG

playing as things like grunts jackals, hunter, drones, etc. would not work, imagine someone playing as a grunt, and instantly gettin picked off by headshots, it just woudntwork

And whats the point of communicating with your squad only?
You have an entire whole team, wats the point of making squads if you cant talk to anyone else?

  • 10.23.2009 11:36 PM PDT

AVG

what if they had bots around each base that could be taken over?
Like some squads of covenant (brutes, grunts, etc.) guarding the bases, and maybe flood around the gaurdian zones, like way out there, infesting the outer regions? what do you think?

god this tiny keyboard sucks the biggest balls ever, it took me like 5 minutes to actually end this sentence

  • 10.23.2009 11:42 PM PDT

This would be the coolest gametype ever! Please Bungie

dude thats awsome...if they put that game mode into reach ide actually waste my money pre ordering!

but instead being able to purchase the weapons after you spwn and b4 u drop in the battlefield...u should be forced to UNLOCK
them in an unlockables menu in the multiplayer menu. thats kinda cheap in a way and nothing like a halo type a thing.

Achievement Unlocked: A waste of a human being.

Waste your time on a CoD game and reach a high prestige (10th or 15th).

I think i might have been the one with the basic idea I'm not sure but cred goes to you man this is pretty sweet and I would pay just for that game mode

here

yeah that would be RAD! I hope Bungie put it into halo reach. But I think that the 30 second wait for a vehicle is a bit too much maybe 10-20 seconds would be more reasonable.

  • 10.24.2009 10:02 AM PDT

your idea is almost the same as my dream halo game type but I'd like to make it players could drop weapons and vehicles from either Pelicans and Albatrosses(USNC) or Spirits and Phantoms (Covenant) (I,d still make Drop pods an available option, but not the only way to get down to the ground). Also I'd have the covenant able to chose races such as Elites, Brutes, Drones, Or Jackals or for the USNC you could chose ODSTs or Spartans all of which would have unique advantages & disadvantages.Another change is I'd make the weapon arsenal not as expensive also I,d make you be able to spawn w/ weapons you bought with a currency that would be awarded for getting certain metals or for wining games which your currency would be able to carry over to future games in the mode. Also your team could buy certain advantages like an AI scarab that would drop down and help your team out or a orbital M.A.C blast or maybe were you could trade your kill currency for for things like vehicles for your team, or character upgrades. A squad of ether AI marines or AI Grunts to aid your team ETC. lastly id make the maps more objective Based like controlling Castle Rock or protecting the generator building ETC. This is what I'd change but I'm aware this would take a REALLY dedicated server.

  • 10.24.2009 12:20 PM PDT

This were ever used by Bungie, they probably would use it in whatever Halo game Bungie would make after Reach, or possibly an expansion Game mode like ODST's Firefight because I'm pretty sure that Bungie is fairly far in to the Development to make a drastic change like this. Or the could make it DLC!

yeah i agree with Dragrath about the objective based maps, that would make a big impact on the asaullt game mode at the end.

  • 10.24.2009 1:13 PM PDT

i think your idea is brilliant and bungie should defintly be made.

also their should be diffenrt terrian on differnt parts of the map for example mountains, beaches etc.

the pelicans being called in for vechiles is a brilliant idea but the if you see a pelican you should be able to shoot it down if you have a rocket launcher, spartan laser or missile pod. the pelican should also not be able to land in certain areas or only take certain vechiles. the pelican should aslo take longer to come if you are in differnt terrian like i said earlier like in the mountains it would take longer than on the beach.

brilliant idea
